The Old Republic Launch Thread
#1
So people don't have to go through pages trawling for information.

We are on the Sword of Ajunta Pall server, playing on the Sith Empire.
Our Republic alts are on The Shadowlands.

If you want ideas for what to take as Crew Skills, there's some really good info here: http://uk.ign.com/wikis/star-wars-the-ol...6_Crafting Bear in mind that you can only take 1 Crafting skill per character.

Characters:

Greg (Rose):
Rakugan - Sith Assassin - Diplomacy, Bioanalysis, Biochem
Rilani - Operative - Cybertech, Slicing, Scavenging
Praedessa - Bounty Hunter Powertech - Scavenging, Armormech
(The Shadowlands) Amitrika - Trooper Commando - Scavenging, Armstech, Investigation

Joe (Vad):
Ephemera(45) - Sith Juggernaut - Synthweaving, Archaeology, Underworld Trading
Ferril(33) - Powertech Bounty Hunter - Armstech, Scavenging, Slicing
Rhade(20) - Imperial Agent - Bio Chem, Slicing, Bio Analysis

Tim (Ashe):

John Doe:
Saber of Exar Kun: Shifobrains (50 Tank Powertech)

Sword of Ajunta Pall: Nudenfed (22 Medic Sorcerer)

Rafael:
Sword of Ajunta Pall:

Ashastra- Assassin, 22 tank, Cybertech, Scavenging, underworld
Orianna-Marauder, 21 deeps ofc, Treasure Hunting, Slicing, Archaeology
Endless, 22 Sniper deeps, buncha gathering skills
Shadowlands:
Bloodsoaked, lvl 12 Commando Deeps
Truthkeeper, Lvl 11 Sage Deeps

Rather than making a tiny Chubbs-only guild, I'm probably going to join up with Vad's guild from WoW at least for now because apparently they are a play-for-fun guild and cool dudes, I'm sure others'd be welcome. They are Shadow Sect.

Every class has a primary stat that boosts their base and ability damage and I'm gonna post it because they never really explain it in-game and people rolling Need on non-class gear keeps making me rage:

Knight/Warrior: Strength, Medium/Heavy armor (DPS ACs only get medium)
Consular/Inquisitor: Willpower, Light Armor
Trooper/Bounty Hunter: Aim, Heavy Armor
Smuggler/Imperial Agent: Cunning, Medium Armor

GTFO my Cunning Medium Armor you stupid Hunters

Right now on Ajunta Pal I have Kin'tarr, a Sith Warrior. He's level 8 because I only figured out how to make my internet less suck yesterday...and I have to pack and move today and tomorrow and sunday.

How do you guys do the crew skill stuff? I just pick the two skills that my companion is best at, and then the third one I just go off of whatever fits the other two the best. Is it worth not worrying about what my companion is good at? My thought process was at some point, all the companions will be useful for something.

Also, I'm not sure how to profit via professions. Keep in mind I am SUPER new, to a point of having done no research in the ways of professions.

I just picked the crafting skill I wanted for each character (Biochem for my Assassin and Cybertech for my Operative), then chose gathering skills that supported those. I'm not too worried about some companions being slightly better than others at certain things.

yeah, I didn't worry too much about what my companion had. +15 is cool, but out of a max of 400, whatevs

What's the best strategy for profiting off of professions? I'm finding that I'm spending more money on sending my companion out, then I am bringing money in via quests, galactic market (which I'm still not entirely competent in), loot, etc.

I'm loving the game, but I'm having a hard time getting a grasp on the economy.

I hear slicing is good for money, otherwise gathering by hand. I'm poor as shit, but at least I got medkits.

I go even farther in the 'not knowing a fuck' spectrum and just chose professions that were somewhat Star Wars-y.

Slicing, Underworld Trading, and weapons manufacturing (whatever that's called). The last one was kind of 'whatevs.' I wanted friends that could serve on Talon Kaarde's ships.

I made a trooper...temporarily. I found that I couldn't handle her ass and deleted it. My Sith Warrior is 26 and I have plans to start on Katreda (My beta character.) She was a Bounty Hunter. Farthest I managed to get was 15 before they wiped and released a new build.

EDIT: Adding my names and servers to the first page for convenience

Saber of Exar Kun: Shifobrains (50 Tank Powertech)
The Crucible Pits: Whingogo (8-9 Agent)
Sword of Ajunta Pall: Nudenfed (22 Medic Sorcerer)

***

I love this game so much right now.

I'm a Bounty Hunter on Exar Kun or whatever, and I was doing a Heroic quest with some randoms I met. It was Comrade in Arms, I think. Anyway, we were doing great until we got to a bridge. Droids were lined up and crammed together like a Tokyo subway car, so it was really easy to pull aggro and the respawn timers were really short. We got to the end and we found the thing we needed, but we had to fight back through the droids again (in order to get a bonus objective). Well, as we fight back through the bridge, more respawn and we get like 10 elite droids up our asses. We all died, the most glorious death was myself as I tried to make a run for it back across the bridge.

One guy ended up rage quitting and we only had 3 guys left to fight the bonus boss droid. Butt fuck it, we are men and we play to win! We grab a companion and bum rush it. We slowly start dying off to it. First the companion, then our tank, then our healer. It was just me and the giant droid. It had a good 1k left, and I was a tanky powertech. We went at it, both so low that you couldn't see our health bars. I had no other choice but to...

SHORYUKEN!

Best fucking time ever.

If you had made that experience a video your commentary would have been hilarious.

I regret not recording it.

Edit: Also, I'm retarded on crew skills. I got Slicing, Diplomacy, and Cybertech. Only now do I realize that none of those sync up to anything.

Stella'luna on Joyu server. level 13 Jedi Guardian. Big Grin I can't play right now though. Stupid final paper that I am somehow still procrastinating on. *grumble grumble*

Man alone measures time.
Man alone chimes the hour.
And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

My Powertech "Kaden" just hit 13 (wtf you guys play too much) and I'm liking it a lot. Took Cybertech and whatever the recommended skills for it were (I think Scavaging and Underworld Trading).
