I'm currently in the giant floating fortress thing, currently as Lightning and Sazh, but I keep going back and forth between parties. Snow just recently joined up with Vanille and Hope, and the zombie l'Cie are everywhere.
You're almost to the actual game, just a little further.

Yeah you get access to the Crystallium after that, plus you get to see some really awesome scenes and just what kind of power the PS3 has in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.

Definitely enjoying the game. It will take a while to get used to the Paradigm Switching, and deciding which people I want to be what.

Nah you will get used to it, I thought that way at first but after a couple of battles I was flying through Paradigms like no ones business. They are super useful. They really stream line the whole party dynamic will allowing you to keep the strategy.

Vanille's voice is kind of annoying. It's like an Australian accent, but sometimes it's not there.

It's supposed to be Australian, you'll find out more later as to why it's like that.
Right now I'm on chapter 11, grinding cp, and leveling weapons.
My guess is that she is a fal'cie in human form.
But if I'm right, don't tell me. I just want it known that that's what I think at 6.5 hours into the game.

It gets good, trust me, i dont want to say anything else! Just keep playing.
They designed the story like this, imo, to make you keep playing to find out what is going on. I love it.

At any point do you start earning gil with your fights? Because I'm kind of tired of not having enough gil because I've only found like 1300 in the floating ball treasure chests.

no, but you get items that sell for a lot (incentive chips, credit chips). Really you don't need to buy items til later (I havent really), but yeah, you'll sell those items for good money.

Ok. I just upgraded my weapons for the first time. I probably leveled up Lightnings sword too much at the expense of the other people, but oh well.

you don't really need money, but if you want to start saving up, sell Credit Chips and Incentive Chips. You can get them from PSICOM npcs, just farm them.

The reveal for Vanille is so obvious I'm going to be really sad when they actually do it. I'm already sadfacing about it. That said, she's one of the very few "cute" RPG chicks that I've actually found to be cute.
Also, when you learn more about Sazh, him having the little chocobo is actually really sweet.

Yeah seriously. But you have to remember that there is always one character that's like that in ever Final Fantasy.

For me, a lot of the fun came from experimenting with paradigms and figuring it out. There's something really rewarding about seeing your strategies pay off.
But on that note, it's really irritating that once you get the option, every time you switch your party you have to set up the paradigms again. Even if you switch back to a party you've used before. Way to put a damper on my experimenting.
Also, I wasn't expecting the gameplay 'twist' on chapter 10 (though I know what's coming in the next one). Every time I think I've figured out the system, it evolves somehow - I love that.

If you're going to have a post that's just spoiler, you should at least put what Chapter it involves. Otherwise... it doesn't really work.
