We were all having issues while on Vad's server again that time.
Richard (Trygelan) found a good deal on some servers so we've got one set with 10 person max. We spawned some stuff to build a shelter next to the spawn area while also building a road at the spawn blocks (which won't be editable). We made a building out of bedrock and placed chests inside full of some starting tools for people. We placed them one tool per block at these are intended to be something to take for new players wanting some quick starter gear so that they can run off and get a spot rather than spend as much time punching trees.
The building is made of bedrock so that creepers can't detonate it or the road, but they can destroy the torches and the wooden door. If they destroy the door, please replace it. We did a bit of bad planning and build it up to the edge of the spawn area, which means that when we put the iron door with button there, no one without operator permissions could press the button to get in (which was kinda funny). So wood it is, for now. When we finally figure out how to get through that bedrock a bit, now that we know how to modify spawn, we'll build a building around the spawn chunk itself with a couple of exits or something.
Spawned items are only going to be used for the purpose of spawn. This includes the two of us. As soon as we finished, we jumped into lava and started anew. He logged, and I got on with Erin (She's got an account now) and we went tree punching (I didn't even take any of the tools from the chests since I just wanted the safe haven, though I may take a bow and some arrows). I claimed a giant canyon style valley behind a waterfall of a sheer cliff wall. I put a sign up at the top facing it and a workbench and plan to roof that over and start a project inside it, but there's lots of really cool landscapes that I left untouched, including some floating ground areas. The map is kinda cool, actually.
Also, there's this one piece of clay that I saw when I first spawned that I couldn't take. Because it was in the spawn zone. Which left me trying repeatedly. We lovingly left it and put a sign on it naming it "Trollclay".
Server IP: REMOVED
Please be respectful of other people's projects and please don't completely rape the spawn house's chests. He wanted bare basics with stone tools only, and doesn't plan on restocking it, so there's a very limited supply in them. Take what you need, only what you need, and use that to help get you started a bit easier. Enjoy.
EDIT: I removed the IP because rather than do what the last paragraph said, the goal seems to be to out-grief each other, and that's just stupid.
