So, I've seen it done(Watched an Akali on stream in that 10win thing agasint an EZ), and managed to do it myself(as Jax against a TF)... But how does a Melee fighter Mid lane against a ranged?

As I said I wound up having to go mid before and managed to handle a TF because no one else wanted to mid, and left it open and I got 2-4 kills in the first few minutes so it was easy. Thing is, I know that putting me against a Caitlyn as Jax is impossible, at least for me.

How can I fix this?

Also... how is the best way to hinder a Xin Zhao early game? The fucker seems OP even against my Jax. I can be in a bush at the start, he runs into my Empowered(W), and that will give me time to get two of them off at least, and Xin still gets me...

THat fucker with someone like Morgana can Tower dive me and destroy me with ease O_O

How to mid as a melee: Don't.

EDIT: It CAN be done with certain champs so I hear (I suspect Yi could probably do it, for example), but I've never done it, and I've never really seen it. I have seen a lot of horror stories.

Definitely not that hard.

Assuming you mean melee non-casters (Kass, Mao, Gragas, etc.) there are plenty of melee dps that can lane mid. Irelia, Pantheon, Garen, Xin, Nasus, Renekton, Warwick, Cho'gath (may fall under the "caster" umbrella for some people), Jax, Mordekaiser (see the note for Cho), etc., etc..

Anyone who can solo top can lane mid, really. When you're dealing with a ranged champion, it's just a matter of being patient and defensive. Don't trade when they have more minions, push onto them after they've used a skill or two and you know you have a couple seconds of CD, hit with a CC as you're breaking off from harassment (almost all Melee champs have CC and almost no ranged champs do).

If you need to farm, let the minion wave push to your tower and out-hit the tower for gold.

Exhaust will only annoy Xin, he has a blink in the form of his spear charge, much like your jump ability. If you want to hinder his attack drop an ignite on him which will do true damage and reduce his healing by 50%. Truthfully though Xin is a beast early game and does hellacious damage at level 1 like Jax.

If you know you're going to end up fighting him in a lane, grab cloth armor and 5 pots.

I know how Xin works.

Exhaust cuts damage and cuts movement speed. You can either get away if need be, or burst him down.

Pretty much this. If you exhaust him and his dash is off cd, then he just uses it when you hit max range in combination with his Three Prong Strike, usually keeping you slowed and knocked up just long enough to wait out the effects of Exhaust.
