BT1 WILDCARD VOTING
#21
Alexander Trafford Wrote:That's not what I was saying, I was saying that it makes more sense, IC, to take back someone who was already in the tournament and who was popular with the 'crowd' (had close voting).

Dun' give a shit what makes more sense IC.

Belle Wrote:I think it's kind of stupid that someone who didn't even participate in the initial rounds, the sign-ups, or anything related to the tournament at all can get bumped into the semi-finals and have a really good shot at winning when the rest of us had to work for it in some fashion.

But whatevs. If that's how this is going to work, that's how it's going to work.

The wildcard will have to beat two of the best writers in the tournament to win. They will have to go undefeated.

No matter how we do this, there will be a discrepancy. If the wildcard was selected only from those people who participated but were disqualified, then that person, upon winning the tournament, would have one loss. Their opponent, upon losing the tournament, would also have one loss. That too, is stupid.

Alex Wrote:There's three of us, give one of us a bye, the other two fight, and then the winner fights the guy who had a bye. The bye would be determined by random chance (one of those randomizers?). I also wouldn't be against a three way final.

A bye into the final would be fucking stupid.

It isn't. Tell me which of your votes you want to count.

EDIT: If I am not informed by the time this poll closes, I will remove both of your votes from the poll.

But a bye at this level is like... hrnff. That would suck a lot. I mean, I can see jammin' somebody in the semifinals (not that I think it's a great idea or anything), but letting somebody skip the semis seems a but... mehrenfh.

I'll point out that this system is hardly happy-news for me either, but when nearly half of the tournament's participants default on their posts, there will be repercussions.

For next time, I will definitely be introducing a refundable entry fee.

letting someone skip the semis is worse than letting someone skip into the semis?

How is it less stupid to let someone who has survived two rounds skip one round, and that person is selected randomly, then to let someone skip two rounds and land in the semifinal?

@Meer: It's not a question of ability, it's a question of effort.

Yeah, that's what he's saying. When people default on their rounds it fucks up the brackets.

And yes, I think skipping one of the last final fights is silly because the earlier fights are used to "weed out" whereas the lat rounds are used to decide the winner. Makes sense to me at least.

Effort doesn't matter for the purposes of victory. Votes do.

This whole thing hasn't been a secret. Why are you bringing this up now?

Okay, you're either being deliberately obtuse or I'm being very unclear.

The current participants have had to maintain quality for two rounds to get their votes. The eventual winner will have to maintain their quality for two more.

Someone like Piper will only have to participate and keep quality up for two rounds total - or half of what a normal winner would.

I cannot imagine how you think that that doesn't matter.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck. Again, ideally, I would have preferred that all persons who said they were participating actually participated. Didn't happen.

This is the best solution I found, considering the weird number we were left with. Having a bye into the finals was absolutely not going to happen, and the weird construction of byes that would have been necessary otherwise was just too much.

Okay, I got no problem, then.

Ok, the only way that we can resolve the issue is to either:

Have a 3 way battle
Have a wildcard

3ways are too confusing.

Let's just beat around all the dumb shit and just nominate the people that actually participated?

Aero
Mal
Edward
Shou
John Doe
etc...

There's plenty of people who were kicked out of the tourney to choose a wildcard from that pool. Besides, these people have actually been active in the tournament.

Just my perspective though.

Add Shane's name to that list. I would have liked to have been a wildcard. Just didn't get the chance to go online yesterday to state why I'd like to be a wildcard.
