I hate professors who require their students to address them as 'Doctor'. Mofo if you're a doctor where's your god damn stethoscope? Your lil white lab coat bitch? HUH? Fuck you. You're 'Mrs.' to me. I'm paying your shitty ass to teach me, not to require me to call you a god damn doctor.

Like finding a computer repair shop that may be able to retrieve some files from my old desktop hard drive. Fingers crossed I can get my dbzkibot off there.

You don't need to be a doctor of medicine to have a doctorate degree or be called a doctor. I mean, look at Indiana Jones. That dude don't look like no doctor, but he's Dr. Motherfuckin' Jones, and he has a doctorate archeology and a minor in kickin' nazi ass.

And honestly I wouldn't have minded if she asked nicely...but demanding students call you doctor when they can very well drop your class and go to the next instructor is quite foolish. Especially when the UNC schools have been cutting budgets left and right. Her attitude about being called anything but Doctor is going to be the reason I call her 'Miss/Mrs' all semester and if she has a problem she can suck a sausage.

You also make it sound like the professor would give a shit if a student switched to a class taught by someone else. If you're bothered by it, you should do just that; just don't make it sound like it'll make a difference to her, because it won't.

That's like saying that graduating high school is just a point of pride. Fact of the matter is that there are benchmarks that people need to meet if they want to be taken seriously in a given field. It doesn't matter whether or not you care about having a couple of letters in front of your name, but your "peers" will.

Hate: This recurring pain that occurs from sitting. In class I'll get up from a lecture and getting up will be near staggering pain, but as soon as I right myself and start walking it's like I never had surgery. Thank god I go to the doctor this week.

I won't be disrespecting her by calling her miss...if she wants to spend time correcting me I won't mind but theres a 99.99% chance that I'll keep calling her miss.

I get wanting respect for hard work, a title isn't going to grant her immortality among the gods of Valhalla or make her any cuter or slimmer. And frankly out of habit and manners I always call my professors Miss or Mister. 'Yeah I make it a point to tell my students to call me doctor because damn it that's what I fucking am!'. I spent ten years of my life collecting pokemon, getting badges and whooping gym leaders asses. I wanna be called Master!

My silly rant is over.

Doctorates involve intense work, research, and require (in most cases) the production of significant, original work. People spend full years working on this thing, and when it's all said and done, it's submitted to a panel of people with more experience and knowledge in the area than you, whose sole purpose/interest is to rip it to shreds as much as is humanly possible. Persons who were friendly and supportive for years will lead an assault not only on the paper, putting extreme pressure at every kink and joint, but also on your legitimacy as a researcher, as an intellectual.

It's ridiculous.

That said, that's primarily for strong universities. If the standard of universities is lowered, just about anyone can get a Ph.D. Which is why the reputation/name of the university is so significant (even though it might seem, and perhaps with some justification, to be nothing more than tradition rather than legitimate strength).

Some persons fucking earned their Ph.D, and they are badasses.

Some persons did some work and got a Ph.D. They are not.

I've never given any college professors a reason to hate me. I've had three bad experiences with them, but still enjoyed myself.

And yeah the chick came off as a walking talking asshole, I was surprised shit didn't fly from her mouth. If she was polite and said 'I have a preference to be called Doctor instead of Professor or Miss.' I would have made the effort. But saying 'I won't answer to you if you don't call me Doctor Chokesondik.' is just as douchey as they come.

Love that it was easy to get the snow and ice off my sisters car...but for some reason I caught hell.

Like: Being GIVEN a fucking PAINTING of a hot, gun-toting Milla Jovovich out of the blue by someone I barely know and haven't seen in weeks. Based on a half-joking (I didn't want to impose) request for a sketch I made months ago after seeing some of his portraits. That's definitely up there on my "good surprises" list.
