Super Mafia Bros. World 2-1
#1
Midnight: Toad Town

A peaceful scene opens. Bowser, King of the Koopas, sleeps soundly, feeling completely safe in his turtly majesty. Who would dare attack the great King? Even lava has proven less than permanent in slaying Bowser.

So, it goes without saying that he bothered to lock his door, or even stirred when someone entered. The shadowy figure floats over to the bed. Bowser coughs softly in his sleep, rolling over, and in the brief flash the form of Bullet Bill is easily recognizable.

"I've toiled under you for far too long, Koopa King," Bullet Bill speaks softly. "Too long have I been fired from cannons at ridiculously slow speeds, easily stomped upon by that blaster plumber. Tonight, you pay."

Silencing himself, Bullet Bill quietly launched himself at Bowser. Mere minutes later, the deed was done, and the Koopa King stared silently at the ceiling. Smirking, Bullet Bill turned to leave the room... and promptly died himself.

Chuckling, the Mafia Member looked down at the corpse at his feet, sliced cleanly in two. The fool had done the Mafia a great service tonight, but he was a risk they couldn't afford to leave around.

Morning: Toad Town

As the residents stir from their slumber and gather in the town center to count their numbers, they quite quickly notice that Bowser is missing. And a search of the Koopa King's home turns up the corpse of Bullet Bill and a rather interesting theory of what went down.

Day 2 begins now and will continue until midnight EST Tuesday night (Approximately 49 1/2 hours from now).

Well that was pretty intense.

It should come as a surprise to no one that, as I indicated, John Doe would be the first to die. It's almost tiresome being right all the time.

I should really grammar and spelling check these before I post them.

Well then... I wouldn't have expected Bowser to be a townie. This leaves us with no direction at all whatsoever. What to do, what to do...

There's nothing really too do, I thought that much would have been clear.

Unless a sheriff decides to out himself with some hopefully good news, you all can banter back and forth while I continue to point out the obvious.

I mean, he DID say straight up before the game ever started that (because people always assume the exact opposite for whatever reason) canon alignment would play no part in this games faction choices. Again.

Which usually we always tend to ignore, regardless, and insist the opposite. So yeah, I think that's something that we as townies should stop doing going forth. Just because someone is accused of being Satan (in game, guys, we're not referring to Kaden's current game cockiness role here ;D) doesn't mean a thing as far as them being mafia or town or whatever other choices there are. We should honestly not take that into account unless for some reason the GM has blatantly told us that such an effect will be in place. It tends to be nothing more than a red herring more often than not to just act on such assumptions, especially when we've been forewarned that this is not the case directly.

I could go on, but I guess I'll move the conversation on in my next post.

Why would the sheriff just out himself like that? Although if someone does have any kind of direction, please bring it forth!

Well, except this nice piece of work here, are we going to start making crazy assumptions yet?

I'm guessing Bullet Bill was some kind of vigilante, so that leaves doctor and sheriff for town, right?

I dunno. When we were running back-to-back mafia games, basically everyone had some kind of power.

You also have other more traditional roles like Grandma with a Shotgun or the Jerk (don't remember the name for this guy, but he's the townie who shows up as a mafia if he's investigated).

Wouldn't think I'd have to remind you that making assumptions is a great way to get owned in this game.

Guys, let's not concern ourselves with what we failed in, but with what it is still possible for us to do. We can still win this game. Unfortunately, Kaden is right. We have absolutely no way of knowing at this point who is Mafia and who isn't. Super lame that we lost two townies on the first night. It makes me wish for the days when nobody did anything at night and the mafia didn't kill anyone two nights in a row...now THAT was a game.

But I digress. We have nothing to go off of except for the fact that it wasn't Doe targeted by the Mafia. Doe was targeted by Sophia, and Sophia by the Mafia. I do find it interesting that Sophia was "sliced cleanly in two". I wonder if this was to be a clue as to the method of killing, and therefore the weapon of choice for that Mafia member. Only time will tell, although I can't seem to think of any sword-wielding Mario characters off the top of my head. Hammer, yes. But sword, not so much.

Why did the Mafia target Sophia? Soph didn't do anything last round except accuse Teemer. Unless Soph has been a mafia-locating wunderkind in games past (I can't remember), it doesn't make sense that he was targeted unless Teemer is mafia hushing up his only vocal accuser, or it was a random killing. It seems unlikely that Soph had an ability which allowed her to identify mafia (since she targeted a TP, and her ability, or so it seems, was to target someone at night - i didn't see her publicly vote for JD, so i'm assuming she tipped the scales with an ability that allowed her to silent vote or kill someone), so I don't know if we can reasonably assume that her accusation of Teemer had any merit, but it's something to consider (lucky guesses do happen).

It seems like the mafia would normally kill someone more active, who's more of a threat to them. Especially in these smaller games where the townspeople have such a small margin of error. Then again, killing a vocal player, like Kaden or someone, would raise more suspicion.

I don't know, it just seemed strange that Soph was the one who went down, but it was probably just a rando-killing and i'm overthinking this.

Oh, and, uh, fuck koopas and all ya'all people. Bah! Humbug!

Killing a quieter person for the first few rounds makes sense. While more vocal people attract more attention from the mafia, they also attract more attention for the Doctor or any other kind of support role for the town. Sophia, on the other hand was likely taking a shot at random. Not an ideal use of the vigilante -- if that's what he was -- but, as it turned out, he didn't have time to slow roll it.

There really isn't anything to over-think, sadly. Sophia did nothing of note during the day phase, making it unlikely that he was anything other than a victim of random chance and Doe was probably just killed for the lawls.

Since I neglected to mention it previously, I'll do so now. Everyone needs to post at least once per day phase. 1st transgression will be a PM'd warning. Second trangression will be the death of your character.

Also, on that note, don't forget to put your quirks into your posts. Everyone has thus far. Just a reminder.

Following up on the previous post as promised, I think another theme I see in every game's first days is "Why did the mafia kill whoever the first one or two people were that died? THERE MUST BE A REASON SO I THINK____". There actually doesn't need to be. For every reason that can be given of why it would make more sense to do one action, there almost always seems to be an equal amount of reason to do the opposite. We can say "why would they kill SilentBob? They never talk, so what's to gain? Why not kill someone vital?" and then someone else will feel "if they killed Loudmouth, its too obvious, because he spoke out against certain people". But then that can be gamed by "So if they automatically just kill the first person to talk about them (or each person that talks about MAFIAGUY1) then people will just dismiss that on the grounds of 'too obvious', which can be abused in both directions."

We keep ending up in the Princess Bride scene involving poison in the cups by thinking and overthinking it too much. I really don't put much faith in the idea that the first kills really matter and are done literally at random just to get us flipping shit. I could probably find posts in other mafia games to support this, but maybe next time.

That said, we should vote SOMEONE because while its detrimental to be losing townies right now, the completely passive play is equally detrimental in that we are still losing townies but with nothing gained for it of information.

Wouldn't it be safer to be just losing 1 townie per day than losing any more than we have to by voting off of complete whims? I don't know, since there's no clear direction and no new information I don't really see how voting off someone that's possibly Mafia but more likely townie would help, if anything it'll just help us lose the game faster.

I mean, maybe the sheriff is someone that hasn't posted yet like Dehan or is trying to lay low like Tyr. There's also another possibility that the sheriff's ability isn't instant or only gives part clues. If that WERE the case, we should just wait until someone has a clue about something.

Oh my...

So many assumptions being made there. I started to type them out in a list but it simply wasn't worth the effort.

Lynch King B

Sounds like he's stalling. Doubt we'll a lynch vote. Just throwing it out there.

Also, I'm usually right.
