The RIOT Act
The gold is nice, but not why the skill is awesome. Being able to check parts of the map from a very long distance gives a huge amount of utility.

Hate: when your teammates decide the best strategy is to go in and attack the enemy group one at a time. Someone pinged the enemy group and I was like "don't engage, they will destroy us in a teamfight", but apparently they thought if a teamfight wouldn't work, attacking them single file totally would.

Blah!

So i figured I'd go play a few solo queue Normal games...

My first game.. well before the first game... a guy who wound up choosing Veigar wasn't happy that I chose her because she isn't strong offensively and was bitching. I said she was good for support. He kept nagging. I lock in as her, and I think he left, or someone left, and another match got formed.

I got matched with him again. Tried again and he was bitching again... So to keep peace... I decided to chose between Sivir, Ashe, and Annie. I hadn't written Sivir's basic build down and couldnt remember it fully so I went ahead and got Ashe.

I wound up getting mid against their Ashe. I think I was the better Ashe, though I did get to close to their tower and got ganked like twice against their Nocturne.

Needlessly to say, we lost. Well surrendered. I learned something in the game... That fucker isn't real expereinced... and the person that did seem to be the smarter one on the team, Cho'gath, I asked him if he thought it would have been better to get Sokara. He said yeah the Health and mana would have really helped...

made me annoyed>_>

If you want to get better at the game, you have to play normals. Playing against bots will reinforce bad habits.

It originally came from DotA, but the mechanics that allowed it in DotA don't actually exist in LoL.

Most commonly, it just means ignoring everything else that's going on and attacking a tower when the enemy is somewhere else (like during a team fight you leave and go attack a tower in another lane).

Alternatively, it can also mean attacking a tower without any creeps.

I'm going to give you two definitions - one is the actual definition and origin of the term, and one is the commonly used definition, which is better defined by a different term altogether.

Backdooring originated in DotA. Originally, towers and barracks (essentially inhibitors) AND YOUR FOUNTAIN (nexus) had no invulnerability due to others being up. You could destroy them in any order, if you chose to. Therefore, there was a specific champ that was released (who's name escapes me) that could teleport. So for the entire game, he would teleport to the enemy team's fountain and just suicide as much damage on it as he could. They didn't regen like the Nexus in LoL does, so this dmg mattered. Then, every time the champ respawned, he'd just immediately teleport up and do as much dmg as he could again. Similar to Twisted Fate, in some ways, but not exactly.

It couldn't be dealt with. DotA had no "recall" ability, nor summoner spells (so no "teleport" spell). You would have to farm the gold to buy a Scroll to teleport back with that would be consumed on use. Even if you DID this repeatedly (letting the other four enemy players continue to play without changing their play), this "Twisted Fate" champ would ignore you and just continue attacking the fountain until he died, just to get as much dmg as he could on it. After enough times doing this, he would take the fountain regardless of what you did. The only way to stop it was to kill the opposing fountain first, essentially creating this giant timer of when a loss was inevitable.

People called it "Backdooring" or "bd" for short. Later they patched in a few methods to deal with it, as well as made it considered an exploit (which is basically what it was).

Both HoN and LoL put mechanics in that prevent this from happening, such as towers being invulnerable unless the tower before it is destroyed. So now, if someone complains about "that bding faggot yi", they mean what is more appropriately referred to as "creepskipping". Essentially, enemy champion, whether it is TF, Yi, Tristana, whoever, bypasses the creepwave and just tanks the tower, trying to either kill it before dying or does as much dmg as he can before peacing out. They don't bother to escort a creep wave to the tower because its unnecessary. Sometimes an entire team will do this (often actually) with the tank just "tanking" the tower hits.

If your inhibitor tower, inhibitor, or nexus turrets are weak and the enemy team has a Yi or TF on their team, absolutely expect that they will start pressuring those towers at every possible opportunity. If you notice a team where strong AD characters have Teleport, expect them to do this. It CAN be countered (though in Blind Pick, its MUCH more difficult to deal with) and its a perfectly legit and acceptable tactic. So if you go push a tower and someone screams "u fkin bd noob", ignore them and continue what you are doing. Riot (and S2 for HoN) have said its acceptable, its not an exploit (in the way these games allow it), it is VERY frustrating, and people are full of shit when they say "u can get banned for bd bitch!", because that's 100% bullshit despite people regularly trying to make that claim. They say this because they don't like the tactic and have a moral opposition to doing things that win the game, expecting you to play on their terms.

And yes, it will piss me off when someone does it to me but that's an issue on my end, not theirs. So in this game, if someone calls it "backdooring", they mean "creepskipping" (aka skipping the creep wave and just tanking the hits yourself), though a good number of the time they (and I) mean "let a wave push to the tower and I didn't pay attention for any number of reasons so holy fuck I need to suddenly respond fml".

One of the things that coordinated teams will do is trade towers. It is always worth it to give up a further out turret if it means you getting a further in one. Trade your Outer Turret for one of the enemy's Inner Turrets without even thinking twice about it. Same thing with Outer/Inhibitor.

A lot of people will drop everything and run to defend a turret and this is definitely not always the correct play. Conversely, if you're "backdooring" a turret, don't just put blinders on and ignore everything else. If your team loses two champs while you're trying to take a tower, you're going to lose a lot more than you'll gain if you take that opportunity to down a tower.

While backdooring has always had many complex ways to explain it way back from Dota days, but far the easiest one (imo) is: attacking a structure when your creep wave isn't there. That included creepskipping, teleporting to the nexus, or just simply attacking a tower when your lane has no towers and is pushed right up to your base.

Backdooring is when you attack a turret when there aren't any of your minions there to take aggro.

And on topic, WHY CAN'T I PLAY GANGPLANK IN RANKED MORE?? I know WHY he gets banned, I just wish he didn't when my team gets first pick. Why don't they want me to have OP champ? (And yes, he is. That raise morale is too fucking powerful.)
