LoM2 - Dev Journal and Character Abilities
#1
The following is a journal of my immediate thoughts as the game progressed from a moment to moment perspective. Forewarning, some of them may be crude, but I want to be honest as the GM at what went through my head as you guys played this game. I also had to constantly remind myself that you didn't have perfect information.

Quote:Pre-game:
This mafia game concerns me as there are only 10 players this time. I try to delay it but it becomes quite clear that getting more than 10 players is nothing but a dream, so I am going to try to make this work... I want to still have abilities that fully portray League of Legends, so as usual I'm taking a bit of a risk here. That said, I've already posted up the rules information so now to work on character abilities.

For this one, I want to add a lot of new characters, or shake things up by having previous characters with new abilities, or even some with the same. I don't want further games to be predictable that "This character will always have this ability and always be this faction". Sometimes the ability a character has will definitely exclude them from being a balanced choice for a certain faction, but the character in different games does not necessarily have to have that ability. I also am in no way against changing a specific ability from game to game and keeping the same name, for balance reasons and also to tweak it to work depending on certain factions.

That said, I think I've come to ten characters I like for this game... Here are my immediate thoughts on them.

1 - Soraka - Wish - Saves all players from a kill attempt that would be made on them that Night or Day Phase, to include Lynch, Execute, or similar. Day Ability or Night Ability. One Time Use.

This version of Soraka differs quite drastically from the previous game. This time the players might be right to assume that she's a protective role, but given how that assumption was so wrong last game, it may not happen. This role performs very similarly to the Amumu role of the previous game though instead of preventing only targettable abilities, it will allow all abilities to resolve but will save characters that would die from death.

2 - Warwick - Bloodscent - If no player is Lynched, then the character, faction, and abilities of the player with the most votes will become known to you. This is not a targetted ability. Triggered Ability.

This is a duplicate of WW's ability from the last game. I thought it performed well. I've used a similar model with the other "investigate" abilities this game as there are fewer players (but there might be more actual investigation abilities, not sure). Most of the others are less descriptive or reliable, so there may be some balance in there. I ultimately want multiple scraps of information pieced together when able instead of one or two characters dropping a full info bomb onto the game.

3 - Zilean - Time Warp - Target players Ability, if one is used, will not take effect until the following Day Phase (if it is currently a Day Phase) or Night Phase (if it is currently a Night Phase). Two Time Use. Day Ability or Night Ability.

Here's where things get wibbly. I honestly have no idea how awkward this could affect the game, but I'm interested to see this curveball in action. This is a similar experiment to last game's Urgot, which never got used. This can also affect a mafia Execute ability, if they hit the last player to send in the target. That means there may be a night where no one is Executed followed by a night where two people suddenly are. It also gives Zilean a bit of information if he uses it on a player and suddenly there is no Execute that night followed by one the next.

4 - Swain - Nevermove - Prevent a target from using their Ability this Night Phase. Night Ability. Two Time Use.

I picked Swain largely because he's a character I thought "How can I make him work?" He might throw people off, though this ability is the most obvious to build from. I want him to be able to interfere with other players a bit, but at the same time I want to limit it. I think Two Time Use is probably fair, as they'll not just throw it out there randomly but it still might have impact.

5 - Caitlyn - Yordle Snap Trap - Place a trap on target player. If they attempt to use a Night Ability that will target a player, their ability will not resolve and their character name will be revealed to all. Night Ability.

This originally said "That will result in the death of a player" but I didn't like the wording. It was meant to find hostile actions, but if someone diverts a player's ability of saving a player so that it makes them target Singed from last game, would that player then be responsible for their death and trigger the effect? I'm unsure on that. I changed it to "will kill a player" but then I realized that I included very few ways to actually kill a player directly. I could be overly cautious but I really don't want to have a low number of mafia suddenly die back to back from random players hitting them with kill abilities. Interestingly, the current wording makes it most useable by mafia, I think. This would also be a good way to keep players from assuming all mafia are evil characters.

6 - Nidalee - Bushwhack - Place a trap on target player. If another player uses a Night Ability targetting that player, you will become aware and may activate Pounce during the following Night Phase. This does not affect the outcome of that Ability. Night Ability. *Pounce - You follow this character, revealing their character sheet to you. Using this Ability will make you unable to use Bushwhack that Night Phase.

I wanted to put Nidalee in here to show two similar abilities in action with Caitlyn and see how they play. Both have abilities that players might assume are "Investigate this guy and tell me everything!", when in truth they are made to be much more complicated than that. We'll see how it goes.

7 - LeBlanc - Mirror Image - At the beginning of the game, choose one player. If an action or lynch would happen to you, it would happen to that player instead. Lynch votes against you will be totalled seperately from yourtarget, not adding together, and thus can not make a majority vote if one would otherwise not happen. One Time Use. Triggered Ability.

This is a carbon copy of her ability in the previous game. I really like how the ability panned out and would like to see it in action again.

8 - Fizz - Playful/Trickster - You may make yourself untargettable during this Night Phase. If you do, you may then choose to name two characters. Those characters do not actually have to be in this game. Each of those two characters will receive a message that the other character attempted to use an Ability on them but it was prevented. This is not a targetted ability. You will not have any information revealed to you.

I really, really wanted to do something that felt like Fizz this game. This was a bit testing of me, but I think it works. I considered a variety of things I could do here but I think I like this one the most. It can actually gather information if Fizz were to name a character and then someone post the next day "Pantheon apparently tried to kill me, thanks to whoever saved me!" I think it plays into the trickster nature of the character rather well, because it causes players to not be certain what the warning means and possibly read too far into it, while also possibly announcing more information than intended as Fizz has no other way to derive information from them other than to get them to say something. Unfortunately, if I use Fizz again in a future game, I would likely have to change this ability since it would then be predictable. Or maybe not. I'm sure I could find a way to do something with it that would shake things up.

9 - Shaco - Deceive - If a player targets you with an Ability this Night Phase, their target will instead be themself. Only useable on Night 2, Night 4, and Night 6. Night Ability.

I wanted to have a "cooldown" effect here while also letting me have a character reverse the effect of their ability. I don't plan to inform them of what exactly happened, and Shaco will be unaware of attempts made against him. This means that if he has used this ability and Swain tried to use Nevermove on him, it would basically consume a charge from Swain and do nothing, given Swain's ability. Caitlyn would trap herself, etc. Interestingly, if Zilean Time Warps a Shaco that Deceives, Zilean will Time Warp himself. My intended result is to make Zilean's next Time Warp attempt be delayed itself by a day (meaning two Time Warps might happen on the same night. That could get really wibbly, but let's see what happens).

10 - Viktor - Death Ray - You fire a beam across the town, causing all players performing a Night Action to have +1 added to any vote totals made against them the next Day Phase unless that total is 0 before modifiers. If you wish, you may Augment: Death this Ability, killing target player but losing the Death Ray Ability. Night Ability.

I really wanted to try to do something with Viktor to let him have a weaker effect with the option to Augment it for a stronger effect that would leave him with no ability afterwords. I want a choice to be made while having a worthwhile, but not abuseable, effect. Here's hoping I pulled it off.

The three characters that will be mafia will be decided by the roll of a ten side dice...

Soraka got the first roll. I can't say I'm exstatic as the ability is weaker for the mafia to use, but at the same time it makes the perfect red herring that can save a mafia member from a Lynch. She could use it, then self reveal as Soraka to then try to bait protection roles into watching her and thus letting the mafia do as they wish, because hey, Soraka couldn't possibly be mafia, right?

Swain got the next roll. This one sounds largely predictable but that's how the roll went.

Caitlyn actually got the final roll, funny enough. I didn't plan that, though I did hope. So 1, 4, 5 were how the rolls went. I won't lie, I'm very annoyed that Warwick didn't get a Mafia roll this time. I wanted to see it used in a way that let the mafia try to pinpoint out certain targets if the town failed.

Now to roll and see which players will get which characters. I'm going to do this by taking each player in the order they signed up and roll the ten sider and see what character they get.

First off we have Kaden, who will be playing the part of *rolls* Caitlyn. That's quite interesting, though I'm glad that the role went to someone who can put on a great facade and abuse the fact that people will, no matter how many times I warn them not to, assume that Caitlyn is a "Sheriff investigate town" role.

Second we have John Doe, who will be giving a lovely rendition of *rolls die* LeBlanc. I honestly don't know how that will go. Ok, actually, thinking on it, there is no player in the history of mafia more hated than John Doe. So it guarantees that some unfortunate bastard (mafia or town) will die as a result of everyone trying to off him immediately. And then when they realize he was LB, they'll likely STILL try to go all out to kill him because "LB has to be mafia! She's evil!"

Third we get Tyr who will fulfill the role of *rolls* our evil Soraka. To be honest, I'm not sure how this will go as I don't think this role, when put in the context that its in, is something that will fit what his playstyle seems to be but its also great to get someone to surprise me.

Fourth is Vad. Vad will be attempting *role* Viktor. Um... I don't actually have an opinion here one way or the other.

Five is Rafael, getting *roll* (Getting a 5, I reroll as Cait is taken) (and then reroll again as Soraka is taken) Shaco. I'm not sure this is the type of character for him to enjoy but then again, this character is kind of wild. Who knows.

Six is Mal Nova, who will NOT be playing the part of Twisted Fate this time. Instead, we will see him coming out as *roll* (getting Viktor, I roll again) (roll again due to Swain) Zilean. Ok, I... am very hesitant on this one. Maybe he'll enjoy it and this character will change the way the game is played without breaking it. Maybe it will do relatively nothing. I will have to see. Its a weird character.

Seven comes to Rose, rocking out with *roll* (9 is... Shaco. Rerolling) (0 was Viktor, so again) (another 9...) (7 = LeBlanc, another try) (and 3 is Zilean, but there are only 4 roles left to be, so I expect to reroll a lot) Warwick. Yeah, that Warwick.

Eight is mate, I mean Teemer. Teemer is stuck with either (6) Nidalee, (8) Fizz, or... I screwed up count somewhere, dammit. Ok, Swain was not used and I thought it was, so there's the chance of (4) Swain. *rolls* (5 is Cait, trying again) (2 is WW, trying again) (1 is Soraka, again) (another 5) (another 2, wtf) The dice hits something, flies across the desk and ultimately comes to a stop at a 6, being Nidalee.

Nine is Waffuru Time. Ok, there are two people left, Fizz and Swain. I'm just going to flip a coin now and here's hopin git lands on Fizz for Waff, but fair is fair. *flip for heads being Fizz, tails being Swain* Heads for the win. He gets to be Fizz.

Which is great because Keiko is newer to the game and at ten gets Swain, which isn't an overly complicated (nor worthless) character. Hopefully it will provide a good intro into this game.

I'm going to now save this and make the announcement of my intended game starting point as well as standard phase change time and try to prepare myself mentally. I think this Thursday at 3am EST, 12am PST is the fairest. I would start at Friday but I am off on Friday (as well as this weekend) and would like as much time as I can to try to deal with the intitial flow. I need to grab another notebook from the store before the game starts anyway for notekeeping. 3am is the best time, I feel after some thought, as I usually raid till around 2:30am EST and work up till just before raid starts. I really want to run this game but I really have other things to focus on too, but I also know that others will be just as busy if not busier over the course of this game. My full intentions are to give these guys my best focus and provide a game experience worth talking about. Preferably in a good way. Anyway, that's my committment, noting that Sundays are going to be a bit later on updates due to World of Darkness games (but those end around 3:30 or so, depending on how we feel). I'm going to be tired, but let's do this...

Quote:Day One - Friday

I just sent out all of the character sheets as well as the message notifying Tyr, Kaden, and Keiko that they were mafia. I didn't really get to rescan everything to make sure it was as balanced as I could eyeball it, but if things bomb out, there's always another game to tweak things. I'd rather the freedom to experiment and try new things. That said, I hope those are FUN new things, and I hope I didn't lean too heavily in one direction on these abilities.

First PM that I get is from John Doe, telling me that he wants to use his LeBlanc Mirror Image to make Mal Nova his fall guy. Poor Mal.

I'm answering questions for people about minor game rules or their abilities, but I also have Mal now doing like last game and sending me random commentary and stuff like "I target the Mafia's Execution ability!" "You can't do that" "I was just being a smart ass". I can't wade through spam like that and conduct a good game, nor can I risk giving out minor info based on my response to comments about how the game is going, so hopefully my post will reduce that stuff.

So far I've seen Mal, John Doe, Keiko, Tyr, Kaden, Vad, Rose, and Rafael posting. I haven't seen anything from Waffuru or Teemer yet. I think I saw Waff visit the site last night but hopefully he and Teemer are aware that the game is started.

Waffuru made an appearance. At least I know he's aware, but haven't heard from Teemer.

Doe is pretty much making himself obvious by trying his hardest to get people to lynch vote him rather than being subtle. Pretty sure someone will figure he's a sabatuer or something.

Teemer never posts.

I am already annoyed. Seriously, nobody posts a single vote that isn't for Keiko, who, of everyone on the list, with no one having any information, happens to be mafia. And because of Mal starting initiative on that, I have to inform Warwick of this being the case, meaning there will most likely be two mafia by Night Two. At least they have a great time advantage to work around this. But seriously. Again. On her first game too, that's pretty unlucky. I probably should have just not counted any votes put in after the stated time, but I'll have to keep it in mind for consideration for future games. I don't want to have to do something like that, but Doe even blatantly said "wolf wolf" which I interpret to meaning that he was changing his vote in case of a Warwick.

---

Night One - Saturday

Mal has more questions, Waff decides to use his ability, and so does Vad. Kaden messages me to use his ability on Mal Nova, but also to use the mafia execution on John Doe. The irony is that his trap isn't going to gain anything since Mal isn't using his ability (yet) and Mal is going to die due to being John Doe's Mirror Image. Justice!

Day Two - Sunday

Fizz. is. epic. Major success so far. BECAUSE OF FIZZ, WW and Shaco just outted themselves in front of everyone with no info gathering needed. Then people doubt the validity of WW because of his full description of Swain, which was even better. I'll have to see if that doubt follows through, but its created such a clusterfuck of people tripping over each other that I've been having serious giggle fits.

That said, they keep changing their lynch votes to Kaden, which is driving me nuts because I can't stand that they are just, on sheer random chance, guessing mafia targets again. They've swapped back to trying to lynch Keiko.

Tyr is sending me a PM that essentially starts as "I want to use my Wish ability tonight to save Keiko" but then devolves into "but only if Keiko actually gets a full lynch vote and only if it doesn't cause Warwick's ability to gain some other advantage". I can't work within those comments. With abilities, I have to be told "Do or do not". I can't decide for someone if its advantageous.

Tyr hasn't responded to me telling him this. I'm unsure if I should just activate his ability since he's apparently asleep or if I should not activate in case. I can't decide based on what's most helpful, but I don't feel like being blamed if it gets wasted. I think that since he stated at the beginning that he wanted to use Wish to save Keiko, I'm going to just use it if he doesn't say otherwise.

Warwick does not get a Bloodscent update because a player was Lynched, as far as game rules are concerned, but was protected from death by Soraka's Wish.

Night Two - Monday

Teemer wants to drop a trap next to Kaden for Bushwhack. The way this will play out means that if anyone targets Kaden for a Night Ability, I'll tell him "Player A targetted Kaden for a Night Ability". If more people also target him, Teemer will know of each of them. He won't receive character information, just that someone targetted Kaden. If he wants, on Night Three he can use Pounce on any of those characters to have their entire Character Sheet sent to him.

Waffuru, interestingly, named Caitlyn and Miss Fortune for his Playful/Trickster combo. There is no Miss Fortune in this game, but I will be telling Kaden that "Miss Fortune targetted you last Night Phase but someone interfered". I'm curious how Teemer will interpret this if Kaden announces it since Teemer won't have been informed of anyone actually doing that.

I also have already thought of some tweaks I'd like to make to Nidalee to help further and more accurately show the duality of her abilities while not making her only useful in long games, as the number of players in this game is showing it will not be. I'll have to really consider some things on her, though I have some in mind.

I'm curious if Rafael will send in his Deceive action tonight since this is one of the Nights he's allowed to do it. I really hope someone attempts to target him tonight to trigger it.

Vad is Augmenting his Death Ray and hitting Rose, as he puts it, "in his face". He's determined that Rose is a mafia. This is awesome. That said, I really want to better invoke the feeling of Viktor. I'm going to have to tweak his abilities in the future to better pull off my vision of him as a character. Going to have to put a lot of thought into that in the future.

Keiko has decided to use Nevermove and prevent Rafael from using his ability tonight. That said, if Rafael does use his ability, his takes priority and will reflect her Nevermove to Keiko, causing her to essentially just do nothing. I was hoping a better ability was target Shaco, such as watching Vad laser beam himself in the face, but it doesn't even look like (at this moment) Raf is going to even use Deceive tonight. He asked me if it would automatically take effect on Nights 2, 4, and 6, and I had said that I didn't have a big reason for it not to at the time but I also told him I still wanted him to actually tell me he intends to use it. Thinking on it, I do have a few reasons why I would prefer for that not to just be a Triggered Ability based on which Night Phase it is, and thus why I made it a Night Ability and not a Triggered Ability.

I just got notice from Kaden about his Night Ability use and his Execution. I'm really hoping he doesn't target Rose tonight, as that would mean he wasted something twice due to others actions. OH SHIT. He put his Yordle Snap Trap onto Vad, which will prevent Vad from actually shooting Rose with his Death Ray for the kill and also reveal Vad's character name to all players. Oh man, that just changed things a bit. That isn't the most helpful move for Kaden tonight, but he wouldn't know that. Now to check the Execution, but I'm going to laugh if he wasted this ability on Vad and then Executed Rose, when it could have gone down where Vad kills Rose and letting him kill another player. I'm certain that if Rose was killed by a random Death Ray and it wasn't mentioned as a Mafia Execution, then people would probably assume Vad was mafia too since he is the only person gunning for Rose publically.

The Execution is targetting Waffuru. Poor Kaden, Waffuru is dodging that shit and then Kaden gets a message that "Miss Fortune" tried something on him. His foot. He shot himself in it. No one has targetted Kaden himself with an Ability yet, so Teemer's trap isn't going to catch anything either. Yet.

I don't really know what to do here. Going to have to give it a lot of thought. Should I just throw out Posting Rules entirely since they appear to just ruin the game for some people?

Raf sent me a notice to use Deceive.

---

Day Three - Tuesday

This begins interestingly, as no one managed to die the previous Night Phase. Waffuru dodged Kaden's Execute with

Playful/Trickster, and then Kaden received a troll note from Waff that "Miss Fortune tried to target you with an Ability last Night Phase but seemed to happen.... (No further information given)." There was no MF in game for me to say the same from Caitlyn. Also, Kaden's trap caught Vad trying to Death Ray kill Rose, preventing Rose's death while also revealing Vad to be Viktor, also wasting his Augmented shot and causing him to now have no Ability.

Teemer's trap didn't catch anything because no one actually targetted Kaden as a player, as Fizz's Ability names a champion and if those champs exist then they get their troll notes. Keiko tried to Nevermove Rafael as Shaco but he used Deceive, causing Keiko to simply Nevermove herself, accomplishing nothing.

Now to see how the voting goes...

Yeah, its very blatant now that the Posting Rule is killing it for Rose. Definitely might have to just throw those out. Ugh, such mixed receptions, always.

Ok, I'm reading over Kaden's post that was written at the same time as Doe's. Kaden brings up that Doe said he's LB and is bragging about killing Mal and they should look into that. I then get to Doe's post full of "Mal died (HAHAHAHAHA) because they targeted me (LeBlanc, btw)". I got a good laugh out of that succession of events. I have to say, I don't like (from a GM perspective) that Doe is trying to get people to read too far into my roleplay posts again. This is why I haven't even acknowledged characters this time if they weren't directly being publicized, because shit like this is why we can't have nice things. So this time, I have these very bland, rather shitty roleplay events where people don't get the cool factor of being mentioned just for flavor because Doe and others INSIST that each and every in-character event have an actual reflection to something that happened behind the scenes. Honestly, I might just drop the roleplay parts altogether and only summarize what happened. That's not what those parts of the game are intended to be used as.

The interesting part to that whole thing is that Doe's trying to use it to prove that I, as GM, have made public confirmation to make everyone aware that Doe is a townie and it was the mafia trying to kill him. Those roleplays are not made from "the town's perspective". All I said was "the opposing team" went to knock her off, which can apply to anyone. For the sake of the roleplay, that is always more or less how I intend it. Given how LoL works, I can't feasibly say "For some reason the enemy turned on friendly fire and shot their comrade" because while you can do that in Mafia, you can't do that in LoL. I might just start throwing in tons of unrelated characters and unrelated events in the mix as well as events that actually happened and watch people choke on the information trying to make it all logically work when it is just noise.

He uses the same logic to defend that "either Kaden or Vad is definitely mafia", because I worded it as stumbling into the enemy's trap. While the conclusion is accurate in this case, its entirely built on bad logic. I can't say "Viktor stumbled into his ally's trap!" because that is not how the game works. Caitlyn's trap can catch anyone, to include himself if he really wanted to make a name reveal. There's no implication at all that "it only catches mafia members" and it drives me nuts that some people keep trying to make this rule that abilities only work on opposing team members or that my roleplays are 100% historical depictions of, and only of, events that happened and are a GM's subtle way to sneak information out there as a hint drop.

No comment regarding the drama.

Kaden's following post addresses exactly the complaints I'm ranting about in this little dev journal. His post is accurate.

I thought of something I'm going to change for the next game to possibly alleviate this. It will be an experiment but everything I do is a work in progress. Until then, I might just keep my roleplays short and to the point.

Night Three - Wednesday

Tyr sent me a Mafia Execution for Rose.

Teemer said he wants to trap John Doe, informing him about anyone that targets him.

Interestingly, Kaden just sent me a more recent Mafia Execution target for John Doe. As the most recent, Kaden is now the person doing it and the target is now Doe. This will trigger Teemer's trap, letting Teemer get info on Kaden.

And Kaden also wants to use his Cait trap on Teemer. This means Kaden will be publically reveal and be aware of Teemer, and possibly stop his trap that he placed on Doe, which will make him know who Doe gets killed by. I'm unsure how to layer the priorities here, so I'll need to think when I get a chance. Teemer sent his PM first, so I'm tempted to have his take priority, because if Kaden's takes priority, then Teemer's trap gets prevented and Kaden gets the Doe kill with Teemer getting shafted completely. Hmm... Busy with something else at the moment so

I'll have to debate.

Stopping the other person's ability is part of Cait's trap, so having it reveal but not prevent the other ability is picking apart the skill. Teemer submitted first, but I think Kaden's ability, as a skill alone, takes priority here. I hate this interaction.

Posted up the interaction, but interestingly, Waffuru did not use Playful/Trickster tonight. He'd have been screwed if someone targeted him. I was curious what champs he would have named this time.

---

Day Four - Thursday

They pieced together a trickster role being in the game. I'm enjoying these posts at the moment and its like a massive revelation just passed and now all previous information is being re-evaluated.

That said, its now an hour before and discussion seems to have stopped. Counting votes to see what it is at.

That's only two votes. They need 4. They'll discover that Tyr is Mafia, but at the cost of killing someone. Then Kaden kills someone else tonight, dropping it to 6 where they will STILL need 4 votes majority with them trusting Kaden pretty surely. Also, it doesn't help that Teemer didn't post so I will have to put him on Leaver status again.

---

Night Four - Friday

I don't think the remaining mafia are communicating very well. They keep conflicting what their Executes will be.

Tonight, Kaden sent an Execute for Rose, with Tyr sending a new Execute for Rose shortly after, so Tyr will be the one doing it. Rafael used Deceive and I have to admit I hoped someone would have tried to Execute him. Kaden is shutting down Teemer again and that's where I acknowledge the strength of the disable in there that I overlooked part of. I'm going to have to make a tweak to that ability because I don't want someone to be able to completely shut someone out of the game like that and its apparent that Kaden has decided that whatever Nidalee is capable of, he doesn't want any part of it. I don't blame him, but I take full responsiblity for that mistake and will address it if it is used again in any similar form.

---

Day Five - Saturday

I'm a little annoyed that nothing relevant has targetted Rafael all game while he was Deceived. I might rework that ability a bit if I reuse it. I'm definitely tweaking a few others in this game. Now, however, there's some dumb shit on both sides and we get to see who gets more annoyed. Between Fizz being immune to Execute (as long as he keeps sending me names) and Caitlyn shutting a player down (but making himself a bit noticed that way, I think), it might get odd. If they kill Tyr, I see Kaden having a hard time, as he has to get down to one player remaining and while I think Teemer and Rafael might go first, there's a good, GOOD chance that he tries to Execute Rafael on Night Five or Six and getting himself Executed instead while trapping Teemer. I don't think he'll go after Waffuru as he expects him to be Gangplank with some Remove Scurvy ability to keep himself alive. I'm really hoping Rafael survives the night so he can get into Night Six, but that depends on how the town plays this.

I was completely wrong. They aren't even going to TRY to lynch Tyr, which means they lose tonight. No one has even ASKED Kaden why he shut Teemer down two nights in a row. TEEMER didn't even ask about it. The information is out there, but nothing's being exchanged and Kaden and Tyr are now completely in control of the pace of today. I really thought that with Tyr being the Bloodscent last night and suddenly Warwick gets himself Executed that someone would have considered that suspicious, but no, not a bit. Kaden keeping the other investigation role locked down (though unknowingly)? No one says a word, not even the person locked down to even attempt (I don't think he cares at this point). I really hope they get a good lynch tonight, but man, it looks like its over now.

They don't have a majority on anyone. I actually think going a Night Phase where they miss a lynch here (only here) gives them one more day to try for a 3 vote Majority, but some people didn't even vote today. I think the amount of random inactivity during Day Phases has really hurt this game, in that its fairly widespread. Everyone did post today, but we're looking at (an hour and 15 minutes from time) 3 votes against Vad (2 of them engineered by mafia and one of them by Teemer, who isn't at ALL wondering why Kaden has been locking him out of the game every time he could since he found him) and 2 votes (correctly) against Tyr, from Vad and Waffuru. Rafael hasn't voted at all, but I suspect that (since it doesn't look like Teemer will be back today - church is tomorrow and he tends to go to bed early for it) he'll vote Vad if anyone just because Teemer's vote locks them into not being able to majority vote Tyr here, which basically loses the game. Hmm.

---

Night Five - Sunday

So of course, Tyr sends me an Execute for Rafael tonight, when he can't deceive and give the town a way out.

Teemer follows up by putting a trap on Kaden to "see if anyone tries to kill him tonight" while expressing his frustration regarding the direction the game is going. I am blown away, given that he's trying to protect a mafia that's locked him out of his ability for the previous two Night Phases. Waffuru names Shaco and Soraka for his Fizz action, but unfortunately, no one is targetting him so they won't be wasting an ability.

Kaden resends the Execution for Rafael. If only they'd done it last night, the entire game would be different.

Kaden does not use his Snap Trap... but Teemer's trap didn't get triggered because no one targets Kaden.

Day Six - Monday

Amazing. The new day starts, Teemer immediately wants to lynch Vad. Protect the mafia guy, lynch Vad. Kaden apparently has done an amazing job at just getting everyone's complete confidence. I don't think I could have posted an official "reveal" of his faction and had people trust him as much as they have this game. If Teemer won't change his vote, the mafia wins. There is no way out. Even if Waffuru and Vad vote for a mafia, Teemer has to be willing to not dig his heels in. If he keeps insisting that Vad is mafia, the two mafia can vote with him and get majority, winning the game.

Immediate two following votes are from the mafia to Lynch Vad. There's no way anyone's going to convince Teemer to change his vote and I suspect that instead of trying, Vad is going to just sink and vote himself or something. I hope not. Waff will remain defiant to the end.

Vad actually voted back at Teemer, but Teemer didn't change his vote. He was that confident that Vad was mafia, though I suspect he's going to pass it off as "just didn't care and thought it'd be funny". No idea, but that seals it, grats to Kaden and Tyr. I think Kaden's the only person in this site that can repeatedly be mafia and repeatedly even get caught lying in previous games and no one EVER be willing to voice anything close to a suspicion but instead voting for who he tells to. I think Waffuru is the only person who I have noticed call him on things, but that said, I think this game will set a new impact and people might turn Kaden into the next John Doe - kill him immediately every game no matter what. Haha.

Pft, the different execution tells was probably just us changing our minds. Better than to have send in an Execution call then change it than none at all!

Also, Soraka!

Didn't read all that, but yeah. As soon as I got the report that Tyr was mafia, I figured "I'll probably die tonight." Of course, then I had to bite my lip for the rest of the game =P

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm sorry for making you change the RP stuff, even though that was sorta what I was going for. I remembered how annoyed you were the last time when we did that, so I played off it. I considered it a "victory" if I was executed instead of, well, any other townie. So I pushed buttons (the Mafia's, and the GM's as a means to an end).

You were totally right about everyone hating me, btw. If I didn't get LeBlanc and I wasn't Mafia, I would have died Night 1 regardless. I'm so sure of it. Just in case, I made even more of an incentive to get me killed. Even if there wasn't a WW in game, there had to be SOME kind of investigative role on the townie's side (which turned out to be a completely false assumption on my part, and I'll get to that later) so turning myself into the target was a good way to ensure that whoever that was would live. I know you might be thinking "But Doe, what if Mal was an investigative role?" My answer is thus: "So?" I consider this a victory for John Doe, regardless of the alignment who won. There was only one goal I had, and that was to get Mal killed. So I won! (In seriousness, though, I was playing to win for the town, regardless of how stupid I act or am)

As much as I planned to get myself killed, I was really upset that the fourth day resulted in a no lynch. That was exactly what the Mafia wanted and the Town played into their hands. From there, the Town basically just let themselves lose. Kaden played very well, as per usual, but even so I was biting my tongue til it bled as the days went by.

I do want to defend my choice on Kaden and Vad being mafia or not. My choices on these two I think were justified, even without the bullshit stuff I spouted about the RP flavor. Kaden, as I said before, was quite hesitant to lynch Keiko, as much as he denied it, and that he was willing to sacrifice Vad to let Keiko live a little longer (so that meant one of them had to be Mafia, and it couldn't be both). Vad was Vad, and I don't think I have to say much more than that to be suspicious of him.

In hindsight, I should have just been satisfied with being my typical annoying self instead of adding the GM RP bullshit to help me get executed. I did end up pressing the right buttons, but I totally could have gotten killed without resorting to such tactics. As well, as I thought about it, I knew Kaden would argue that the RPs were just flavor which would actually give him ground to stand on, but I was too lazy to change how I wrote my post. And THAT reminds me that I need to work on how I get my points across.

As to how you assigned the roles, I guess you did say that they were an experiment. When I read that part of your recap post, I cringed. It made me angry that roles could even be divvied that way. I won't say that it was skewed or any bullshit like that, but I do not think that you can throw any role onto any faction and call it a day. As I've said time and time again in previous games, the "Grandma with Shotgun" should NOT be a Mafia sided role, based on risk assessment and game balance. The reason being that it gives Mafia an unneeded advantage they already have. When GwS is on the town side, ANYONE can fall victim to her, be it Town or Mafia or Other. When it is aligned with the Mafia, only Town and Other can be affected. It is true that Mafia is supposed to have the upper hand by default, but when they hold all the cards, that's when it comes down to blind luck for any other faction to win. I know that the GwS role wasn't included in this game, but my point was that roles with abilities need to be planned in this type of game and can't randomly be plucked out of a hat.

Last note, what was the posting rules? Mal was time and Rose was nose, I got those. Were there any others?

I agree with Doe on the whole role giving part, but considering we were only 10 and we all had special abilities, I think the favor would be skewed regardless and at least this way, it would be random in which way it was skewed.

I also find it funny how Vad keeps getting kill roles.

they weren't. That was the problem. If he had said anything at all to defend himself earlier in the game, I might have changed my mind.

Still wouldn't have mattered. On the last day we would have just gone with Vad and voted for Teemer or cause a stalemate and win the Execute + Trap on Teemer.

By the time it got to that point, we had the game on lock and even before then we were able to stall the game a day just by messing around with votes.

I defended myself at one point. Several times. I told you to reconsider targeting me. That it would be a blow for the townspeople.

Doe cost us the game<_< >_>

By Day 3 it would have all came obvious.

Most experienced mafia players should already know that Mafia members will try to eliminate the strongest or extremely lucky [players as soon as possible. After my first game and watching the PokeMafia game, it is easily clear that you'd be one of their first targets. Unless of course you are Mafia.

Doe being one of the more active players would also be a target, though some people would assume that while Mafia could assume this and think that there may be some protection role and a protector might go ahead and try to defend them unless it's limited.

Still though, Mafia would most likely still aim for you guys in attempt to go ahead and see what the protection role might unveil as far as info for themselves.

I assume you targeted me in an even similar reasoning on night one with your trap because you had some gut hint that I'd be one of the first to use an ability if I had one and you'd want to learn what it was. I mean we know how much patience I have and how much of a lose cannon I can be.

Thing is I wasn't gonna use the Time Warp on Night one. Though I thought about blowing a charge thoguh I'd risk it being irrelevant and shooting in the wind just didn't seem smart. at the time.

I even had an idea of around day 3, blowing both charges if I made it that long but was informed by Ashe that I couldn't use them both on the same phase. Thing is I realized and even clarified that I hade one of the most insane and maniacal abilities in the game and I could really hurt the Town had I used them incorrectly.
