I do.
I cook simple stuff that starts with a base (beans, or potatoes, or rice), and layer on pretty much whatever-the-hell-you-want. For rice, my goto is chili: can of salsa, can of diced tomatoes, can of black beans, plus extras (sauteed peppers, onions, etc). Spice that shit up. For potatoes, I usually do chili too. For bean soup, I stick pretty much everything in there: carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, onions (TONS of onion), peppers, etc. Chop that shit up real fine. Tofu, when I have it, goes on just about everything. And if I'm feeling lazy (as per usual), I do pasta + jarred sauce. ![]() Mal Nova Wrote:I do apologize for using the word rape. I have a small list of recipes I can do, but I wouldn't say I'm good enough to experiment much with any success.
Lemon Chicken,Chicken Picatta, chicken broccoli casserole, I make some decent burgers, pepperoni spaghetti, and a Masters in microwaving.

Niiiiiiice.
Yeah, I mostly just experiment myself. Honey BBQ chicken, Pasta with homemade sauce using butter, garlic, basil, parsley and tomato paste. Today I made beef flavored ramen with just the right amount of water so that fresh cilantro and the flavor packet absorbed into the noodles. Then to just add some protein I sliced portions of chicken and cooked them in a pan of sauce consisting of vanilla extract, japanese soy for the salt, garlic and balsamic vinegar. So far the only consistency is I go in the kitchen with one idea and end up preparing something completely different, lol.

You guys watch any Food Network shows by any chance? Chopped, Restaurant Impossible, you know, Iron Chef...those kind of shows. That's what's really boosted my interest in cooking lately.

I'd suggest Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything for anyone seeking to expand their cooking repertoire.

I cook tons of shit. I'm getting better now though. I still have the odd moment where I'm just like FUCK THIS RECIPE, I'M MAKIGN HOT DOG SOUP (actually happened) but those random things are actually starting to turn out better cause I kind of know wtf I'm doing now. Almost.

We should find a way to get a blank masters degree and actually make it so we could hang that on a wall. "Oh! You have a masters!?" "Yep!" "What for?" "Microwaving, bitch." [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

i cook mostly asian stuff because it is easy. stir fry w/ just vegs or beef or chicken or pork, fried rice, ramen with anything that will fit into the broth pot. so cheap!

I can cook, but I prefer to bake.
I can make chicken anything, I'm pretty sure, but that's nowhere near my love of kitchen chemistry.

If life gives you lemons, hand them to me! I've got a great recipe for lemon meringue pie.

I'm with Jarka on baking. For a while I was even making my own bread every other week.
I get kind of flustered when I cook sometimes if I have a lot of things going at once. I like foods where everything ends up in the same pot, though. I guess my goto lunch staple is a stovetop quesadilla, though. Black beans, pepper jack, and whatever leftover meat we have shredded. ^_^ [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
That book looks pretty cool Waff, thanks. I bookmarked it for one of those days I actually have money, lol. We've got tons of recipe books here, only problem is half the time we don't have the ingredients so I'm just like. Skim, close, experiment. Recipes Every Man Should Know is also helpful. Fits in the pocket.
![]() Edit: Ramen is classic. I love eating it with chopsticks after putting meat[pause] in it, makes me feel like Naruto.
This is what I think of whenever I'm about to have chicken and why I really don't enjoy eating it.

I eat chilli, which is actually God Fuel. If there were a form of chilli I could take intravenously, I would. In the meantime, I have to subsist on other inferior meals throughout the week with chilli powder and such dashed into random things to keep me going. It's only when I feel a growing weakness, a slugginessness in mind and body that I remember - I haven't eaten chilli in almost a week. When that happens I get some mince, I get some vegetables, I grab my trusty pot and I forge a chilli of greatest power. As its energised purity hits my tongue, I feel a spark in my soul, and when the plate is clean, I am born again.

Made chicken and mashed potatoes and by the time my chicken was done the potatoes were cold. I need to work on technique and timing.

Yeah learning the timing of crap is super important and thus really hard. I keep the oven on warm so I can cover things and keep em in there when I inevitably mess it up.
