I'm going to leave the other poll open. As of the time of this post, it's tied between a DBZ Hubb and a non-DBZ Hubb, with technically one of those being a swing vote. This is mostly for those who voted for a DBZ Hubb, although anyone is free to vote.
For an official poll, I'll have to wait for a staffer, but I'll go ahead and start a manual one.
I would like to know what the number one reason is that draws you to Dragon Ball Z specifically.
Quote:1.) I'm a fan of the series
2.) I like the mythology; it helps me build a story
3.) I like playing as a canon
4.) I want to blow stuff up
5.) The fighting/competitive aspect
6.) I'm familiar with DBZ
7.) I've never done any other kind of RPG
I'm sure it's probably a mix of some or all of them for everybody, but pick a number 1-7 for the main reason you would choose to play on a DBZ RPG.

Feel free to explain your choice if you'd like. This poll is so I can understand the reasoning behind the votes in the other one.

It wasn't so much a reasoning behind my vote as it was a glimpse into my thinking process in general as it pertains to this. That said, this is what I edited out:
"I don't really care, though...the reason why I'm here specifically is that Chubbs is unique. Anyone who claims otherwise hasn't tried to look elsewhere. If I could easily find a place with talented writers, free reign to "bunny," stats, etc, I likely wouldn't have bothered to check in every once in a while. DBZ is nice because it's familiar, I guess, but it could be a number of things, canon-based or original, and I'd be interested.
Not sure if you considered my previous vote as the swing vote, but if you didn't, you should. I legitimately just want something here to be worth doing again."
As far as DBZ goes, I suppose I'd be behind that direction just because it's been a while. I haven't written DBZ since my last post here. Like you said, though, it's more a mixture of all the options.

It used to be 6, now it's just because that's what other people prefer and it seems to be the only platform that can generate activity around these parts.

5 and 4!
Because all of the "pew pew" parts are pretty familiar and fighting is fun. I like the CHUBBS mythology more than I like the canon mythology.

Bazinga!
And to answer the question: nothing. DBZ is easy, but, honestly, the show is limited in scope, making expansions upon it feel either incredibly contrived or such a departure from the canon that it's not really clear why it's still associated with the show. The variance between serious and cartoon-like can also make for really weird scenarios where one person is trying to write a scene without goofy looking hover-cars and talking animal-people and then someone else... does.
DBZ definitely still has some nostalgic value for me, but not a ton. Over the years (and years) I've learned, forgotten, re-learned and then re-forgotten everything about the series and the characters and it just gets old after a while.
I'd say do an original RPG, but I don't really think it's worth sacrificing the "commercial" appeal of a spin-off. If you're looking for something popular Naruto, Fairy Tail, and Bleach have universes that lend themselves incredibly well to an RPG. If you really want to do DBZ, though, holla.
I will admit that, despite everything, the mechanics of an RPG are far more important to me than the setting. If I find the game part of it interesting, I can find a way to write everything else to be of interest to me.

1,2 and 6 for me. Love the series, pretty familiar with most, if not all of it, but most of all, the mythology is great. Lots to build off of.
Man alone measures time.
Man alone chimes the hour.
And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

1 got me here all those years ago.
Then I built a cool canon around my cast of characters, met some cool writers to help grow that...I guess I also like fight scenes and blowing up stuff? I've never felt any commitment to the actual mythology, just the shared one I have with a few other writers.

I'm a fan(choose the first one). But I'm a bigger fan of other series now than DBZ. Naruto being number one. Bleach, a close second.

2. The mythology is thoroughly ad hoc, but I had an enjoyment for it.
If I were to write again, though, I think I'd prefer something more serious. The idea that there can be all sorts of super powerful people walking around, whose profession is basically 'fighter', is a bit silly. Give me the rhythm of Vampire: The Masquerade, where there is a day-world of taxis and employment and three well-structured meals, and a night-world of intrigue and mayhem. I'd find that much more interesting.

I came here for basically the entire poll originally. I came from GAIA Online, some social constant-avatar mass of forums - you would write posts, get forum gold and buy items for your avatar. I just used it as a way to have a constant flow of new roleplay scenarios and storylines flowing. The level of roleplay was mixed however and I missed something more constant, so I just happened to stumble upon this site. Then every single poll option kicked in, mostly the familiarity of the lore, which convinced me and my friend to stay here.
The things faded for a while however, because I found it increasingly hard to write as a character in the DBZ universe living their daily life. I could never find the "sweet spot" for transitioning into a semi-powerful person (I write drafts of personal storylines off-site) and just kept getting stuck trying to find myself in the same position(s) as the characters in the series. I guess this is more of a personal short-coming than anything else, though. I believe something like Meer suggested would be easier for me to roleplay in.

I would pick most of those options. DBZ still holds a lot of nostalgia to me and I would not be adverse to always roleplaying DBZ. I recently started rewatching the show and gotten a little past Raditz's death and I have to admit, I was surprised at how much I still enjoy it. Maybe it's because I don't really care about other anime and nothing's come to overtake it, but the enjoyment is still there.

Its kinda hard to actually pick one of the seven because they don't actually feel like any option that I'd pick.
I mean I've wrote as Goku Jr, Pikkon and Retane for canon, characters that have little to no real involvement with the original DBZ storyline. Then selected Mal Nova because of how much fun with how I developed Retane after we were forced to give up our canons.
Some of the more favorable parts were the game mechanics of it. From back when they had a code where you gathered points you could put into stats each week to now. The zeni, items, and stats along with achieving the power-ups(the old way) were some of the things that kept me attracted.
20-30+ moves just means that you have endless scenarios of how you can write how your character would handle a situation, rather then using the same combo over and over and over again.
The whole competitive side of things with tournaments, DA, the league made it fun to. You had the chance to see how you and your character compared to the others in a head to head face off.

That was possibly one of the most coherent and well-explained positions you've ever had, and not only was it well said, but I completely agree with you. Thank you Mal.

I really enjoy the fighting heavy aspect, but the ability to world build, create unique characters and truly have an influence on a game world is important. Sometimes having an established canon can take away your freedom as a writer; on the other hand having a canon to work with can help with the creative process by giving you a framework to build off of.
I think a lot of it comes down to a driver's familiarity and love for canon characters and the setting. There are a TON settings it would be fun to write in, but few that I'd want to write for a previously existing character. If I was gonna do a canon game Id write as Mustard (a spice boy) so that Id have the freedom to write and make shit up.
I guess my point I that I wouldn't want to write on a hubb/forum if it was a strict canon, even more so because I don't really watch/enjoy most modern animes, and a lot of animes would get really boring/constricting to write in. In fact, this is why AD and Greg's proposed omniverse was an exciting idea for me to think about.
Also, if it's a naruto or bleach forum I dunno how excited Id be to write in it. Just not a fan of the series.

For once we agree. I'd love to be a vampire that isn't fag like and sparkly.
