So I watched Black Rock Shooter up to episode 7 yesterday (which is caught up to the present) and I'm pleasantly surprised by how good it is. I was very hesitant about watching it because I saw the OVA like forever ago and it was "meh" at best. BRS: the series is like my iDOLM@STER from last year. Which is to say, it's my "I'm glad I decided to watch it" series.

Finished watching Another and Chihayafuru tonight. Both were really well done and worth watching.
(WARNING, might be spoilers for Another below, but very mild ones.)

Another:
Not really a horror anime, at least for the first 10 episodes, more of a mystery one. Still damn good though.
The character development of Kouchi and Mei throughout the entire series was really well done I think. Probably my favorite thing of the whole series their progress from just meeting, to fellow outcasts, to friends and beyond.
The ending did throw me off, but there was enough foreshadowing that if I really analyzed each episode I probably would have picked up on it. But I only watched each episode once, and didn't really go over anything after watching it.
Chihayafuru:
If this doesn't get a second season, I'm going to be insanely mad. I'll punch a kitten or something.
I absolutely loved this show. Every single episode felt incredibly well done. I don't really have much else to say about this one, just go watch it. Seriously. Now.

Chihayafuru wont have a second season til the manga has continued on long enough for there to be content for a second season.

So, Spring 2012 "started" yesterday. Anything to look forward to?

I'm staring at Sakamichi no Apollon. I heard the director and composer behind Cowboy Bebop are behind Apollon too, and I have a platinum hard boner for Bebop.

My platinum boner was more than justified, and it still has another 5 episodes left. If you haven't picked up the series yet, I highly encourage you to do so. You're doing yourself a disservice by not watching it. Also Tsuritama and Hyouka. All of those series are rather "slow" just as a heads up. Jormungand is not slow at all in case Fate/Zero isn't enough action for ya.

Haven't been into anime in years. I only read a couple of different manga now because they started when I used to care about those. Most of the new stuff is purposefully stale, which is how Japan likes it, but what little novelty exists isn't really novel anymore. It's like J-hipsters took over the entire (tiny) niche market and they're trying to recapture the magic of the late 90's... but it hasn't been the 90's for well over a decade already.

What would be worth watching that hasn't been done the death over the last twenty years? I can only think of rotoscoping but don't know any anime that does that. In case anyone is unfamiliar with the term, rotoscope is when you film live actors and copy their movements frame by frame into animations. It gives a surreal appearance that isn't possible with pure drawing. Haven't seen it done since the 80's, probly because it's so expensive and most people don't care.

So I've got a whole lot of no-life coming in about twenty days and while I'm stocked up on "real" TV shows for a while, I heard a song that pumped me up for some anime fun. Is there anything nice to watch with some spectacular fighting/decent+ that someone could suggest me?

Animes I've liked to watch:
Claymore
Naruto (though I take breaks from that like nobody's business)
Bleach (^)
Darker than Black (Season 1 only, though)

... and I forgot the rest. I'll include them if I remember. I'm terrible at keeping up with upcoming animes so help would be very much appreciated!

I started watching One Piece because I was told it's amazing and I needed something ridiculously long so I can always have another episode lined up for when I'm eating or whatever. The fights are interesting, the characters are awesome (they're like, ALL my favourite) and it's genuinely funny. It starts out slow but it gets awesome (I agree with the recommendation that you should watch up to the end of the Arlong arc, about episode 44, and if you're not enjoying it then, feel free to quit).

The tone is a lot lighter than the others (in fact, it regularly takes the piss out of itself and anime in general) and you'll rarely see someone die even if they get like, stabbed through the chest, but I still always wanna know what happens next.

Hajime no Ippo. BOXIN! Punching people in the face has never looked so pretty.

Fairy Tail. I haven't watched it yet, but if it's anything like the manga, Fairy Tail should provide plenty of entertaining actionness.

Ben-To. Street fights in convenience stores for half off bentos. I need not say more.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It's got all the things you'd want in an anime.

I recommend One Piece. Fucking Whitebeard arc man, that was the shiz.

I've watched and can highly recommend all of those except Fairy Tail (but that's made by the same guy as One Piece so I can pretty much highly recommend it on that basis alone). Brotherhood is perhaps my favourite anime ever, and Hajime No Ippo I have been waiting for more episodes of since ... forever.

I'm on ep 172 of One Piece right now. The fights for this arc have finally begun >=D

Aw man itsa Skypiea. That final fight is bitchin'.

It ain't got nothin' on the next major arc, tho'. It's not even fair, because Water 7, and everything that comes with it, kicks the Alubarna and Arlong Park arcs right in the TEETH.

Oh yeah I watched Fairy Tail, nice fights but the essence of it bugged me somehow. Always been meaning to watch FMA: Brotherhood, so I guess I'll look it up. What's the difference between Brotherhood and the ordinary one?

The first FMA anime only followed the manga up until the first few chapters, eventually breaking off into something different around episode 25. Brotherhood is based directly off the manga. Brotherhood is also better in just about every way to the first anime.

FMA Brotherhood is like DB Kai, the anime remade strictly from the manga with no bullshit filler. There's a few seasons up on Netflix.

edit, maybe i should read the whole thread before posting.
