Hate: Dragon Age 2. Bioware is deleting any threads posted on their forums where people with legitimate concerns about the quality of the game are asking questions and banning them. Then, Bioware super fans started signing up for this game review site to give Dragon Age 2 10's to mess with the score, so people countered it by giving it 0's. Then the Bioware super fans whined about people "messing with the review scores". Also, not to mention every legit game review site out there is giving it 10's, and I would very well guess they were all paid by EA to do it. I'm not going to lie, the game looks completely disappointing. That is, if you can even manage to run it. Someone managed to make it not look like shit, on super max settings (with a really really nice computer, I mean really nice), and they could only get about 5 fps while moving. But, here ya go:

I don't know how, but they somehow managed to make it look worse than the first, while also running like shit.

Yeah, I've not heard terribly flattering things about it.

Not to say that review sites aren't being paid off too, I can't know, but it's not like DA2 was ever gonna get anything less than good scores. Origins got great scores and RPG-of-the-year claims, this is the sequel. I know they fucked some things up but I really doubt they could fuck it up enough to not get critical acclaim. My computer ran the demo just fine on high settings. Deleting any/all negative comments is really lame of them, but just because it's created by evil people and loved by creepy morons doesn't mean the game itself is bad. It just means that, like half of the things I like, I have to pretend not to like it because otherwise it means I'm a fag too.

It didn't help the high res wasn't shipped from get-go, but if the guys with great computers have NVidia, then that's the problem. There is an issue with the current driver set for NVidia and there is a beta out to make Dragon Age 2 run much better on NVidia cards on higher settings. It goes from unplayable to enjoyable (I've been told; I don't even have DX11..)

e: if unfamiliar with NVidia driver downloads, you can snatch that driver on their website under beta drivers.

Bioware remains to be my favorite company. I'll always be a fan. I'm going to pick this up for Xbox 360 tomorrow when I get paid.

I've filled my bitching quota before it came out, and now I'm trying to salvage fun out of the release, which I wont lie isn't that hard. But, I've never put it down here so...

Shit:

1)ME2 Dialogue wheel: shitty shit shit. Its fine for a cruise control space opera story but fantasy RPG is built on different principles. In ME1+2 I was playing the role of Shepard so that was cool, but in DA1 I was playing the role of the character I made. Now I picking between three characterizations of one dude: Hawke. And sometimes WHAT I say isn't even matched by the wheel choice.

2) Hawke: Fuck that name. Fuck his golden sue eyes. Fuck him.

3) Changes in art design: The graphics ARE better in technological terms, but turning Hurlocks into emaciated crack addicts that can unhinge their jaws is a fucking joke. And that Ogre. Flesh skin. Good change for Gollum in LotR when you needed to sympathize with his character, bad for beefy mooks that are supposed to be corrupted monsters.

4) Keeping Art design: Most of the swords look like nerf larp weapons. Still.

5) Reducing the Threat per Enemy: By which I mean, killing an enemy means alot less this time around on any difficulty.

6)'Streamlined combat': this is slightly different. Your character hops around the battlefield like a hamster on crack, and is agile as fuck. Even in full plate as a sword and boarder.

7) Story: MINOR EARLY GAME SPOILERS:
Family that happened to live in Lothering with three siblings who have no trouble cutting through more than a hundred total dark-spawn. Sure thier father was an apostate, but how many mages were cut down at ostagar? They aren't THAT special.

This is only so far but I'm doing a bunch of shit, meeting characters that are joining me and killing hundreds of human beings... to earn 50 sovereigns to get out of a city. It all feels very clusterfucky and pointless and not well paced.
This is early though it may earn this shaky start.

not shit: That dwarf guy is cool. And the elf chick. She's alright. Also I didn't like the huge pauldrons and those are gone so cool. The stats are a little better and the tech trees more streamlined. The city is well made and feels more city-y than, say, Denerim.

#1 and #2 I blame on all the people who whined about the main character not being voiced. I still intend to enjoy DA2, but I expect it'll be in a slightly different way to Origins - which I'll just keep replaying in the background until 2020 when someone makes another game that hits that particular spot.

When I played the demo, I was really irritated at how different the art style was. It's irritating enough they had to make it play more like Mass Effect, but (to me) it even looked just like Mass Effect, in terms of the appearance of the characters and whatnot. It made me kind of sad.

I still look forward to playing the game when I have the spare bling to buy it, because Bioware's one of my favorite makers of vidji games.

Hate: Dragon Age 2

Don't like the new art style.

Hate the new Friend/Rival nonsense. People randomly seem to gain friend and rivalry for no reason in a lot of cases, leaving me pretty much in the middle all around. Bethany made sense so I got her to friend almost instantly in my rogue game, but Carver...fuck that kid, along with most of the others.

Hate the fighting. I mean, the system is graphically more interesting than the original and for better or worse faster paced, but there's just so much of it, especially with "reinforcements" that enemies get. Just fucking be dead already, I don't care about groups of one and two enemies coming in after the others are all dead, just let me move on.

Hate the loss of Coercion and tying lockpicking to Cunning
Without Coercion, there's almost never any non-violent resolution of anything, which adds the above. The lockpicking thing, really, is more about me hating not being able to open a chest more than almost anything in a game with lock picking. It simply infuriates me, so I had to invest my first many levels into cunning so nothing would escape me so I had like, no dexterity for forever.

Hate junk. I mean, wtf? All this random crap takes up 20 of 70 slots in my inventory and sells for a whopping grand total of...ten silver. That used to be where probably 1/3 of my money came from in the first game.

Hate: Reused zones. I hate having to go to the same locations multiple times and spend the 2-3 minutes running along the beach to find the cave I need to get to the next iteration of the same cave they used for every single quest involving a cave. Also they use the same cave for every instance of needing a cave, they just make certain parts inaccessible in certain quests, but you can even still see the path on your mini map. Fail.

Hate: Another game I was excited about turned out to be horrible. I miss great games. =(

Also hate: Bethany is my sister and thus, not a romance option. >.>

Only found one so far where I was iffy about what to do, and that was more about whether I was willing to let something unjust continue to occur in order to get paid. Eventually did the right thing, but only because my companions at the time would've been pissed.

Source?

I just straight don't believe that. It sounds like an outrageous exaggeration designed to do nothing but build hate for the game/company. Or a very, very, very, very liberal use of the word "legitimate."
