Whoa, VS?

Anyone else (vets likely) get the email in regards to Vagrant Space? I know I saw Mario's email in the list.
Quote:A Foreword from Treslo Kresha and Maverick

Hello everyone, this is a joint letter from Jeff Crosby, creator of Vagrant Space, and Matthew Smith, the writer behind Treslo Kresha. This message likely comes as a shock to some and as less of one to others who can already guess where we are going with this e-mail. In either case, we hope that you are as excited as we are to announce the up-coming arrival of a new game in which all of you have a vested, historic interest. We would like to present to you the first exposure of: InMyth

I took the link out, not sure about linking to other games. I'm just shocked, these guys fell off the face of the earth.

Go ahead and post it. I never got into VS, per se, due to reasons beyond me (lack of time and perhaps not really knowing people) but its still an interesting concept (one of which I've also worked on occasionally as an idea).

I have, however, tried to find out if it had come back recently. They had their "fallback board" where they were trying to get the info from the archiver, and last I heard they were talking with Jeff about info to see what they could piece together. It looks like they went a different direction, but that's fine.

Jeff's pretty strong about rpg ideas, I can give him that. His coding skills are top notch as well.

We would like to present to you the first exposure of: www.InMyth.com.
The Successor of Vagrant Space

The time has finally come to return to the stars and help shape the destiny of mankind. After nearly seven years, the concept behind Vagrant Space RPG has given rise to an entirely new universe where men conquer the stars, but have yet to resolve the age-old conflicts amongst themselves.
Be ready for a return of the fun that captured thousands at the new home www.InMyth.com.
[Image: banner_starborn.jpg]The immersive play-by-post game experience has been reborn into a new episodic game: Starborn: Heritage. In Starborn players are dropped into the middle of an ever-shifting epic that plays on a continuation of humanity's struggle for betterment and growth. Taking place over 1200 years in the future, Starborn is sweeping in scope, dwarfing its predecessor in every regard.
With Starborn, we have worked to create a game system that empowers players by providing them with an array of choices that span a galaxy. The game's tone encourages both active, combative play as well as passive, story-driven play to provide a richly complex story. Read more about Starborn at the site, and be sure to register for e-mail updates to keep tabs on the development schedule.
Reuniting the Fold

Through InMyth.com and Starborn, we are working to reunite a base of passionate gamers who have been left wanting for over five years. If you are interested in becoming a part of the new legacy that is to be InMyth.com and its hosted games, please visit the site now at: www.inmyth.com We are currently still in development of the site and ask that you keep eyes and ears open for news coming from the site in the coming weeks.
With the lofty goals of rebuilding what has kept a warm spot in many of our hearts, InMyth.com is currently seeking interested parties for story-guides and moderation of its flagship game, Starborn: Heritage.
Interested in Helping?

We are in need of world-builders and creative thinkers who are passionate about gaming. We are looking for volunteer staff positions to be filled in this epic rebirth effort that will reunite a long-lost community of peers. If you are interested in helping out and getting involved with the existing development, or in filling the role of a story-guide once the game goes live, or best of all both then please, send a reply to this e-mail.
Please direct such inquiries plainly by using valid subject lines such as, "Interested in Helping" or "Interested in Volunteering". Depending upon response it will take some time to process such replies, so please bear with us in that regard as we are pressed for development time.
Thanks for your time everyone, I hope to see you playing with us soon.

Ouch.

Looks like the thing I've been working on is pretty well screwed now. Sad Some of the things on there are quite similar to the ideas I've been working on, but he has the coding skills to back it up and make things much easier on people.

Thems the breaks, I guess.

I mean, their site...I don't get it. An FTP? What, it's like D&D?

Their system seems to be planned around allowing members to create planets and worlds for the game. A concept I myself have toyed with (I had a fantasy game planed back in 10th grade, all in this notebook I have, built around a "World Creation System" and ways to travel the planes between them.)

No, InMyth seems to be a something like a game system. It's basically RPG Maker except for freeform RPG's on the internet.

Starborn on the other hand is an RPG.

Yeah, my net lagged, so I just got to look at it again.

The "InMyth Game Designer" is a system they've created to use to basically sell access to (Similar to Jeroen's original idea for his database for other sites) for others to create their own RPGs from. Its another idea I've seen people do, if they are good with coding up user end stuff. Exactly what Josh said.

"Starborn: Heritage" is the VS style RPG they are going to launch using it.

So the IGD is the engine, like the "Unreal Engine" that games are made with, and Starborn is the launch game from that engine, like Unreal Tournament 3.

Yes. Its just using the IGD database to run it. Meaning for the most part, anything that Starborn uses as far as rosters and shops and stuff, another game that you or I create with IGD will be able to do as well.

Of course. He went to school for it and has great coding ability. As well as Photoshop and Terragen and all that other stuff. He's got the hookups on other people as well, so he doesn't tend to get stranded with things like owners that make a lot of promises and then disappear off the net to play Ragnarok Online.
