Trials of Blood (Sword's Honor Trilogy - Kickstarter)

Let me begin by saying, many of you don’t know me, but I’ve been here for a very long time. I was Vegeta when Chubbs first came into existence back in 2001, and carried the name for many years. After joining the U.S. Marines in 2004, my time towards Roleplaying became very slim, so eventually I had to retire the character. I’ve always stuck around though, enjoying the occasional drop in to see what kind of hysteria is brewing up around here. But I digress. This post is about sharing a project with you all that I’ve been working on.

In 2001, I created a play by post RPG called Sword’s Honor which ran side by side with Chubbs, with much of the player base being shared between the two. In 2005, it took a face lift to become Sword’s Honor: Another Era. It didn’t see the same success as Chubbs has had, but lived a very healthy life nonetheless. A few years ago it ended up going stale, with very few people still Roleplaying in the forums.

In Nov 2011, I completed my contract with the Marines and decided to pursue what I’ve always wanted to: Game Development and Writing. My brothers and I are currently developing a few games for mobile devices, and in the mean time, I’ve been writing my first Novel. The Novel is the first part of a Fantasy Trilogy series, based in the world of Sword’s Honor, and meant to continue the spirit of the game, enabling it to live on.

The first novel in the series, Trials of Blood, is just about complete, standing at over 100,000 words and I have been seeking the self-publishing route in order to maintain the story and characters that the Novel was intended to have. I didn’t want outside sources to mess with the story or history that Sword’s Honor currently holds.

I have placed up a project with Kickstarter, seeing their recent success, and have placed up a variety of rewards for people who wish to pledge money towards the project. Some rewards include: eBook version, signed Paperback edition, naming a city in future books, creating your own Character that shows up in future books, and even prints of the book’s cover art, which if the project reaches the funds requested, will be created by Mike “Daarken” Lim. Daarken is a renowned Fantasy/Game Industry artist with quite a large and impressive portfolio under his belt, having worked with some of the largest names in the industry. I loosely followed both Sword's Honor websites, I never wrote on them because I was smart enough to know I'm not so great at balancing multiple characters. I also share the dream of finishing my novel, so it's cool to see a former Chubbsian reach the mountaintop. If I manage to come across some money I can spare, I'll try and throw some your way.

Congrats dude. Out of curiosity, did you write 100,000 words between now and when you left the army (Nov '11)?

Android 17: I wouldn't say Mountaintop just yet. But I'm definitely aiming there, and maybe even higher. I figured why not push my limits and see what I can do. So far it's looking good, so why not push a little harder. Thanks though, it's much appreciated.

The LDKs do show up in this Trilogy though, and of course, show off their skills. UAY!!!

Orion: I actually wrote the 100,000 words in about 2 months. I started writing towards the end of January. I usually do about 5000 words a day, typing from Mon - Fri, with the occasionally few days off when I'm working on Artwork for our mobile games or when I'm watching the kids or something. It usually takes a toll on my brain, turning it into mush, so the breaks do help rejuvenate me.

Thank you. I think I developed the work ethic over the span of my Marine Corps career lol, they made sure of it.

Yeah I remember Swords of Honor lol. I just never got the chance to RP over there. Fortunately I did get a chance to RP with you when I was Bulma, briefly during DA.

I admire the hard work you've placed into this novel in just a short time. Then again, I'd expect nothing less from a Marine. Kudos.

Thanks guys. I do appreciate the support. Trying to "Kickstart" this project is the first option I chose for this book. If it doesn't meet the goal, I will proceed to the second, which will be to pitch it to different agents who might be interested. I know it's hard to get published, but you never know. Should that not work after some time, then I'll proceed to the third option, which would be another form of self-publishing but for much cheaper.
