But Pilaf's not in this movie, is he?

... Well if Mai's in it, you would expect Pilaf to be. Or maybe it's a hint at a sequel.

No, this is a crude mockery of the Demon King saga. Mai's in it because, you know. Hot chick.

Mai's character has been changed to be a minion of Piccolo

When you're dancing her dance, you don't stand a chance
Her grip of romance makes you fall!
So you think, might as well dance a tango to Hell
At least I'll have tango'd at all!

As much as that makes me want to vomit a little in my mouth, I have to remember that this movie is NOT for fans of the series.

Presumably they're branching out to people they've never tapped into before, but this whole 'random white kid has prophecy of destiny that gives him ninja powers greater than all the asian kung fu masters that are around him' seems somehow vaguely racist to me. Wasn't this done only, like, this year?

I still the movie will be okay. If you go into this movie with the utmost intention of watching a DB movie and spending the entire time criticizing it for not staying on point with the anime, you are going to have a horrible time.

But if you go in expecting to see decent kung fu, silly humor and some mystical elements, you'll walk out satisfied. I think it's going to fairly good as a stand-alone movie.

But no, it's not going to be perfectly Dragonball. It's going to take a LOT of liberties, so if you're gonna walk in expecting to be pissed about that, don't bother.

AH HA.

HAHAHA.

HAHAHAHAHA.

If only this could be an early april fools.

No, I'm going to see it, we know everyone will, but I'm laughing because even if I knew nothing of Dragonball, it still looks like a bad kungfu movie that I usually laugh at during previews. Like, that scene with Piccolo right after the pimped out car (wtf are they throwing bumblebee in there for) made me go "Oh wow, its like seeing the second Power Rangers movie again".

Their little flash of the characters with names is what really made it look bad. It looked alright up until they started flashing out characters all "super cool" and then had to throw in pimped out cars to get the kids to remember how cool Transformers was so they'd think this was something similar. And then the females don't even look like they are wearing traditional clothing that seems realistic. They look like...

Well...

Remember how watching the first Mortal Kombat movie we were all going "Oh man, the costumes for Scorpion and Sub Zero look awesome, I didn't think they could make the weird pointy shoulders look realistic" (and same with Wolverine's hair), and then we saw the sequel and instead of leather clothing they wore black gloves to hide the effects and had plastic armor on?

Yeah, that is what this movie is reminding me of. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. I was sure that I'd actually like the movie too, thinking "Most people are going to be too hard on it and it'll be a great movie regardless" but now I'm thinking "Most people are going to rightfully rip it apart, but I'll probably enjoy it for the most part despite being annoyed at a lot of details I'm trying to ignore." Which is the same feeling I had walking out of the third Matrix.

EDIT: Watching it again after letting it sink in... It can still be decent, and I can ignore the car focus etc, and all... And while I understand why they had to do the stupid flashy "HERE'S THE CHARACTERS" thing, it was still stupid. Not the scenes involving said characters in action, but the damn Ginyu poses in the Power Point frames they had.

If it doesn't take itself seriously it can still be a good movie.

Random white kid? What so they're just gonna white wash over the whole, saiyan thing? Cause... you know, it was kinda an important part of the series...

I'll see it, but I'll probably buy a ticket to another movie and sneak into this one.

I have a feeling I'll be the only one that see's it.

I think as far as skipping over the Saiyan thing, I think they'll just not mention it. Just like Roshi will NOT be a pervert, according to them, and they do plan on "a series", though that's just what they said on that site in quotes from the film people. Those are fine, they are reaching to the non-anime loving crowd. The anime loving crowd would find a way to hate it no matter how good it was. If everything went perfect, some fuckjob would go "Yeah, well, it should have been dubbed in full Japanese so we could read subtitles, way to butcher it America".

Seriously, anime watchers are some of the most pickiest bastards I've ever seen. The origional Jap audio is one of the biggest points.

Even if they stick to the anime, we'd complain because the anime at times sucked dick.

Though Roshi not being a pervert kinda sucks. He was the recurring comic relief in the series, so dunno how they plan to humor up the movie at times.

The Saiyan thing isn't that big a deal, though it would have been nice if he atleast had a tail or explained how he lost it so if they make a sequel they could expand Goku's story.

If Krillin's gone and Roshi's not a pervert, where's the humour gonna come from? I hope they don't make it into a really serious movie.
