The RIOT Act
Vad Wrote:Krig. You just come off like an asshole sometimes. Turk does, but he then follows up with "I love you Zulenka." So I know he's kidding most of the time.
I kid all the time! I never go "just kidding" because I am always kidding if it's some extraordinary way of insulting.

Like, I call (all male people) cunts at least once a day I talk to them because it makes them feel appreciated and manly that they can take such harsh verbal assaults without shedding tears. I don't literally mean they are an orifice capable of the most wonderful and horrific displays known to man.

Yeah I can never decide whether people need to just grow somewhat thicker skin or tone down the bitching because half of these situations I'm never there, but I think there's probably something to be said for both.

As an aside, that's why when I have a problem with the way someone's acting you'll usually hear me say it right there in the game, usually just "chill out."

I generally have one mode: "playing to win, but not being a dick about it". Like Trygelan I don't see why you would play a game like LoL and not try to use everything you can, that's why I generally don't play ARAM and shit like that because it just takes away the strategy of LoL and makes it a kinda boring game. There are much better games for just hitting things and not worrying too much than League of Legends, and if I feel like that kind of game I will usually just go play those! (lately Spiral Knights - it is awesome and yall should play it) At the same time when we're obviously not winning, it is utterly pointless to get into arguments, and probably better to just focus on your own game. 'Constructive criticism' is all well and good, if you can do it - most people just express their thoughts as frustration, particularly in the middle of a heated game.

Also, regardless of whether we're obviously not winning or not, keep in mind what Tryg said - one person's feeling of what's fun or not does not supersede the 3-4 others playing. If one decides to put a surrender vote forth and it doesn't pass, don't spend the next 5 minutes bitching about it until that person can put the next one forth. To then bitch about why everyone isn't clicking yes until the NEXT 5 minutes pass to vote again. I don't care if someone wants to put forth a vote, even on the second of each allowed vote cast. But don't get pissy and start lashing out or whining if everyone didn't vote the way that person wanted. I don't even care if someone says "K, whatever, its obviously over but fine" and then lets it go, because I (and most of us) do the same thing when a surrender vote DOES go through when I feel I'm finally starting to get somewhere "Really? I'm finally getting some kind of gear on Jax and we call the early game? Ugh".

Move. On.

And I don't mean move on by disconnecting over the vote not going a particular way either, taking precedence over the 3-4 other people and making the call for them in the end.

I think we obviously just have people of varying levels of skill and competitiveness and if there is a mismatch in team skill then maybe you shouldn't be playing together. I know I don't have any interest in playing if I'm not having fun. Entertainment is really all I can/want to get out of this since they won't pay me to just sit around and play all day. I'd way rather surrender games that go like shit in the first 30 minutes even if it's possible to maybe grind out an amazing comeback in 90 minutes.

I have to disagree that if someone is not having fun they have to suck it up to appease everyone else. You might stick it out for a few extra minutes because the game can turn around but if I'm going to just get bullshit instakill permastunlocked to death and feed kills I am better off just dancing in the fountain if everyone else wants to play 4v5. I don't like most of you well enough to put you ahead of myself. =(

What Waff said. I only have a couple hours in an evening free time. If I'm not having fun, and we're OBVIOUSLY losing over 35 minutes into the game - ie their towers are all up, we're pushed to inhibitors and dying repeatedly - I'm gonna ultimately quit if we don't surrender, for the simple reason that I'm not going to get stressed out and waste what precious little free time I have doing something that I really don't want to be doing.

That's why when I'm playing with friends and don't want to surrender, I'll usually concede after a couple of votes because I don't want to be a dick to two of my friends when they're not having fun. If I'm ignoring someone else's enjoyment then I have no right to chastise them for ignoring mine. Being a good sport is a two-way street.

tl;dr: use your common sense and don't be a dick.

I've come back multiple times from all towers pushed up and all inhibitors pushed in. Good times.

Sure, and I've squeaked out a lucky draw after dropping a free rook in Chess.

There are two categories:

1) Losing games, but not lost. Good defensive play and awareness can turn things around. These are the good ones to play out.

You might not win these, but they can be ideal learning experiences, of grinding down every minor advantage into a tangible gain, and doing everything possible to minimize your disadvantages. And hell, you'll win some.

2) Lost games. Stomped every teamfight, taking turrets at will, full control over baron. These are the ones you surrender.

Yes, you CAN win those in category 2. Everyone has their favorite anecdote (usually including just how crucial they were to their team's win). But crossing your fingers that your opponent will make an extremely stupid blunder is neither instructive nor fun.

I don't consider it a dick move for four people to vote that they still wish to continue the game if the fifth has built a reputation of trying to surrender that game on a regular basis. We're going to just take two completely different stances here, where one side feels that the guy who decides to be a Leaver because they didn't get their way is the dick, and the other side feels that everyone else not doing what they want them to do is a dick.

To me, it all boils down to the fact that its a team game. If someone can't be a team player, then they shouldn't play the game. This isn't the type of game for someone to be selfish and screw over the rest of the group. I'd report pugs for being a dick and rage quitting, and I'm not going to make special exceptions just for knowing the name of the person doing the same. I'd rather just not play with those people at all, if those are my options.

EDIT: The stance that "Everyone forcing me to play is being a selfish dick, if I clearly don't want to" comes to me as it simply being the type of game that person should not be playing. If you are clearly having no fun with a particular group on a regular basis and feel "forced" to play games you don't want to, then simply finish that game and say "I'm not playing another. Later all."

EDIT2: None of this is addressing actual full surrender votes and attempts, btw. I'm referring to specifically the "Surrender or I afk/Leave" thought process. If a surrender reaches majority, then that's just how it goes and I have to get over it because of the majority rule.

Solution to have anything work in melee combat (male edition):

1. Hit them in the nuts.

2. Hit yourself in the nuts and make the inhuman squeal terror away your enemies.

Anyway, two delayed patches in a row. Happened with both DotA 2 and LoL.

I remember a few years ago when I was training in a self-defense seminar with my boxing coach's friend a japanese jiu-jitsu sensei, we were being taught how to defend ourselves on the street against 2 or more people. This led to a session of 1v3 "sparring" which is really just 3 people beating on one person. Anyway, in the heat of all of this, the jiu-jitsu sensei uppercutted me in the groin... Not a good experience, even though I was wearing cup it hurt like shit.
