I'd recommend the Devil May Cry anime. It's no Shakespeare, but damn if it isn't one of the most visceral, over-the-top animes I've ever seen. The writing is cheesy, as well as the cornball voice acting, but most of that shit grows on you (Dante's voice acting taking the cake)

So if your in the mood for pizza (violence), strawberry sundaes (more violence), and high-stakes gambling (Reuben Langdon) then give this show a look.

I watched two episodes of that a while back at a convention and it surprised me with how decent it was. I was fully expecting shit.

Well, it does contain Dante's badass-ness but it is filled with a lot of '... what?'-scenes later on. The start is absolutely awesome though.

I can't believe no one has mentioned CANAAN. Watch it. Its amazing, and fairly short of a series.

It does a very good job of capturing the feel that Black Lagoon had.

Ha, for a moment I read 'CANAAN' as 'CLANNAD', and when I thought you were comparing Clannad with Black Lagoon I was starting to wonder what you were smoking since Black Lagoon and Clannad are about as different as night and day in terms of tone. xD

Still, watch Clannad. It's good shoujo, I heard. :O

Sengoku Basara is a great popcorn anime, the whole thing is just unnecessary fights and retarded jokes from start to finish. It's Feudal Japan but as ridiculously over-the-top as DBZ or Gurren Lagann. And this guy's horse has handlebars and an exhaust pipe.
