The Like/Hate Thread
I hope they are capable of keeping their hands in their pockets, people letting themselves be provoked causes lawsuits that in part fund their whole organization.

They're not, sad to say they're not. But if anyone from WB gets hurt they brought it on themselves.

This has happened in the past. WB sued the fuckshit out of them.

They're a bunch of inbred assholes, but they know exactly how to play the legal game.

Some videos for your viewing pleasure:

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Fred Phelps actually pushes his children to pursue law in order to assist with the court cases. Also, he used to be a lawyer (civil rights, ironically), so yeah.

Props go to Nate Phelps for speaking up against his family.

I have just made a vow to Jarka, and ALL POWERFUL ATHEISM, that I will douse myself in pigs blood and freak the fuck out in counter protest if they are within driving distance of me.

So far I've been hearing there are people in the community and various groups who will come together and form a line/barrier to keep the WB shit-eating bastards at bay. I hope that be seen as good enough for her family who have asked that people try their best to be civil and try to ignore the antics of the protesters.

Fucking Square Enix. From henceforth I swear a solemn pledge to never touch ANYTHING with their brand on it again.

Mindjack, how about jackshit. What a piece of cardboard box filler.

In case I wasn't clear: I hate Mindjack.

e: uh, deepest respect for the more important things in the thread, but I really dislike this game.

Yeah, Square Enix has really gone down the shitter. They typify just about everything that's wrong with the Japanese game industry: primarily, the general inability to innovate.

Squeenix didn't make Mindjack, they only published it.

Actually they are pretty innovative, they just happen to innovate in ways that annoy people greatly as opposed to bringing things to the table that are entertaining.

The problem with being innovative is that, by its nature, you kinda don't know whether what you're going to get will be gold or shit until after you've put the time and effort in.

But as a consumer, you COULD have just ... y'know ... http://www.metacritic.com/search/all/mindjack/results

Should've added, 'successfully.' Failed MMOs don't count.

Well, I dunno. Valve has been pretty innovative all along, and they're rather consistent about it. There very much is uncertainty about it, but some companies seem to be much better about it than others.

Yeah well, feelplus hasn't really ever done anything on their own.

naw, squaresoft was pretty successful at innovation and were an industry leader until they made that retardedly expensive movie. they've been in a deathspiral ever since.

You talking about Advent Children, or Spirits Within?

Regardless, I think it's a mistake to attribute SE's decline to either of these films.

That's terrible.

Still, power to you for having the strength to make that decision. Sometimes, it's the only humane option.

Square was pretty good. Because the products that they were making was relevant and palatable.

But Square is still making games like it's 1998. The whole 'turn based RPG' model is tried and true, but has a limited market, and where they 'innovate' usually tries to gloss over what it is at its core. See the recent games, where you can elect to have it played for you so that you don't have to deal with the battle system.

Part of the problem is that Square has serious groupthink issues - they seem to be out of touch with what normal people really like about games. Evidence of that? Look at FF XIV; they kept all the worst parts of FFXI (the horrible grind, repetition, arbitrary bullshit) while cutting out most of the fun. Not only that, they managed to make their menu system somehow even worse.

Square needs to toss out their old paradigm and approach RPGs from a completely fresh standpoint if they want to buck their slide into irrelevance.
