Little. Big. Antique. Modern.

These words were simple, yet opposite, contrary terms to one another. Amongst a crowded city, a little man – if he could even truly be called a “man” – wandered the streets, navigating his way through the maze of glass and concrete underneath a cloudless night sky. Had he topped his grand of height of four feet, more people might have picked him out from the monotony of nocturnal traffic. A ragged blue cloak shielded his strange garb from view, the stiff collar rising well past his chin. Intense green eyes flicked this way and that from beneath the brim of his steeple-crowned hat, gazing through a disarrayed curtain of dirty blond bangs. All served to conceal the odd shade of gray that pigmented his skin. Those that held their stares in check could easily dismiss him as a minor oddity in their homogenous society, some little person with too big of an obsession for video games or the fantasy genre, or perhaps a themed actor of some sort. Maybe some of them wondered if he was not a grown thing at all, but merely a child, an unaccompanied minor, and simply not their problem. The rest rudely gawked at him until their paths no longer crossed.

He was a little man in a big city, an antique in a modern age.

He ignored the rest of the world, for the most part; he had much bigger things to worry about… like correctly crossing a street. The cars around him were large and quick, whilst he was small, and nervous. He stopped at the curb in front of a particularly long crosswalk, stretching several lanes going both directions. The little man waited patiently, ostensibly looking for a proper gap between motor vehicles to dash across. When the opportunity presented itself, he sucked in a deep breath, and bolted from the curb, his ragged cape flapping behind.

Unfortunately, he misjudged his timing, and a cherry-red sports car raced down the street. The little man heard before he saw, and his head snapped sharply across his left shoulder, wide eyes staring directly into a pair of aftermarket headlights. He froze, his tiny body seized by panic as the car tried to slam on the brakes far too late and filled the air with the sound of screeching rubber.

This was only the beginning of the problems for Zypher Golem.

Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.
