Thoughts About Earth
#1
Since I'm such a sucker for a consistent universe, I was wondering how everybody else has RP'd the politics/cultures of earth.

I know it's set up with city-states and whatnot. Just seein' if anybody wanted to share anything specific from their roleplaying - a socialist city-state, a highly religious region, whatever.

Y'know. Fodder and stuff.

I play Earth as a largely-undeveloped landscape. There are extreme concentrations of technology in the cities - flying cars and shit like that - right next to dinosaur infested forests. Basically how it was in the show, with throwback low-tech out in the farmlands (cars with WHEELS omg), sprinkled with fantastical shit (like the Maiden's Dream, which is functionally a WoW zeppelin).

The people of earth are largely decent, though many are wary of aliens because, well, Earth gets attacked for the sake of a PvE saga about once a year. Some cities have formed specialized attack forces and weapons to take down superhuman warriors. Central City in particular has invented a way to cage them with a force-field that turns kinetic energy against itself, and sooped-up tranqs that can take out even the hardiest warrior - if he's hit with enough.

Meridian City exists today as an anomaly. Wiped out by the Construct's actions on Earth, it was wished back into existence about a year ago - with all its people intact and alive. Many "survivors", however, have since relocated - either to get away from the memory by moving to other cities, or to find solace in the countryside, where attacks from spacemen are less likely.

I generally think of it as America.

Just in general. I've never bothered with thoughts on it as a centralized government or anything.

I wrote South City being ruled by one man, the mayor. He almost had an evil organization feel. He was the one who shipped Trixie to Frost. Central City was ruled the same way. At least to me.

Oh, right.

And Coast City.

Notable residents: Master Long, Sayana, Edward Cognivius (aka "Cog"). Tourist trap. Flashy central area and long stretches of beach snuggled between jungle-like forests on its sides and a mountain range behind it.

Local resident Cognivius gives aerial tours of the jungle and mountains with his flying contraption the Maiden's Dream. Used because his tour takes him close to the sulfur-surrounded, constantly smoking Dragon Mountain.

Dragon Mountain is, as it turns out, aptly named. A skeletal-like rock dragon makes its nest there with a hoard of riches. Although once thought to covet gold, in an encounter with the beast, Belle and Sayana discovered that gold is a food that the creature's young find appetizing.

The dragon is currently alive and well - though missing the front foot that Belle destroyed in their battle. It is peaceful, provided no one trespasses into its territory - the smoky, rocky caldera in which it makes its home.

I RP earth as each city being a continent in the sense that each city has its many countries (existing countries)

Does honesty earn respect or inspire revenge? Is it smarter to attack the strong or annihilate the weak?

Pretty much that.

I RPed it as the map looks, as far as geographical things go. In my story, there weren't hover cars (I didn't really RP much as far as that goes), but there is a lot of more technology than modern day in regards to what Victoria does (holo-training rooms, space ships).

I picture it mostly like our world but with all sorts of nasty monsters and beasts lurking outside of the cities.

I've pretty much only roleplayed West City, and in doing so I tried to develop a more realistic version of the city. Dreams and Doorways pretty much described, though not so directly and obviously, three different 'cities' within West City. There was a major corporation, which was tied to the government. There was the dingy, downtrodden urban area where Alexander lived (drugs, hookers, bars, alcohol, crime, deviance). There was the rich, socialite, suburbia from which he hailed (briefly mentioned, Trafford Estate). I kind of tried to think of West City as not being uniform, but having different areas and neighborhoods with different personalities.

So, West City

Corporate/Financial District: Close to Government buildings, sky scrapers, apartment complexes.
Urban not-so-nice areas: Dingy apartment buildings, project housings, subway stops, street vendors, crime, alcohol, drugs
Suburbia: Rich people involved with Corporate/Financial/Government/Military affairs.

I RP Central City like Chicago/NYC with a mayor. That's bout all I can say.

Gozen had a lot of spirits that roamed the earth alone, lookin for their path to the afterworld. He also pushed the ones that escaped hell and heaven back to their places.

That's probably the closest to the model I use, although I tend to write FTL space ships and 'future tech' like that as being 'wtf awesome.'

And I've never really had any storyline take place outside a city, so I can't comment on how I picture the flora and fauna.

I RP'd Earth as a hierarchal system of dictatorship on the municipal scale. I do often write about the connections between all the major cities, even though Zhu Zhi is mainly active in East City. I don't have any real information for Earth, except for the underworld. So if you guys ever write about gangsters and mobs, I would like for that to be tied into my view of Earth's underworld activities.

East City Mafia - Powerful underground function that is extremely powerful in East City and has severe ties within the government and other mobs residing in Earth and other planets. Their influences encompass drugs, alcohol, casinos, laundering money, but most importantly inter-planet trades and tariff control. The most powerful Mafia Faction that inhabits Earth. Their main competition on Earth are West City Triads and The Bloody Cripplers which takes a form of street gang more than organized crime.

Belle covered most of it, but I tend to think of Earth on Chubbs being more used to aliens and such, unlike the Earth from the show (who managed to somehow stay ignorant even after Nappa blew up ships on live TV). Likewise, I figure ki's existence is not up for debate, allowing that to become part of the culture. So maybe there's superpowered sports, books that teach you how to fly for fun and profit, and people have been forced to come up with new and improved security measures like what Belle mentioned.

As a question for the REAL oldies, like Kaden, was there ever a point where Earth was just like the show and ignorant of everything? I tend to assume that general knowledge of ki, aliens and such is something that's happened in the last century if not decade, but I could be wrong.

lol something that always made me laugh was like...on the show...earthlings freaked out when a space ship landed with aliens....but no one...was the least bit freaked out by a Dog being the mayor.....lol Or the walking talking animals in the city lol

I always found it of the utmost hilarity that the mayor was a dog, with no explanation. So I always like to keep that intact.

It's not really that unusual, unless you've just watched DBZ.

Dragonball established fairly early on that anthromorphs share the world with humans. MOST often this is seen as canines, though others do exist (bears, pigs (Oolong), cats (Puar). It was just one of those quirky things about Toriyama's world.

The leader shown in the Cell Games is also the same one that was in the Piccolo Daimyo arc, iirc. And he's not so much a mayor as the KING OF THE WORLD.
