Like: going out to see Avengers for our three year anniversary.
Score.
Man alone measures time.
Man alone chimes the hour.
And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

That's all fine and dandy, but number 2 can have devastating effects on development. Especially if the company values money over the quality of their product. I'll admit it will pleasantly surprise me if both console and MMO releases continue to shine with TES quality, but I can almost guarantee one will suffer.

The Warcraft RTS games were successful and made lots of money.
They still don't make them anymore.
Edit: Although I guess, if I want to be Devil's Advocate for my own input, the Elder Scrolls universe is kind of... vague. They have all those continents that I still feel I don't know fuck-all about.

Why? What's your reason for believing that? What's your argument?
EDIT: So everyone's clear, ZeniMax is developing the game. Bethesda Softworks is just publishing.

Well, if they're making another bog-standard Fantasy MMO then they are going to have to pull off some really creative stuff. It is already a super competitive market, and by the sounds of it the TES MMO is not going to have quite a few of the things that makes TES games so popular to begin with, so they wont have that factoring in too much.
They either need to pull in numbers and get them to stick around, or it's just going to bomb out like Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, etc etc all did.
And the reason why I am not expecting some creative stuff is because this industry is playing way to safe right now when it comes to AAA games. If you don't have a stranglehold on your fanbase already, you really can't afford to stray too far from the formuli that are known to work, that's just how it goes.
And since companies like money... They typically play it safe. That's just how I see any TES MMO working out. It'll be safe, it'll make some money, and then regress to a low-playerbase MMO like 90% of the rest of the MMOs that have come out recently. Not worth my time to look into, in the end.
That's not to say some of us here wont enjoy it, of course, but I am not expecting much at all.

it's not that bliz doesn't make them anymore, they just don't compete with their own products. sc2 is their current RTS flagship, and will likely continue to be for years to come, so why combat that success? warcraft is currently the world leader MMO so they'll just keep tacking onto it with expansions. and diablo3 will be their dungeon crawler.

Pretty much this. Might we see WC4 in the future? Maybe, but probably not until WoW reaches a point where an RTS campaign can fit into the lore.

I'm just derailing your statements about success and how it'll without a doubt succeed. My reason is that I've been a member of the MMO industry as a gamer for nearly 8 years. I've watched it evolve from what it used to be into what it is now and that is where I'm basing my argument.
I don't know if you have any idea the kind of mob MMO gamers are now adays, but the League of Legends forums barely scratch the surface. I wish I could mentally give you all the shit I read on the forums during the SWTOR beta and the 2 week period between opening and early game play. It's enough to boggle your mind. Too bad they wiped the forums.
As for your edit, ZeniMax owns Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda is a subsidiary of ZeniMax.

You've completely misread my posts, then. The guaranteed success I'm referring to are the console, non-MMO TES games that are released every 5-7 years. Not an MMO. I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would try making an MMO.
Quote:As for your edit, ZeniMax owns Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda is a subsidiary of ZeniMax.
When someone refers to Bethesda publishing a game, they're referring to Bethesda Softworks (which encompasses the overarching, publishing component of the company). When someone refers to Bethesda developing a game, they're referring to Bethesda Game Studios, the more prominently known 'game-dev' component of the company.
When someone refers to ZeniMax publishing a game, they're referring to the overarching company that 'owns' numerous other companies, including Bethesda Softworks and id Software. When someone refers to ZeniMax developing an MMO game, they're referring to ZeniMax Online Studios, the 'MMO game-dev' component of the company.
My point is, Bethesda Game Studios and ZeniMax Online Studios are two different studios. ZeniMax Online Studios is making an MMO. This does not in any way restrict the time Bethesda has to create a non-MMO TES release (or Fallout, or whatever their next project is. I'm guessing Fallout).
