The world itself and the out of combat gameplay is certainly more shallow, but those were never Final Fantasy's selling points. If it means anything I really disliked 12 but I'm enjoying this one thoroughly.
Speaking of Fallout, I just caught the New Vegas trailer

When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

Yeah, it looks so awesome from what I've read. Dehydration system, ammo having weight, and a improved Vats system. It's not just a rpg, it's a survival rpg.

See i liked FF13, and i disliked games like oblivion because they were too open. I like something that keeps me on a path, im a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to games and if i dont get everything i'll never finish the game.

I think linearity gets a really bad rap. People talk about open-worldness like it's always a good thing, but it's like watching a movie vs. playing a game. They're both enjoyable but in different ways. You've just gotta take FFXIII for what it is instead of wanting it to be past Final Fantasies.

Uh, I don't get your comparison there Greg. Are you saying that Final Fantasy is the movie or the open world is? I'm guessing Final Fantasy, but I'm sure.
For all you console persons out there, I personally like the new trailer for Red Dead Redemption (might be old as fuck) that combine both linear gameplay and open world gameplay (THE FUCK I SAY?).

I just meant that open worldness always gets talked about like it's an advantage over a linear game, when actually they're just two different types of experiences (like movies and games).
^Also I am watching that trailer and want to know why this is the first I've heard of it.

FFXIII's world definitely has the same depth to it as the other games. The difference is that you're not forced into it. Most of it is done through the Datalog instead of being explained in cutscenes. There's tons of background and history and legend/myth/stuff that you could just completely skip over.

So yesterday a rock hit my windshield from a truck carrying turf. Wasn't bad. Created a white chip. FML
Same day I fixed my subwoofer to completely ignore anything but bass frequencies.
I...uh...broke my CD player...again. It was shaking the car and suddenly the CD just...stops and jams.

I recently did that. My love for someone evolved and twisted into a discovery that I despise this person.

I hate research papers.
I like having only 9 or 10 pages left to write for said research papers -_-

Mostly this. I was initially pretty lost on the setting/background and was beginning to get slightly irritated. I found that after a while it all just starts to click though. As one of those people who doesn't trust a fantasy setting unless it has a novel's worth of explanation, the Datalog was a perfect addition to this.
To sum up: I like Final Fantasy XIII.

I am so stoked.
Not... not that I'm a big Fallout fan or anything.
Nah...

I only just heard about it, but I'm excited. Fallout 3 was a really flawed gem IMO, it had a lot of greatness but it could've been so much better, and it sounds like they've looked at everything that was criticised about it.

I hope they have a similar but expanded soundtrack. for me at least, those songs really kind of set the atmosphere for me.

The ending I got in Fallout 3 made me cry.
