I have plans for a weapon made of energy, but I'm stuck with what method to use. I could either buy a sync weapon or create a technique for it. So what I need to know is which will be more effective? I'm swaying to the side of creating a custom tech for it, because it will be an extension of Carter's energy.
So could someone just kinda weigh out the options for me? What would be the differences between these two avenues?

as far as I get it, you'd have to spend a lot of XP to get the same strength as a sych weapon. Then again, it's mostly fluff anywho.

Can I jump on this question and expand - can we do this? Can we sacrifice XP to make it stronger than something else?
Like say if someone creates a Kamehameha wave technique, can they just smack on another title and ask it to be 50 xp stronger than the standard one?

Well, I mean, that's kinda what the kamehameha is in the first place. "Ki Control" is what it'd be tacking on to. This is also expounded by the use of PP.
You can have energy blast 1 that costs 5 exp, energy blast 2 that costs 10 exp, and then energy blasts 3 which cost 5 exp and 1 pp and energy blast 4 which costs 10 exp and 1 pp. Each is a progressional step above the previous, even though they all basically do the same thing, you have to sacrifice more to go up every tier, and thus one is progressionally stronger than the other.
OR, you could have the Energy blast 3 do the same amount of damage as energy blast 2, but be less expensive in the EXP department because every time you'd use it you'd be using a PP.
Kinda complicated.
You could go on an on with more EXP and more PP, but you get the point.
That is all as I understand it though. The inclusion of things that cost money as opposed to EXP to purchase, you instead use yo cash monies so that you can use your EXP for other things. It allows you to juggle and balance your character by trying to figure out what you can do with each component and working with the admins.

The more Xp a technique cost, generally, the more powerful it is. So, if you spend more Xp towards a technique, the more powerful it will be. So I see no reason why you couldn't 'upgrade' a technique to make it more powerful by spending more xp on it.

No, generally speaking custom tech's are just flavor and an XP dump.
