I think it might be kinda cool to have a long list of cool items you can buy in the afterlife, and that would be an easy way to decide if you can come back to life or not.

Waffuru Wrote:Karma points. Awarded by quests, both while alive and dead, in which you receive either positive or negative points. The amount of points awarded from quests should be greater in the Afterlife though. Then we can have shops in Heaven/Hell to spend karma points (negative points in hell, positive in heaven but you'd be unable to cross 0 through purchase). We can put whatever in the shops, including resurrection. This is nice. The way I envision what you're saying, there would be a 'shop' in heaven and a 'shop' in hell, and they might look something like this: Hell Shop: Resurrection: Performable for -1000 Karma Points (Cost decreases by 100 points for each month in hell after three months. So after staying four months the cost would drop to -900 Karma Points, etc.) Temporary Visit: Performable for -150 Karma Points, allows the dead to visit and participate in events that are taking place in the realm of the living. And then you could throw in a bunch of various Hell Specific items that would be transferable back to the realm of the living so that people who are enjoying their time in the afterlife have more to strive for and more to spend their money on. (for instance, Kaden said there was a lot he could do with the four temple deal in heaven, so give those people more to RP for then just Resurrection). For instance, maybe something like: Dabura's Blessing: -500 Karma Points. Boosts CA by %5 in battle, good for two uses Heaven Shop: Resurrection: Performable for 1000 Karma Points (Cost decreases by 100 points for each month in hell after three months. So after staying four months the cost would drop to 900 Karma Points, then after five months the cost would drop to 800 Karma Points, etc.) Temporary Visit: Performable for 150 Karma Points, allows the dead to visit and participate in events that are taking place in the realm of the living. And then a bunch of Heaven specific items that follow the same mold and same purpose as the Hell specific items. And like Waff said, negative Karma points would be earned through quests in Hell and positive Karma points would be earned through quests in Heaven. (The only problem I see with this is say you're in Hell and have earned -400 Karma Points and then a bunch of folks die and go to Heaven and you want to RP with them, using one of the portal/warp door ideas you move up to heaven, then in order to earn Karma Points do you have to overcome the -400 KP you earned in Hell? Almost like a Penance for you evil deeds? But then that is a disincentive to move from Heaven to Hell and could possibly lead to the same problem we have now: no one wants to RP alone for months on end. Maybe a way station that transfers negative Karma Points into Positive ones wouldn't be such a bad idea). And you keep the Temple Quest things, or whatever, or add in different quests so, ideally, a dead person could earn enough Karma points to purchase items and whatever, and then also perform the resurrection when they would like to, after having worked through quests, of course. And you might even be able to create one or two hell and heaven specific techniques that you can only learn in hell and heaven. I'm not sure what that would be, but as your earning all these Karma Points you're also creating massive heaps of XP, and it'd be fun if there was an element of the afterlife that also acted as a draw for spending XP. Then the afterlife would be connecting with users on all fronts. You'd have interactive, jumping point quests that could be recreated/altered when needed, you have a place to spend earned money that is specific to the afterlife, and a place to spend XP that's specific to the afterlife. ![]()

I like Waff's idea as well. I'm going to make a list of items on the original post that we need to either finalize or discuss more.

Rambling thoughts about the way station: Would the way station be a place to zero out your karma or would it negate the karma you had (ie, 400 to -400)? I'm personally in favor of it zeroing the karma, but I can see how people would complain that it makes all their work for naught. In regards to negation, if items unique to both Heaven and Hell are going to be introduced into the shops (to which I say hell yes), it definitely shouldn't be a 1:1 conversion, since it wouldn't make sense that a person with -800 karma would suddenly be able to purchase a holy buff worth 800 (dead baby soup kitchen argument). However, it would be less objectionable if it were to negate and knock a percentage off if we were leaning in that direction (ie 400 to -200). Also, would the shops deduct karma or is the karma just a benchmark? That is, you want the sweet demon wing debuff at Hells Bells that costs -300 karma; you currently have -350. After the purchase, would you have -50 karma or would you just unlock the debuff and remain at -350? If it's the former, then why need the way station to fix karma if we have enough shop items of varying prices? People could just buy buffs until they're close to zero. Or, would the items only be usable in the afterlife location in which they were purchased? My opinion remains to zero the karma at the way station, especially if the items in the shop are purchasable and deduct from karma anyway.

The Karma points will be deducted after each purchase, yes.

Aren't these two Karmas separate currencies? (Positive and Negative)
Why do you have to do anything with them if you swap afterlife locations. I mean wouldn't you just start earning the other one while the opposing Karma sit there, unable to be spent because you're not in Heaven/Hell? I typed that many times and for some reason I still don't know if I'm successfully getting my point across >_<; Quote:Vad's Whimsical Whimsicalisms: Men. Piper Juunanagou Wrote:Aren't these two Karmas separate currencies? (Positive and Negative) Er, no they aren't separate. Everyone starts at 0. You do a quest that rewards positive karma and you are now at 50 karma. You decide later you want to go evil and do an evil quest and are awarded negative 350 karma... now you're at -300. If you for some reason wanted to start earning the other side of karma I'd say just go spend the karma you have before trying to switch... I guess we could zero it but still.

I think if you do evil quests, and you're at -1000, and you suddenly decide you want to be good you have to work at it to get into the plus again. It adds a bit of flavor to the RPing and actually explains why you went from killing babies to walking grannies across the street.
This is of course if all quests [in life and death] offer Karma. If Karma is only in Heaven and Hell then it could be a bit cumbersome, unless of course you can freely travel. I suppose if you have -1000 you could spend it all and be done with it lol.

I think it should be restricted to the Afterlife, but I'm undecided on forcing people to earn their back to either negative or positive. I think however, that without a doubt, we should allow members to freely travel between Hell and Heaven. However, this hasn't been stated yet, I think you should start wherever your judgement puts you. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

God, fine I'll bite you bastards.
I WOULD be a fan of gaining karma anywhere, but then people would show up to the afterlife with it saved up. I think you should totally have to earn your way back and forth between negative karma and good karma. It makes sense. Also, all the items and skills associated with items you buy with good karma and bad karma should be reflective of the fact that it was bought with that type. Healing/regeneration and goody-tow-shoes shit for positive and like, the ability to kill ONE ORPHAN AT THE TIME OF YOUR CHOOSING for negative karma. Mak it so that the stuff you can get is representative of the actions to took to get there. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Thank you for clearing that up. I'm pretty sure the fact that they could just spend their way back to (or close enough) to zero essentially negates the need to discuss mechanics for zeroing or earning back to zero their karma? Unless, you know, they need to maintain some certain positive or negative threshold to benefit from the heaven/hell buffs. Quote:Vad's Whimsical Whimsicalisms: Men. I really think you should gain karma outside of the afterlife, but at a much slower rate then while dead.

What about people who are neutral? Are they just boned in terms of afterlife items? D: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

If it's not alignment, how does the other currency eat the other currency? If it's not alignment, that makes no sense. : o
