So Im actually starting a workout program tommorow called P90X. A buddy of mine in the military has used it for a while and she said it was amazing but brutal. So I was curious as to wether anyone on chubbs works out or is into fitness. I am about 5'7 and weight about 206. I have went from 226 to 206 in about a month and a half from just changeing my diet with no working out.
Anyways I start P90X today and i hope it all works out well.

Yeah. I've started so many regiments over the years, followed them, made them and have always ended up stopping because of sheer lack of motivation. P90x is tough as hell, if you go hard at it. I did it for a week and felt like I was a god. Now mind you, I still have it and it's been 3 weeks since then, but this is different. My birthday passed so I was allowed to take it easy. xD
I'm hoping to start up again though. Possibly today even if I ever get to sleep. The guy is a fuckin' nutjob, seriously. He knows when you start breathing wrong, he knows if you start to stumble a bit. It's like MGS2 all over again. Cool as hell but sometimes creepy.

P90X is tough, but incredibly rewarding. My friend recommends the ab workouts especially.
Since quitting the football team at my university (which provided me with a fitness mechanism for both the season and the off season) I've taken up some MMA training, as well as freestyle wrestling (which is incorporated in my MMA training, but i also take a separate class). I'm also one of those self-motivated folk who only needs an iPod and shoes and can go running daily.
My advice is to just get the ball rolling. Yeah, it will suck at first, and that is why most people can't or don't stick with it. It takes discipline and patience, since results won't be immediate. The most important thing is to find a specific time and interval to do it - choose four days a week and a time that works well for you and stick to it. It is essential to develop a routine. Once you develop a routine (as opposed to just randomly doing it when you have time) it becomes part of your daily schedule, and eventually your daily life, and it is no longer a hassle to get yourself to do it.

P90X requires you to work out 6 days a week. 7 if you're a badass. It's a very routine based regiment. Just wanted to point that out. Everyday isn't the same, some days are just devoted to stretches, while others are weights, a day of plyometrics. My advice is to, like Trafford said, develop a routine so it becomes part of your schedule as each exercise is an hour long, not including the ab ripper x every other day.

I'm a big fan of the Perfect Pushup and own a pair of the discs. While it's not a complete routine it's very close to a full upper body routine. It comes with a workout chart that adheres to the workout today, rest tomorrow schedule.
Edit: Does P90X require any extra equipment?

in the spirit of goku, i'm currently using strap-on ankle weights all day. i bike 3.5 miles to school (7mi. round trip) instead of taking the bus now, always climb stairs instead of elevators, etc. it's getting warmer and i'm wearing shorts now, so i get strange stares sometimes cuz apparently i'm the only one that ever watched dragonball. wuteva. i also take creatine supplements.
i was going to get one of those high-intensity dvd's soon because i'm pretty close to maxing out the gains from my current minimal routine. p90x was high on my list, as well as some bodylastics equipment. (user reviews say it's good quality for the cost)
the thing is that these types of workouts are all about how much you put into it. that's true for everything, but especially true for regimens like what p90x offers. if you really want the kind of results they show in the infomercials then you'd better have a high tolerance for pain.

Creatine can damage your kidneys. Check with your doctor before you take those supplements. Do you use whey protein Rod? Whey is the harmless alternative to creatine. Good for muscle building, metabolism, etc. Ankle weights are a good idea.

a lot of things can damage the kidneys. my face has started to twitch a lot, and i assume it's creatine-related, but i since i don't plan on using it long term i don't care. i dunno about whey, it's techically what the body needs but the stuff you'll find at stores is typically made from dairy waste product. still, i'm going to switch to whey once i get done with this last pound of creatine. nothing is as educational as personal experience.
weights are good, but wearing them all day is pretty dangerous. i started out really low (2.5lbs per leg) just to test them out. i had to learn how to walk all over again, because if you take a wrong step the weight comes down directly on your ankle. this can be minimized by putting the bulk of the weight on the outside, but you still have to be really careful, and i wouldn't recommend jumping jacks, jump rope, or extended periods of running. also, don't wear them without shoes or boots, because you'll want to put the weight down onto your footwear rather than your actual foot.

I'm doing things equipment-free right now, since there's no room for it in this flat. If I stick with it long enough to max out my gains, I'll probably join a gym again, but right now I'm making more than enough progress with just squats, pushups and the like.

bodylastics equipment is designed for minimal space. you hook resistance cords between hand and foot straps, or at worst to a door-mounted anchor, and you're good to go. it's selling both by packaged deals or individual items at good prices, too. i can hardly wait until next month when i'll start ordering my junk.

Well if your really interested in working out. I could hook you up w/ some dieting advice and supplimental incentives.
P90X is an amazing work out... depending on what your trying to do. The key is that it gets you moving for a complete 60 minutes...with small 2 minute breaks inbetween. the average person just doens't get enough 'movement' time throughout the day. SO they lsoe weight simply by their bodies now having to burn energy.
Crossfit is a more advanced version of P90X.
If you wanna save money I can upload my p90x dvd's to an FTP server and you can D/L them from me.
Also not to get too into it... but suppliments can help a lot...but you need to know what to take and what not to take depending on the results you want to get.
Diet is also important... if you are gaining muscle, you need a high fat diet. 100g or more. Almonds are a good source.
Also Protein intake shoudl be 1g-1.5g of protein per lbs of body weight. Carbohydrates should be 1.5-2g per lbs of body weight.
Uuum don't eat any carbs Post work out. Or as your last meal of the day. Eat a big carb/ fiber meal in the morning...and high carb about an hour pre work out... Protein with each meal.
Sorry got more into it than I intended. Anyone who is interested... IF you PM me your current weight, goal weight, body type your going for... and what your work schedule is like. I'd be willgin to help you devise a simple work out regiment and diet to meet your goal.

I finally got back into the weight room recently. I'm trying to alternate days of weights and cardio, doing abs every time. I buy protein powder from bodybuilding.com, the optimum nutrition 100% whey is nice, the flavors don't taste like shit and it's not too expensive on that site.

I'm sorry but this is just wrong.
Creatine whether it be CE (Creatine Ethyl Ester) Or MH (Mono Hydrate)
Doe snot in any way harm your kidneys. Creatine is a Natural occuring substance in your body. Creatine suppliments simply produce MORE to suppliment your body's natural supply.
Whey is not an alternative to Creatine. Creatine and Protein are two completely different substances. Whey IS a good sourc eof Protein. Without getting too technical..Protein is used to build up muscle by filling in the torn elements... while Creatine seals over the Newly formed muscle and helps recovery.
Protein does not affect your metabolism in anyway. Other than AS you gain more Muscle mass from increasing protein intake... your body's metabolism will rise because Muscle requires more energy to operate.
Sorry but that post was just way wrong. Creatine is god's gift to people who go to the Gym. Also a good Protein should be in every Gym Rat's stack.
I myself use the BSN stack and Use NOXplode and Cellmass as my Creatine CE suppliment and take Syntha 6 as my Protein suppliment.

One piece of advice I have is that if you're trying to improve your diet, get into some food discussion forums or just start reading recipes and new stuff you can learn to make. If you become a good cook then you will save money, enjoy better and more varied food, and probably get healthier if you currently eat a lot of fast food.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but whey protein is absorbed quicker, making it great for use right before, after or during a work out. Creatine takes longer to be absorbed and so for example it's great for use before sleeping, so your body has something to fuel recovery during that time.

Kami my old friend... fail. lol j/k
Forget the whole 'whey' thing. Whey is juts a type of Protein. EVRYONE needs Protein to gain muscle. FACT. Whey is a type of protein that is regarded as the best because it doens't focus on taste is is very quickly absorbed by your system.
Protein should be taken at EVERY meal. Protein should eb taken RIGHT after a work out because your muscles are starving for nurishment. The protein is absorbed very fast.
creatine shoudl be taken BEFORE your work out. That way your muscles are ebign fueled with Excess creatine AS you work out. Takeing it before you go to sleep... is a waste. In fact you will GAIN wait. Especially if you take a MonoHydrate.
Some post work otu recovery powders have small amounts of Creatine CE in them... for example Cellmass like I take. But it's meant to be taken immidiatly following your work out. Not before you go to sleep.
The only thing you should take before you go to sleep is a testosterone enhancement like Novadex. Other than that... Sleep is when your body recovers the most.
Also I forgot to mention ...don't take protein DURING a work out. Take it before or after...or both. Depending how many meals you have and what number of Grams your trying to get to at the end of your day.

CREATINE: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions and Warnings
Creatine makes your muscles hold more water (Maybe there's something in that for stamina). For some people this is something they want. Whey protein increases strength and muscle gain per workout. There are many potential benefits to Creatine, and also the great unknown for long term studies on the side effects. What is known are interactions with certain medications that harm the kidneys, including Ibuprofen.
Check out the pages, especially the later link including side effects.
P.S. Love the food and exercise advice Kaasel. Protein at every meal is a big ol' bucket of win.
P.P.S. Alcohol is bad for your fitness routine.

Yes, but you try jogging 3 miles weighing 280lbs and see if you don't want to chug beers after you get back.
