One of the things we've been split on, as a community, is where or not we want a number -- referred to as Power-Level -- to have any influence on the outcome of a direct PvP encounter. There are pros and cons to each side of the debate, though I imagine most of you already have your opinion on it.
Determinations based purely on writing quality are completely subjective, there's no way around that. Numbers, however, are not. The problem with using numbers is that it forces the judge to try and quantify something abstract in order to carry out a comparison. There's no way around that.
What we need to decide is whether or not we want numbers to be a factor, to any degree. So here's a poll.

I wish there was a choice for it to have "some influence," but not all.
I want fights to be based on writing. But I want fights to be based on power level. For example, I think that if someone writes outstandingly, but the other person overpowers them completely power level wise, then they shouldn't lose everything, or die - in a life or death match, for instance, they might survive with their hide, or in a Dragonball match, they might find a free clue to another Dragonball if they'd just lost one.
Am I making sense?
EDIT: I might've misread the question. My answer is "yes, I want power level to be a factor (heavily italicized) in fights."

I'm fairly certain this will be a nearly unanimous 'Yes' vote, the only problem is we still need to bicker how much of a factor it will play.

Sorry if that wasn't the case.
Power Levels won't be the only determining factor. That would be... beyond ridiculous. This is a writing site, so writing will always play a part.
One of the problems with using writing is that it is completely subjective. As I said before, it doesn't matter what your opinion of writing quality is, 1000 is always more than 500.

My answer's 'yes', but to elaborate: If someone's a clear-cut winner in a fight purely from their writing, I don't think power level should make any difference, no matter how big the gap. But in less clear-cut fights, I think it should tip the scales, and work as a tiebreaker where necessary. That's my personal happy medium.

Yes, it should matter to some extent.

Does honesty earn respect or inspire revenge? Is it smarter to attack the strong or annihilate the weak?

I think it should be one of the factors in a fight, but I also think that someone with a power level of 500 against someone with a power level of 10,000 should always lose. Unless the person with 10,000 doesn't roleplay at all, or completely fudges it with a ridiculously shitty roleplay.

Pffft.
I'm not gonna quote anyone.
I'm gonna do what I usually do and pull the "What I know" out my ass.
The 'Power Level' should be a factor. But as well, both writers should show respect to it.
I am, or was known as giving myself techs that would help give me and even my opponent more opportunities to write. When I first started, Power Level mattered. But so did the writer.
I dont think it should or ever will change.
I don't go into a fight thinking about my power level. I go into a fight, thinking, I will show myself as a writer that I can beat or at least hang with this person...
My power level can be a bonus, if I know how to use it. Alot of my stuff helps with my storyline... but don't think I dont think about a fight. I know that the further along my character is the stronger he is in Power level and I am as well.
At the same time... I could just raggedly write in quantity and surpass our top players, but in the end in a fight or in a saga... even with power level, if I sucked, I'd suck.
In the end Yes Power Level should be apart of things.... Its just a matter of who's the most creative and whos's the better writer usually in the end...
And for the record...I didn't Bring up the A16 vs GJ and Mino this time... But I can... But then again.. I tend to like how Rad/Kaden had things before about the PL/ writing thing....

I agree with Josh.

I agree with both.
The reason being that, though there are some writers who are greater and some here who are lesser, the disparity does not appear to be great enough to overwrite a clear PL difference of 500 versus 10000.
I believe that, in principle, any fight should be winnable through sheer writing prowess. I also believe that there is a point at which the sort of writing prowess necessary just won't happen. At what point that is exactly, I'm not sure.
It's worth pointing out that the better writers tend to have higher PL anyway.

That's basically why I advocate a system that closes the power gap so there are no 500 v 10,000 PL fights, that way it's always plausible IC for the weaker person to win.

HF17 vs Retane... THink I got told it was real close...
IN a certain DA I was told I was close against another...
In a fight... If you are stupid enough to get in a fight with someone that its impossible to beat....
Then it is your own fault. You could write so damned good and actually live, and it actually be as good as a win.
IN sagas though ... it doesnt always come into play... but a dumbass that god mods deserves to get fucked

I honestly think that the CURRENT system that deals with PL is reasonable, which is the same one I think everyone here is pretty much voguing for. It's a system that counts on PL to determine the strength and ability of the fighters, but doesn't 100% claim the rights to the winner of the battle. Gaps of up to 1000 or maybe a little more (in the current CA system) are reasonable if the writing is significantly better on one side.
I think one thing that we should do however, is go back to a traditional Power Level so we can use direct comparison.

...
Psh they can keep their Power level... Be it Kaden, Reb.... Sage... or HF17....
I can beat them =)
And if thats not your plans and you think that the CA/PL/whatever... is the issue,,, I can assure you that it isnt...
If you can beat someone with a power up... you can do it without... =P Just takes work...
Edit: I still have yet to see someone say a reasn for the "No" answer...
