Aren't Brand, Annie, and Orianna like the best AP carry picks in the game right now? Why would you buff what is already powerful?

Annie and Orianna are regularly banned at all Elos. AT ALL ELOS. That should really say something.

Brand isn't a common ban, per se, but he's still really strong.

Uh, yeah, Brand doesn't need buffs in any form. If I'm playing my preferred role of AP in a ranked, I assure you that its going to be Brand, Orianna, or Malzahar, depending on the matchup. Honestly, its primarily the first and third there. I'm not against a few other AP choices that I feel proficient at, but Brand's laning is just fucking ridiculous and it doesn't get any worse from there.

She does, and I've honestly tried to get better at her. She's one of those that frustrate me because I feel that no matter how hard I'm trying with her, I'm just being dragged along by my team's success or failure and not contributing enough. And that's not the character in any way, its me.

I got my ass fucking served to me on a plate by a Cass as Orianna. That bitched zoned ME and made me fucking like it. I don't know how she had the mana to spam W as much as she did, but basically, every time she missed a skillshot, it was a Q (cheap). Everytime she hit, it happened to be W. Put me on tilt enough that I kept pulling a Shifo and just walking into her W repeatedly for the rest of the game.

I do intend to practice Cass so I'll try to get some time in doing that with you guys. Everytime I've intended, I've ended up playing another AP for whatever reasons I could come up with.

Cass' passive really does a good job of handling her mana problems. She seems like a champ that would have some, but they're not that bad.

She starts to feel it in longer sieges, but some MP/5 takes care of it pretty quickly. Or blue, which she should probably be holding for her team anyway.

That's definitely one thing I'll say Jungle Lee Sin is good with. Not needing blue.

Its a HUGE game changer to be able to feed your mid blue from that early of a level while still being incredibly effective in ganks and counterjungling. You are really giving an advantage to mid by both ganks and freedom to be as aggressive as you want with blue, and they also can't fuck the jungler by stealing our blue so easily themselves. It absolutely turns out to be a huge benefit to the entire team, imo.

Generally, yes, however there is some debate on which champs to rush it for specifically. Example - I'd rush Hourglass on Morgana and Kennen before considering the Deathcap. There are also other champs who gain more from certain other items than the Deathcap itself until they've built up more AP, according to discussions. Also, consider your team comp and how the game is going. There are many times I prefer getting a Rylai's before a hat simply because we have less CC and could use the slow (someone like Brand or Annie can abuse it, although I still tend to go hat first on them).
