Black Ops Discussion

Earth Intelligence Agency: Black Ops

The EIA Black Ops Squad is looking for new blood. This is a good chance to get your feet wet in a group RP if you haven't done so yet. Two spots have already been filled and we need three more. As a group we'd all have the profession pertaining to our squad role and our missions would be tailored to the group as a whole. Objectives and obstacles would make use of everyone in the group. (Almost like mini saga's) We're willing to be extremely flexible with you. Just because your character was recently a school teacher doesn't mean he/she can't be a soldier :P

Active Duty Roster
Squad Leader and Sniper - Simone Lanciotti
Infiltration Specialist - Tyr Raun
Heavy Weapons/Assault - Victoria
Explosives Expert - John Doe

The System

Team Member Role Descriptions:

These are brief summaries of what your role is capable of doing.

Infiltration Specialist - The role of the infiltration specialist is to get his team in safely and quietly. Often scouting a bit ahead, the infiltration specialist excels at providing entrances for his team, regardless whether the entrance is blocked by a locked door, a security system or a rifleman.

Squad Leader and Sniper - Leader of The Black Ops team and group Sniper. She uses long range weapons and long range strike packages to eliminate obstacles for her teammates. She's also a reliable scout when perched in the proper position.

Explosives Expert - Ever hear the term "Breach and Clear?" Well the Explosives Expert is all about the breach. Carrying anything from basic fragmentation grenades to large satchel charges his job is to blow shit up. From breaking down walls, shredding groups of infantry, destroying weapons caches, and tactically collapsing entire buildings the Explosives Expert does it all.

Heavy Weapons/Assault - The "Point Man" of the group. The Squad Leader may be the ranking officer, but the Heavy Weapons and Assault team member is all about engaging overwhelming groups of enemy combatants and punching holes in lines of defense where none previously existed.

Black Ops Rank System:

This is purely for flavor. Example: If an argument ever breaks out between us ICly there's going to be a commanding officer to break it up. The rank provides no benefit and really doesn't do much outside of providing a system of command. This allows us to function like a real military group. It also presents RP fodder. Note: Just because your rank is lower doesn't mean you're less valuable. We're a team and we need everyone. We'll be using the US Army rank system for this so the following rank is what everyone is going to start as. (In descending order)

Squad Leader and Sniper - 1st Sergeant

Infiltration Specialist - Staff Sergeant

Heavy Weapons and Assault - Sergeant

Explosive Expert - Corporal

Support - Specialist

Mission Dossier and Mechanics:

Each mission is going to be planned ahead of time. (When I say that I mean we're going to be given a map, objectives, and told to go on our way.) To start, the dossier is going to contain the tactical map (which I will make and label in paint), general intelligence that the EIA has provided us, and goals/objectives for the mission. The missions will vary from blowing up a base and killing everyone inside to capturing a target and radioing for extraction. Or both.

Tactical Map:

The map is going to act like a satellite scan. It will show the layout of the target area and provide each of us with a series of ideas on how to go about doing the mission. For example: A watch tower (after it's been liberated) would make an excellent sniping position. I'll label the map to avoid confusion.

Mission Intel:

The mission intel is going to be a series of vague statements that will be worded in such a way so that each member knows what they'll be doing. For example: "Our technology analysts has presented a report that a new security system of unknown make has been recently installed." This would tell the Infiltration Specialist that he has an obstacle to cover AND if he decides not to do it there WILL be an alarm that will sound probably creating havoc. Again, the dossier will be PMed to all group members before each mission thread.

Goals and Objectives:

This is the core of the mission. These will detail why we're putting our asses on the line. While the mission Intel section may seem complicated, as long as we complete these objectives we really don't need to follow the Mission Intel. The point is to create realism while providing freedom.

Posting:

We'll be trying to post in a given order. Each member will be given 72 hours to post before it defaults to the next member. It will follow rank in a descending order. This is of course just an incentive and special arrangements can easily be made.

Note: You can either use Soldier or your team role as your profession. That way we all get paid.

Addendum One: Present Situation - A section of the dossier that gives an opening or "spawn" point for our characters. It can be anywhere from a military base to a convoy truck on the way to the mission. You can either start at the given point or work up to it, but it will allow us to start the mission with everyone on the same page and go from there.

Uh, slight note, it'll be Leo's alt character that will be the infiltration specialist! I have the character down, just lack a name. Boo.

Explosives Expert? Sounds like John Doe is willing to join up.

I'll have to step up and fix my roster since I recently decided to stop making Doe a caricature.

Ahh, what the hell. I'll be the heavy weapons/assault guy. I was going to keep Jayd, but I'll just make a new guy.

Me and Leo deemed that our system (which will be revealed at later date) would provide the Scout/Spotter with an unfair burden. The role has been changed to a Combat Medic and Support. We will reveal how it's going to work group wise. I should have our first mission ready by then as well. We'll definitely have the system done before my surgery Monday.

Of course. I managed to hammer out the system tonight. I'm going to run it by Leo tomorrow and we'll be releasing it here and accepting questions and suggestions from the team members.

Yeah, sorry about the lack of spots particularly while people are searching for ways to get their writing rejuvenated. We just couldn't think of spots that wouldn't cross over into other people's jobs and make the people taking the "extra slots" feel not needed.

Alright. The "system" is posted in the OP. If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns I implore you to make sure me and Leo know about them. We tried to balance guidelines for each mission with freedom. We may have hit our mark or completely missed. More sets of eyes may be able to shine some light on something. As for our first mission I have the dossier written up. I just need to make the map. So whenever we're ready and everyone is set to go we can start.

Hmm... if you need additional roles that don't tread on toes, I can provide my somewhat decent military knowledge to the task.

For example, I've noticed your lack of Pilot/Driver/Engineer/What-have-you. I suppose you could loop the task of moving your group from place to place, providing heavy-armor support, and keeping a mobile task-force headquarters under the purview of the Support guy. But I would think he'd have his hands full keeping you alive and such. A good driver would also be able to provide schematics of your current area while you're under fire, since he/she would be holding the fort in the team's exit strategy.

And Electronic Information Warfare Specialist would also be useful, considering how often you'll run into electronic locks, or have to hack a security system to shut down the turrets/whatever. He/she would also provide weapons repair and the like while you're in the field, sort of an equipment medic.

I think if you add those two "roles" you'll have yourself a tactical operations team able to handle damn near any situation that arises.

I am most of that Electronic Information Warfare Specialist, we just didn't have a name for it. I'll cheat a bit with Elemental Ki: Lightning with it. The equipment management on-route/on-sight is not covered by any role so far, though.

The pilot/driver thing is left out intentionally, we don't think anyone could be bothered actually roleplaying that. It would most likely be an enter/exit, at max, from that person and not much else. The LZ would probably be far away from the actual site itself most of the missions as to not get noticed.

I suppose we could just make one role called engineer that would be left with everything not covered (driving/piloting, repairs etc.), but I don't know how fun that would be to roleplay during missions. If anyone does express some interest in playing this role though, do feel free to post. We were sad we weren't able to fit more people into this particularly during the activity surge, but this role could fit in. I just don't think anyone would find it fun to roleplay.

Agreed with Tyr. If anyone wants to be the Engineer/Driver/Mechanic role by all means you're welcome to it. I can wiggle in some mission stuff for you guys. If you need an example of how you might write a post about piloting a helicopter for example I can link you to one of my posts as Rebekah.

Welp, seems like you guys had your stuff covered without my help. Lol! I agree that that particular role could be a bit boring, though integrating what Tyr said and maybe throwing in a bit of a close combat (shotgun) role might help.

That said, I would be interested if not for the fact that I doubt I'll ever actually roleplay again. I've come to the realization that I derive more joy from creating characters than actually playing them. Maybe on deployment...

With Psyren unavailable we need another for the Combat Medic/Support role. You need to be on Earth presently.

So yup, our plan was to get this going very soon but our medic had the case of the banned, so we're just gonna hold on till we get the medic. We are about 90% ready to go when the medic arrives though, so hold on other members!

Attempting to work on something. I have most of the details mashed out, and a decent story in my head to write. Now I just the hard task of turning mental images into words. Should be done kind of soon though. I have about 200 words done up and I'm still pretty close to the beginning.

Rather than focus on the Medic portion of the job, I was wondering if it would be alright for me to focus on the Support aspect. I plan on doing a sort of Jack of All Trades thing. Driving. Repair. Medic. Assisting team members in their task. Not trying to step on any toes though. Just trying to be that guy that when the Heavy goes down, he can pick up the slack, albeit in an unspecialized way.

Having people to write with gives me reason to write. Smile
