Just for fun (PARTICIPATE, FOOLS)
#1
It appears that I do not have the ability to make a poll, so we gon' hafta do this manually, yo.

If someone were to, say, make a new hubb, what would people most want to play?

Quote:1.) DBZ Hubb (new game mechanics, both canon and custom characters)

2.) Non-DBZ Hubb (basically, anything else but a DBZ Hubb)

3.) No new Hubb; I'll stick with Chubbs

4.) I don't want to play anything, OOC 4 LYFE

If enough people participate, there may be a sequel manual poll depending on the results. This is not a debate; it's as simple as pick a number 1-4.

BEGIN.

My real answer is "anything." It's like "I don't care," but more agreeable.

However, since I'm forced to pick a number, I guess 1.

Numero Uno. What type of hubb though? Could it be a nicely organized hubb where you can see where you post? harharharharhar

I voted two for the sake of an exciting poll, although I'm up for both 1 and 2.

Hubb? New game mechanics? Canon and customs? Bah, it's getting way too convoluted! I was a member of this RPG for a long time but it lost its it factor when it lost its member base, and it lost a large chunk of that member base when it lost its canons. I understand why some people enjoy customs, and some people have taken a lot of time to make their customs theirs, I'm sure, but I took a lot of time to make my canon mine back in the day and I've never really found another RPG that I've been able to do the same on since then. The XP system was alright for a little while, but I think that everything turned into a systematic complication. I know no one can code our old power level calculator, but man, that thing was the shit.

I'd probably only rejoin Chubbs if I could play as a canon again, but it would take a Pulp Fiction-esque shot of adrenaline right into the heart of Chubbs to bring the life back into this RPG that it used to have. The times, they are a-changin'! These are the days of overly self-indulgent romance RPGs with loose and interchangeable themes pulled from the week's craze on television. Where combat and competitive writing are lost to a pretentious audience who wants to roleplay posts and posts of dialogue with brief, predictable action in between to punctuate it.

I don't think it's the ideas that are the problem anymore, I think the problem is obvious if you surf any RPG currently experiencing popularity.

That being said I'd give this RPG a shot again if we can get some good ol' fashion competitive combat based roleplaying. My favorite moments on this site were always without question the fights to the death with a judge coming in at the end. That's the only thing that set this RPG apart from any other.

Are you the same Selipa that tried coming on to Bardock when you first joined because you were following anime canon? Wink

You make a couple of fair points. That aside, I want to be as forthcoming as possible about my intentions, and be as clear as I can:

This is not about reviving Chubbs, recreating Chubbs, or in any way trying to recapture an era in which Chubbs was awesome for people. That's like wishing you were still back in high school after you've graduated. This is about doing something entirely separate, a project in which I will have full creative control, and gauging the interest of anybody who would like to participate from purely a player capacity in said project. If every single person who still visits this board said they weren't down for that, then that's okay. But I wanted to at least put the opportunity on the table in case anybody was looking for something different other than what is currently happening or what has happened in the past with Chubbs.

I asked because part of the entertainment in writing is not what you're writing but who you're writing it with, and I know that this place has a good collection of talented writers so it's a great starting point to try and build something fun to play.

Having said that, I would like for this thread to remain on the topic of the poll, of simply picking a number and feeling free to share which number you picked, and not a platform for what makes an RPG succeed or fail.

I definitely appreciate the participation in the thread so far. You guys are awesome.

Thankyoucomeagain.

Nope, I'm the Celipa that was Puar, and before that I was Panbuukin.

What makes and breaks an RPG set aside; what can be taken from my post is that if there's a competitive combat element in your project, then I am interested.

In that case, I'd probably be interested in seeing what you have in mind.

I mean, ideally, I'd LOVE to stay on Chubbs, just not in her current form. I like pretty much everybody that's written on the site (and the few I didn't get along with I could easily ignore 90% of the time) and I reallyl ike the characters and history we have going on here.

However, if there wasn't a change in the site I'd prolly rather be somewhere else that's a little more active and less cluttered with failed attempts at lifeboats hanging around. I mean, I'm not dissing the attempt to save the ship or anytihng, just that the attempts are still looming around like the punctured hulls of live rafts dangling off the edge of the Titanic.

I think I'm getting to the point where I'd rather write something non-DBZ. But, at the same time, that would likely mean that the game would be based on a different anime, of which I'd be totally unfamiliar, and that would cause me to lose interest. I'd probably write on a site with any genre, albeit in a limited capacity (law school is hard, man), but that's contingent on there being other semi-active, enjoyable people to write with.

Pretty much this: Free time + Good People = I will write.

Edit: I haven't voted yet, as I can't DECIDE

For me, I greatly enjoy settings the most.

As an unrelated irritation (and I'm not saying anyone did this, it was just a spontaneous thought that crossed my mind when thinking of the differences of other anime with dbz), I find an odd interaction in the general desire to want a DBZ rpg, but then wanting to have characters that can do a ton of things that never showed any roots in DBZ at all (but we've managed to "story justify" a lot of them). Not saying we haven't made it work, but its a large part in why I don't consider us as heavily rooted to traditional DBZ anymore. IE - wanting to play in an RPG where Goku/Vegeta are important characters, but they can use magic and, say, summon familiars or some shit.
