heh, pretty sure 'don't play/watch/eat/etc it' can be said to many of the things people say in this thread. Seems kinda redundant, doesn't it?

You know perfectly well no one is allowed to have a difference of opinion.

To clarify, I don't care about TES online in and of itself so much as what it means; the death of TES as I know it. If Online is even moderately successful, which it likely will be, I don't see there being another game like the series has been so far where you can reasonably play alone. TES is rare, MMOs are not.

Very cool. A ship of the same name was originally a steam warship in the 1800's.

Pinky Wrote:I thought that the missing part of TES was the lack of multiplayer. I'm more concerned with the way it will play, most popular MMO's use point/click and autotarget to reduce lag issues. If TES keeps going toward more realism it could be a problem -- good luck using a bow and arrow with a .5 second delay as your system contacts the server.

I don't think there'd be any real latency issue. If Battlefield 3 and CoD can be seamless with 16+ players, I'm certain TES could work out an economical solution. [EDIT: Unless you mean 'Skyrim gameplay in MMO form'. Then yeah. No clue how they'd do that.

I would definitely like to see a multiplayer component to a 'core' TES game (an MMO doesn't count), but I'm guessing we won't see one that's got any substance. As awesome as TES is for their big-budget production values and shit, it also acts as an inhibitor on any innovation. Skyrim didn't really innovate over the core engine, beyond a neat tweak to the magic system (which was desperately needed). All of the new things it implemented (some of which were pretty damn elaborate, such as the dynamic spawning and interactions of dragons in an open world environment) were essentially improvements on what they've done in the series before.

What I'd REALLY like to see is Bethesda releasing a truly significant API for their product that supports the generation of more substantial user content. Like a multiplayer system. I'd also like to see a license that allows the creators of these modules to charge (thereby encouraging the people who have actual talent to sit down and hammer out all of the concerns of getting a multiplayer system to work). Definitely can't fault them for the Creation Kit (which is more access than most game studios ever provide), but I want more.

Actually, I doubt 'Don't play/watch/eat/etc' could be applied to most posts in this topic, as that only applies to people who complain about something prior to actually experiencing the thing. Most Like/Hate posts, in my experience, regard a 'hindsight' evaluation; a complaint/praise occurring after something has been experienced.

Fundamentally, I'm criticizing something in Maruset's post that I think is irrational, and nevertheless pervades the gaming community: an absurd sense of entitlement. No one is being forced to play these games. Personally, I'm interested in seeing what Bethesda will bring to the table for an MMO. They certainly have the resources to make something brilliant, and the TES lore is fascinating in itself. If you don't find this interesting, that's perfectly fine, but it seems to be a strange foundation for complaining about it. You aren't entitled to have everything Bethesda releases tailor-made to your personal preference. To complain about a to-be release when you haven't experienced it (and apparently have no intent on experiencing it) is absurd.

Like having a cookout and my ex shows up with a guy who behaves like an ass after finding out I used to be her guy.

Hate having to in turn act like an ass and toss him and her out.

I do agree with Maruset in the sense that it makes me sad given there may not be another TES game. Same reason WoW pisses me off.

They make far too much money on console releases of TES to ignore it for the sake of an online release. No reason they can't do a standard, non-networked game AND an online game.

Again. You underestimate the sheer stupidity the gaming industry can produce. Especially companies that delve into the MMO business.
