Alexander Trafford Wrote:I think this is very inaccurate. Most people will argue that the early childhood education is far too feminine for young boys, and that's why we're seeing an increase in ADHD diagnoses. Young girls are more able to sit attentively and listen and learn, and young boys seem more hardwired to explore and be unsettled. Definitely going to agree with this. I was never able to sit still in school and this was over 10 years ago. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I sat still just fine. Education isn't 'feminine,' parents just need to tell their hyperactive children to sit the fuck down, instead of giving them free reign to do whatever the hell they want.

Parents have always sucked, I think... But yeah. I got diagnosed with like, ADHD, bipolar disorder, all this bullshit and the school system was like, GIVE HIM MEDS!! And my mom was like, FUCK YOU, BITCHES, and then I just learned to sit the shit still and focus. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

It's essentially pure Eurovision. The song is technically shitty and fucking weird and filled with people that have strange facial features, but catchy. EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moldova In case, like me, you'd never heard of Moldova. Its population is roughly two-thirds that of the state of Maryland. ![]() Mal Nova Wrote:I do apologize for using the word rape. Some children mature faster, and you're definitely missing the point. Young boys learn about the world through exploration, rather than being taught, so the very nature of a classroom-style teaching may be counter to the learning habits of normal, young boys. ![]()

I was a hyperactive child, and extremely embarrassed for it. As a clear instance of ADHD, I was constantly picked on for those tendencies: abundant energy, bizarre train of thoughts, etc.
I wanted nothing more than to change, and couldn't. In college, my grades suffered for it (I lost the abundant energy mostly, but still had extreme difficulty focusing; I once spent a full sixty minutes staring at a page of Rousseau, with my eyes scanning the page, completely unable to take anything in. Well-rested, no coffee, didn't drink anything weird, etc). Telling a hyperactive child to 'get the fuck over it' is much like telling a suicidal teen the same. Which is to say it is super helpful. ![]() Mal Nova Wrote:I do apologize for using the word rape. There are four separate definitions for the word rape, two of which describe vegetation...

I was a hyperactive child and loved every minute of it. I was shunned slightly, though. The shit hit the fan in 6th grade.

Fixed that for you. If classroom-style teaching is so "feminine" and explicitly counter to the learning styles of boys, then women would dominate the workforce, particularly the STEM fields. This is simply not the case. On that note, from discussions I've had with education majors and educators, adapting lesson plans to incorporate multiple learning styles is highly encouraged for teachers today because it helps learners of every style. Even when I was still in high school, teachers pushed exploration and discussions on top of traditional lectures and essays. In regards to what Piper said, asking a person with ADHD to learn when to sit quietly is no different than teaching a person with autism the meaning of facial expressions and proper behavior using flashcards. There's a big difference between saying "I have ADHD and have difficulty focusing" and "I have ADHD and cannot focus." The first person is likely taking initiative to incorporate into society, while the second is using their diagnosis as a crutch and an excuse not to. Autism flashcards:

Jarka Wrote:Fixed that for you. Feminine qualities are not limited to females, and masculine qualities are not limited to males. In a feminine system, females are not the only ones who can succeed. Also, as people mature, they tend to balance feminine and masculine qualities. Typically, when people talk about early childhood education things like leadership and competitiveness fall into the category of masculine qualities, where as organization and attentiveness are described as feminine qualities. As people mature, these things tend to balance out, but, apparently, they are more unbalanced in young children. And so young boys are more unbalanced in favor of masculine qualities, which tends to be boys, are at a disadvantage until they mature. There, fixed it for you. ![]()
