Skyrim Discussion

Ok so...My friend says the PC I have will run Skyrim at the same quality, if not a little less, than having it run on PS3. He thinks I should just go P3 at that rate.

But then, I played WoW a lot, low settings, didn't care.

Even on low settings, is Skyrim still worth it to have on PC?

Whenever a massive and successful game is released, people. will. bitch.

I love the UI. It's intuitive.

The point of that article, anyway, was that the PC version is no different than the other versions, but the PC version will have the benefit of UI mods very shortly (if not already), whereas the consoles will not.

Buy it on PC.

EDIT: As in, the PC version is no different if you, like me, have a gamepad. Apparently, people don't like the way the mouse functions in the menus. Just plug in your 360 controller and enjoy.

If your Unrelenting Force has no cooldown, then that's a significant bug. It's supposed to have a 15 second cooldown.

Smithing 100? Skip ebony, do dragonscale/plate

BUT IF YOU MUST, a number of general goods shops sell a handful from time to time. Very time-consuming to get, though.

I also found a mine that had exactly enough ore(I stole all the owned ore as well for this) to make a full ebony set including shield and waraxe and then improve it all. I'll find the name next time I get on him. Something gloom mine or other.

Also, for armor, Dragon is the best light and second best heavy. Daedric is still king

I'm playing on relatively low settings and the game is still gorgeous and so much fun that I don't care that textures aren't super-high res.

Really, the deciding factor is whether or not you'll invest time into finding and using mods. If you're not going to do that, then there's absolutely no difference between the version and it really doesn't matter.

Figurative "no."

Man, it's like my post got ignored or something. : ( If you can't run Skyrim to the max, try getting this mod: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=123

If you download the Nexus manager (and get it to work... t_t) you can enable the mod and disable it without any harm to your game and just remove it if it doesn't work. A lot of people have said they could play the game better with this mod.

new character time. now that i've played through one of the major plot arcs (as a stormcloak rebel) i have a better sense on what to do to make a fun character.

name: Sauron. Orc w/ enchanting, smithing, heavy armor, one-handed and speechcraft. i use destr/restore but i'm not going to throw perks into them unless i have extra. since smithing is broken i'm going to level that first, get $$$ by crafting high-level junk and buy training for the rest. then i'll play through the dragon plot arc.

and ofc i'm going to wear daedric armor when i start crafting/enchanting rings

Is there any reason to wear Light Armor? Are the movement/noise penalties supposed to be enough to dissuade people from only using Heavy?

Read through a couple of the top comments and got a bit suspicious, but I'll look into it further tonight.

Another trade-off is that armor makes spells less effective, and heavy armor makes spells less effective than light armor. It's also a matter of inventory space for weight (though that becomes moot with a perk in each tree).

If you're straight up melee warfare, do heavy armor. If you're looking for agility and range (a la archery or magickery), use light armor.

Hahahahahahaha, so, I'm on a newish thief character fighting Forsworn, who suck. I make it to the last guy, a Briarheart, and sneak up behind him to steal and potions or whatever he might use, and take an item called "Briar Heart". Dude instantly dies and I see he had a gaping hole in his chest. Bwahahahahaha

Haha that's so badass, I didn't even know you could do that. Totally need to get that thief character going....

By the way, (tiny, useless spoiler about main quest series)
I fucking HATE the main quest initiates you in basically every "socially acceptable" guild. Hope you like permanent clutter in your quest series if you never wanted to join those guilds.
If I wanted to be in those, I would have gone myself game. Fuck.

Really hating the fact that it seems they (the designers) want you to just make one "catch all" character and just be a flipping Adonis with 100 in everything and just switching weapons like it's clothes. : ( Sure ruins my style of creating various characters with different specializations, at least.

I actually really enjoy this design choice. It incentivizes players to create a narrative for their character. Of course you can max your character completely, but that probably won't change the way you approach situations. Yeah, you may have maxed everything, but if you still think of your character as a thief, you're going to play the game as a thief. It creates a form of immersion backed by the imagination of the player, not the constraints of the game's mechanics.

Deciding you're going to play a "thief" character has, relatively, no meaning when you just click on an archetype and the game tells you what skills and spells and abilities you will/won't be able to get. Deciding you're going to play a "thief" character when you have all the options open to you at all times creates a connection between the character and the player.

Skyrim is the best example of story-telling-through-interaction that I think I've ever seen. Pretty much everything about the game is driven by how the player chooses to interact with it.

i got the $40 hardback guidebook, and it specifically says dont try to max out all skills on a single character. you'll have to reach lvl70 just to unlock most perks

just ignore quests you dont want to do. my quest list is full of junk on my current lvl30 char, and i dont care if that dipshit needs a wagon wheel or some bandits are waylaying merchants on a major road. i'm on a quest to rule the world

to that end, collecting daedra hearts and ebony ingots for daedric crafting is tougher than i thought it'd be. but thankfully training smith/enchant skills is easier than ever so once i do get the materials i'll be able to forge them easily.

Daedric hearts costs a smaller fortune depending on your speech and the only quest I've found any daedra hearts at is the Dawnstar museum one.
