Scouter - Ki sense

Can we purchase a scouter yet roleplay as if we can just sense energy? I'm having trouble with the idea of having Carter using technology for it. Let me know.

I guess what Orion is trying to say is that if your character isn't "born" with the ability to sense Ki, he or she preety much has no choice but to rely on technology to compensate for that shortcoming. Sort of like how people have to use aircraft to compensate for their inability to fly or use a diving tank to compensate for their inability to breath underwater. So if Carter can't sense Ki naturally, then technology is the only way for him to be able to do so.

Besides, if your character is so not used to the idea of using technology, then that could be additional writing material for you. You could have Carter begrudgingly buy a Scouter, look at it and say "What is this silly gadget? I don't even..." The conflict between man and machine, between the natural and the artificial, is always an interesting point to cover.

Eh, I want to do an awarness type of feel with him... Really I made a mistake in my abilities and am regretting it now... I'm thinking about 3 fixes though...

1) Spending 75xp to switch Inner Strength with Ki Sense
2) Going Dragonball hunting (However, that will take entirely too long for the fix I need
3) Lastly, using a scouter, perhaps a contact lense... I see people using phones that might be ok...

I'm sorry, but that sounds almost exactly like what you wanted to do before, only slightly reflavored. :| Eh.

Unless an admin goes over my head, I don't think we'd allow that.

Honestly, I think your idea of making it like a cell phone would be the best option. As far as I know, the rules permit that an item can take any shape as long as it doesn't do anything that an otherwise purchasable item that you don't own could do (for example, you can't have your Scouter double as a Dragon Ball detector, since there is clearly an item for that, namely the Dragon Radar).

That said, the only problem with making it a cell phone is if you don't plan on getting the Q-Wave communications device. Beacuse then it would be a phone that can't actually function as a phone. I guess in that case, you could describe it as a gimmicky phone that doesn't do the phone part very well....either that or you could describe it as some sort of touch pad.

Even if you injected it, the result would be modified eyes. You wouldn't sense Ki like members who have Sense Ki, your eyes would simply be able to pick up Ki Signatures and then point to the direction of where it's coming from.
