I'm terrible at names. Even ones that revolve around things I do. I was thinking naming the cat Vad, but eh. It'll depend on the gender.

I based my cat's names around how they looked.

We had a black and white patterned one that I called Hershey.

Our brown tabby with white paws is called Boots.

Not terribly original, I'll admit, but I prefer that method to trying to put a name to something I've never seen.

I tend to name animals based on their behavior or actions. Both requires you to actually own the animal for a bit before naming.

I tend to refer to mine as "Bastard" roughly 90% of the time, regardless of his actual name. Might as well be named Jon Snow at this point.

Also, I name my cats after famous rulers. My current cat is named Nero. He's also black and thats latin for black.

When we first got him I had no idea wtf to call him, so I actually named him after the Nero image burningsoftware, too young to know any of the rest of it was happy coincidence, but hes set the fucking standard.

I also plan to name my animals after famous mythological creatures of the same type.

I had a professor at college that named his cats after hymn melody-titles. Not the title of the hymn itself, but the melody.

The first was 'Diotima' and the second was 'O Waly Waly'.
