Hate: worst week of work ever. I came very, very close to throwing it all in and only didn't because I don't want to throw away a potential reference when I don't have many.
Like: it's over.
Double like: it motivated me to find a better job, and I found one (involving writing and design) which would be fucking awesome and pays about as much per week for about 2/3 of the hours, and I spent about 3 hours writing an application for it earlier this week. Today I got an invitation to an interview next week.

Bad part: it's during my current working hours. I'm wondering whether I should try and get them to give me a day off saying I have an important appointment or whatever (normally gotta book holidays over a week in advance) or just call in a sickie. Really better to do the former, but it'll be super sketchy if they turn me down and then I call in the sickie on the day I wanted off.

Personally I'd do a sickie. They don't have to know that the sick day is when you had your interview if you land the job.

EDIT: I did something similar to get out of my last job, although probably not as sketchy. I had to work a public holiday (again) and I got the boss to give me the morning off on the day I had my interview for my current job.

Them finding out you had an appointment and called in sick (if they find out at all) isn't as bad as you not getting the day off approved and then just calling in sick anyway (which they will immediately know).

Thanks for the chime-in guys. Like I say, I'm mainly worried about getting a good reference from my current employer and worried that taking a sick day before leaving might hurt the chance of that, but it is probably much better to do it this way. If I asked for the day off with an 'appointment' excuse they'd probably try to make me come in and do a half-day anyway (sometimes they ask this if you call in a sick day too, which is massively cheeky but they can't force you to do it when you say you're sick), then I'd have to awkwardly explain some reason I can't or otherwise rush home to change out out of suit and tie into the type of clothes I wear to my current job, then back into town.
