Environments/Atmospheres You're Interested in Writing About

I totally agree. Whatever eclectic collection of writers we manage to cobble together aren't going to want to be bound by a canon (IMO LAWL)

Something to keep in mind is the imposed burden of knowledge created when looking at doing a completely custom RPG. Pulling from an existing canon allows people to much more easily jump into the game and start writing without having to read through all of the backstory and setting and so on and so forth.

In a perfect world everyone would read everything about an RPG before they actually joined, but, as it turns out, the world is far from perfect.

I'm almost a reversed version of Sig; while I do enjoy the ability to create and add to the community, I'm a kind of guy who gets terrified if I'm just let loose in a world and told to go nuts with creating it. My biggest flaw in life has always been, crudely translated Danish saying, "jumping over where the fence is the shortest". I do the bare minimum and in such cases where I'm just given freedom without structure, I tend to just create something but it's support will be the absolutely minimum. There'll be lots of holes in the background story of the entire thing and if one layer is removed due to a sudden change in the setting it's in, there'll most likely be glaring mistakes and contradictions.

That said, this is a more personal flaw of mine. I'd cope with the setting be very community-driven, I would just like if the moderating team would still regulate the changes to ensure whatever theme we decide on is somewhat kept, kind of like now (prior the massive inactivity).

Settings I'm pretty much game for everything but far far ahead in the future and Gundam. Because I just can't get into Gundam.

I would like if it's a table top-esque setting, because I missed the chance to play any of these due to my social circles back then and after watching a lot of videos covering tabletop RPGs from back then from a guy named Spoony, there's a lot of really interesting themes to play around with like WoD, Cyberpunk 2020, Cthulu, D&D, Shadowrun and so on. I'd love to get a taste of these.

I know this is off topic, but if you're looking to play tabletop Tyr, I run a 40k game on OpenRPG on alternating Thursday nights (EST).

On topic, I'd prefer a style that's... well, not larger than life. I enjoy the feel of a character who's... well, relatable. Maybe that's a personal flaw, but there it is.

Edit: Basically, I just want some rules in place where a guy who isn't all about being the strongest can still do stuff.

I think that a good way to avoid a lot of the pitfalls of a custom setting will be to use a more "generic" custom setting that a lot of people are familiar with. This however, does NOT restrict people from coming up with creative or unique ideas in the world.

An example of a "generic" setting would be something like "High Fantasy" or"Futuristic Giant Robots" or "low fantasy" or "urban fantasy."

"Futuristic Giant Robots" should not only be the theme, but also the name of the game. I would be so down with that.

I imagined that every person in the game is a futuristic giant robot, romance and intrigue as they plod around cities, killing thousands under their metallic heel.

My robot will fall in love with a washing machine and such. It'll be epic.

And so I don't get blamed for spam, I can't really get behind a giant robot thing. While I might be able to relate with the character, combining that with the ability to pilot a robot with the ability to crush cities (Power Rangers-style) doesn't sound appealing. Though, I could be a mechanic or politician is said setting and be fairly happy,

I tried playing in Gundam rpgs back in the day...waaay back in the day lol. Fuck I feel old. But anyway it didn't appeal to me much but I've played in Power ranger rpgs and made it work so chances are I could probably work in this world...maybe. I don't know though.

I'm game with the general anime/manga that folks ahve heard of. I haven't read Hunter x Hunter or much else. So it's time for me to expand, so right now I'm game for just about anything.

A pure custom world, well I would only go that route if it were either a Zombie oriented rpg or Medieval Fantasy type. I would rather hear what the experts are going to do though.

Post-Apocalyptic would be super. Could appease those who want to be powerful guys with radiation mutants, psychics, and tech-infused cyborgs. It'd have a bad-ass survival aspect, pretty much forcing people to work together to even exist. And it'd be easy to keep people in relatively the same place, at the very least on the same planet. Do it Fallout style.

I really enjoy settings with sci-fi.

I dislike Gundam style, although, I'd give it a shot (I did once before).

I really just like something where the world is smaller (like Kaden said, if we had had just Earth things may have been better). Having a small location/world allows people to interact more. Along with fluid time, you're less restricted.

I'm more for custom and world building, having flexibility, but having structure in that if fighting or combat comes into play the players have rules and the like to go off of. Unless of course it's free-form.
