Burter's The Amazing Race
#1
This is a fan fiction of The Amazing Race my friend and I have been writing, and I'll share it here because I want to.

I'm not looking for grammar editing or suggestions, just root for your favorite teams and stuff like it's a real show! Smile

Soon, eleven teams of two will embark on a race around the world. The prize? One Million Dollars! HERE IS THE CAST! =D

===============

Elizabeth (47) and Zachary (25) ? Engaged
For nearly fifteen years, Elizabeth, a never-married woman in her forties, had been a best friend to a mother of two. When her friend?s son, Zachary, got into his mid-twenties, the two became romantically involved, much to the dismay of Zachary?s parents. ?For a while I listened to my parents and did what they wanted. I always dated the type of girls they wanted, didn?t come home late, and wasn?t a troublemaker, but I fell in love with an older woman, and nothing?s wrong with that in my eyes. Love is love,? Zachary explained. Elizabeth, who is often criticized for her relationship choice, only commented stating that, ?I don?t see the big deal to it all. Who cares about age?? Happily engaged as of recently, Zachary hasn?t spoken to his parents or sister for just over a year, and admits that until they can accept his choice in life, he?s better off with the love of his life.

Elizabeth: With long fiery red hair and a very young figure for an older woman, Liz is often mistaken for a younger girl. Though physically she isn't as strong as Zachary, her courage and brainpower helps complete the team. As Zachary so accurately puts it, her chest is not the only thing well endowed. She realized the race is going to be tough, and claims to be ready for anything we can throw at her.

Zachary: Fresh out of medical school, Zachary is primed and ready to compete in a race around the world. . He has long blonde hair down his back, which fits in with the fact he plays guitar in his own band. He's perfectly fit and appears to be the stronger of the pair, which in no doubt is a plus. Zachary is often described as an overall nice guy who lives his life by goals and values he sets for himself.

Jeremy (27) and Sara (23) ? Parents
A successful college student at twenty, Sara and a few friends went out to a party one night. Unbeknownst to her, it would change her life forever, when she got so drunk that she and a friend of a friend, Jeremy, slept together, and the next thing she knew she was pregnant. The two don?t get along all that much, but Jeremy is working hard to support his daughter, and even Sara herself. ?I?m not a jerk like some people I know. I had a child, and we both wanted to keep it. She?s my everything,? Jeremy admits, letting down his cocky wall. ?I?m ashamed of what I did, but I can say that it was God?s plan for me,? Sara explains, having become more religious after the pregnancy. ?We?re here to work together, because we?re always fighting, and a three-year old doesn?t deserve to have to sit through it whenever we?re in a room together.? The pair isn?t afraid to admit that they dislike each other, but want to learn to work as a team, and win the money to raise their daughter with no restriction money-wise. ?Look out for us. We?re going far, and we?ll be at each other?s throats all the way to the finish line,? Sara says, in-between chuckles. ?It?s the Jeremy show now!? Jeremy arrogantly spits out, as Sara rolls her eyes.

Jeremy: Slightly overweight, Jeremy has long brown hair, which he keeps in a ponytail. Sara is constantly telling him how arrogant he is, but of course being as stubborn as he is tall, Jeremy doesn't listen. "I don't see anything wrong with how I am, so why should I change?" he questions. He says the determination to win, even at the risk of angering Sara, will cause him to do anything and everything he can to win the money to support the real love of his life, his daughter, with the million dollars.

Sara: Sara is tanned with smooth black hair reaching all the way down to her rear end. "I've never had a haircut. My hair is now longer then my arms," she laughed. She feels that her best strength in the game is going to be her ability to keep her cool in the hardest situations, but admits with Jeremy around it's going to be difficult. "I have been known to go off as well," she admits, "So I can't really say Jeremy is always at fault." Whether she has to fight Jeremy the whole way or not, she promised herself and her daughter that she was going to win the race at all costs.

Rachel (30) and Sarah (31) ? Dating
When she was only sixteen, Rachel realized that she was a full-fledged lesbian, and though at first she denied it, and tried to seek help for it, she eventually came to terms with it, and is now fully happy with the way she lives her life. By nineteen, she had fallen in love with a girlfriend, but when she discovered that her girl had been cheating with a guy, she was heartbroken and vowed never to date again. For four years she was closed-minded towards dating, but a year ago she met Sarah, a recently out bi-sexual just looking for a good time. ?Our relationship is rocky at best, but we still love each other,? Sarah commented, ?Neither of us have support from our parents, and we?re looking to gain it,? Rachel added. After applying to The Amazing Race, they decided that it would either make or break their relationship. ?This is it. There is no next level, but I?d like to start taking things more seriously. Let?s call this a test,? Sarah finished.

Rachel: Rachel has a full head of silky brown hair, as well as a swimsuit figure that she is not afraid to use to her advantage. She is an independent woman, living by her own beliefs. "I think the only opinion that matters is mine," she claims, "If someone doesn't like me for who I am, they can kiss my ass," she adds with a smirk.

Sarah: Being the more outspoken of the two, Sarah is often criticized for her rudeness or loud mouth. "I do talk a bit too much," she admitted with laughter. Sarah sports a fairly average frame, a little bigger then Rachel. Though she doesn't have a model figure, she does have very long blonde hair, which shimmers, down her back. She claims her biggest strength is her optimism, which can keep anyone cheerful even at the hardest times.

Summer (25) and Emma (26) ? Stepsisters
Emma?s father walked out on her and her mother when she was only five years old. Meanwhile, Summer?s mother had passed away a year before, a heartbreaking tragedy that always followed her. When both girls were ten, their parents met and a year later married. Growing up together, the two girls became the best of friends, never fighting. ?I never saw the point of fighting with my sister. We were both the only child and for me at least, I don?t take Summer for granted,? Emma said, hugging her stepsister. ?We?ve always told people we?re actual sisters, but we look nothing alike!? Summer mentioned, giggling. At twenty-one, Summer went away to university, and now has a job in New York, while her Emma lives in Cleveland. The two applied to The Amazing Race because they feel that their strong bond will bring them close to the finish line, and as diehard Race fans, they want to be the first fully female team to win the race.

Summer: Summer is very petite, standing just barely over five feet tall. She keeps her brown hair up in comfortable bun, a habit she never got rid of from childhood. Her figure is not exactly model material, but she is still considered cute nonetheless. She claims that the biggest asset to her in the race will be her navigation skills. "I've already traveled all over the country," says the New York Times reporter, "So I'm excellent with maps and directions."

Emma: The polar opposite of her stepsister, Emma is tall, thin, and drop dead gorgeous. She has shoulder-length black hair and twinkling brown eyes. The older of the two, by only a few months, Emma feels like the leader of the duo. "I think when it comes down to it, I take care of her a bit more then she does for me. It just comes with the age." She explains. Emma feels that the race is going to be a test of relationships for a lot of people, but not for her and Summer. "For us, it's all about winning. We don't want the adventure or a way to see if we are compatible. We know we get along, so to us, we're here to win and that's it."

===============

Samos (22) and Ryan (24) ? Teachers
Even when he was young, Ryan knew he wanted to be a teacher. He had a hunger for helping others to learn, and as his parents pressured him to choose an ivy-league school and become a doctor, Ryan ignored their advice, and went on to become a third-grade teacher at a local school. Samos, however, had a completely different experience with becoming a teacher. After getting engaged at eighteen to a girl that lived on the opposite side of the country, Samos found himself without enough money to support them. Barely making it into teachers college, Samos became a teacher, while his fianc? (now ex) got into law, with the money Samos had been earning. ?I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed,? Samos admits in his thick southern accent, ?but I?ve got dumb luck that carries me far.? Upon getting a job in the Boston area, he met Ryan, his polar opposite, and the two have become good friends. ?We?re two pigs in a pigpen. Two slaps of tuna in a sandwich. We?re? forget it,? Ryan said, beginning their interview. ?I know we?re gonna win it,? Samos said, and the two high-fived in a special ?secretive? way that only the two of them knew about.

Samos: With shoulder length brown hair and a shaggy beard, Samos looks alot older then he actually is. In reality, Samos is a young guy in his lower twenties who just manages to get by based off his charm and luck. "I can admit that sometimes I make bad moves, but I have logic sense on my side." Truth be told, Samos is quite the charmer with people and he says that is his best advantage coming into a game that requires alot of social interaction with local people all over the country.

Ryan: Ryan is short, bald, and wears glasses. Nerd? Don't think so! Ryan is as physical as it gets when it comes to teachers, regularly playing local football and basketball games and doing very well. "I'm not cut out for sports," he explained, "But that never stopped me once." He felt that he and Samos made the best team because they were both intelligent, and both of them were athletic. "Some people may think it's sad that the person I trust the most is my co-worker," He shrugs, "Well Samos isn't just a co worker to me. He's my best friend. He's closer to me then my parents ever were."

===============

Veronica (29) and Daniel (29) ? Twins
They might be twins by birth, but the fact that ?Vee? and Daniel are totally different people sets the record straight that not all twins are alike. The two grew-up in a small house, with their parents, and two other siblings. Since they live nowhere near one another, and only see each other on special occasions, the two decided to apply to The Amazing Race, for not only the closeness it can bring, but also the money. ?Vee?s doing well for herself, but that?s another place where we?re polar opposites. She?s here for the competition, I?m here for the money,? Daniel clarifies. ?I don?t really need the money, but I know Dan does, so he?ll be getting most of it if we win. I?m more here to see new things and experience first-rate culture,? Veronica continues. Regardless of their placing, the twins are excited to race, and both being strong, hope to come out on top.

Veronica and Daniel: Both of them have fairly short hair and have almost exact facial features. Both are also fairly fit, but not muscular. If you look close, you can tell both of them have different features, so they are not exactly identical. Oh, and the different sex organs is also a distinct difference.

Veronica: Being a successful African American brings great pride to Vee, who feels like she has something to be proud of. "I for one am not racist at all," she promises, "But some people are, so to have earned my way up the ranks in the business world really makes me feel like I accomplished something for my race." When asked what she felt was her biggest weakness, she thought that it probably her bossiness. "I sometimes take control and when I shouldn't, and I know that's probably not the best way to act when on the Amazing Race."

Daniel: Working full-time with his father in a car repair shop, Daniel just barely gets by in life. "I tried my hand at sports, but I never got the grades like Vee to get past college," he sighs, "So I just live my life by working at the family shop." He had never got to travel like his sister had, and assumed that to be his biggest flaw. However, he knew he was a fairly physical person so that could help in the race itself. "When it comes down it, my relationship with my sister is going to effect whether we win or not. Can twins really work as one? I don't know, but here's to finding out!"

===============

Benjamin (63) and Eric (22) ? Grandfather and Grandson
In his day, Benjamin was not only an athlete, but also a star student. He still exercises weekly at a local fitness club, even at sixty-three. He?s been married for nearly forty-five years, and has never had a snag in the relationship. His youngest of three daughters was married young as well, and had her first son, Eric, not even a year after marrying. Just last year, Eric decided it was time to out his deepest and darkest secret: he?s gay. His entire family was at first unsupportive, but sooner or later turned over a new leaf. ?Eric is the same grandson that I used to bring around with me,? Benjamin concludes about his grandson. ?I?m the stereotypical gay guy. I love to shop, I?m a hair stylist, I?m afraid of everything, and I talk like a girl. Am I damn proud of it? Absolutely.? Eric?s still in college but has yet to decide what he wants to do with his life. ?This money isn?t the most important thing to either me or my grandfather. The fact that it will bring us closer is,? Eric added, while his grandfather nodded beside him.

Benjamin: Ben is not how you would picture a sixty-plus man. He's actually quite built and looks like he could be in his late forties or early fifties. In fact, Ben doesn't even have grey hair, instead sporting brownish-red on his nearly bald head. Of course, that doesn't stop the fact he is as old as he is, and does of course suffer some eldery problems. "I'm not fast or as strong as I used to be," he admitted, "But I'm still a pretty athletic person, so coming into a race of this magnitude is not a problem for me at all."

Eric: Skinny, feminine and also gay, Eric doesn't have much going for him when it comes to the athletic part of the game. "I should be happy that I have my grandpa here," he smiled, "Because I'm not a physical person at all." With a ponytail pulled back, holding his crimson locks, Eric isn't all completely helpless. "I think I got the brains of my grandpa, because I seem to get really good grades. I have logic sense, I know how to keep my cool, and to top it off I have a great relationship with my partner."

Kyshawn (23) and Dave (28 ) ? Dating
Friends say that Dave & Kyshawn are quite the pair, and work together quite well. ?We?ve done marathons, and sometimes he has trouble keeping up with me!? Kyshawn admits. Meeting through a friend two years ago, Kyshawn and Dave didn?t fall in love instantly, and were friends for quite some time, before finally beginning to date. ?The fact that Kyshawn isn?t white and I am is something we?re really excited about. We?re here to prove that color doesn?t matter to us,? Dave tells the producers. Their interracial relationship isn?t the only thing that sets them apart from the pack. The two of them are nearly trained athletes, who hope to score the million dollars and possibly up the stakes of their relationship to marriage with the money.

Kyshawn: Kyshawn is a young, fit African American woman. She has long black hair, which she keeps braided. She has a competitive edge to her, which makes her unable to give up or feel like she could lose. She's an optimist, never looking down until the very end.

Dave: Though small, he has a muscular torso, which makes him seem bigger. His hair is short and dirty blonde, making him stand out more with his black partner. He's very competitive, like Kyshawn, never wanting to give in. His only flaw is he seems to lose his cool easily, something he'll have to learn to control. He claims when it comes down to it, he can change himself and control his temper. He says he understands the race is 50% mental.

===============

Alan (41) and Suzie (40) ? Married Parents
On her twenty-first birthday, when Suzie married her boyfriend of three years Alan, the two were thrilled and excited to start a new life. To put it lightly, they had no idea what they were getting into. Soon to follow would be three children that had the mouth of both of them, and yet, living in an entirely Jewish household, the family is a tightly-knitted group that loves each other more than anything else. Right before having children, Alan and Suzie decided that their marriage was already falling apart, and were separated for four years before getting back together. ?We have major tiffs and we?re both as stubborn as a baby holding onto a lollipop,? Alan admits, but Suzie is the first to pin the problem on her husband. ?I?m calm. He isn?t. That?s the biggie for us, and we wanna work through it. This is real marriage, and we?re here to show that to America,? Suzie adds, as her husband breathes heavily, holding in a comment. They then share a laugh. ?Our family is no Partridge Family, that?s for sure!? Suzie exclaims.

Alan: Alan is your typical middle-age man. He's slightly overweight, has a goatee and mustache, is fairly short and has just barely enough black hair to cover his head. He feels that he does have a slight temper problem, but he is not entirely to blame. "There are things about me that I can change to make life easier," he notes, "But I don't think that's enough. If I have to change, there are things about Suzie she would probably need to fix as well." Alan is a football couch and teacher at a high school, so aside from not having the physical looks of an athlete, he is gifted in the knowledge of that sort of topic.

Suzie: Getting older every second, Suzie is all a skinny middle-aged brunette. She comments that she has all the needed skills to win a race like this, but has no confidence in her husband. "Alan is really very bossy and arrogant, so I feel if we lose this race, Alan will probably be the fall. I can see myself carrying us to the finish line, and I'll do it if I have to." Clearly, both sides of the relationship need to work on some things if they plan on going anywhere near the finish line.

===============

Steve (58 ) and Adele (56) ? Married Grandparents
It?s been awhile since Steve and Adele walked down the aisle, thirty-nine years to be exact. Their life has been smooth, and the two have never had any trouble financially, or with their family. In fact, the two have promised that if they win, at least a tenth of the money will go to charity, while seven remaining tenths will go to their children and their grandchildren, and the rest will be neatly tucked away for Steve to retire on. ?The one thing we?ve barely done is travel, so this is a dream come true for me. I might appear as the regular old housewife, but I can abandon the country club, and the make-up, and the hair appointments. It?ll be hard to do, but I?m here to win!? Adele promises, forging a smile. ?She?s my everything. We get along famously, and she?s my best friend. It doesn?t get better than that, no matter what anybody says,? Steve notes. ?Wanna see a strong marriage? Ours is rock-solid and you?ll see it during the race,? remarks Adele.

Steve: Your normal elder male, Steve has a grey beard as well as some hair on top of his nearly bald head. He's not very physical anymore, as seen from his hunching posture. "I'm not the strongest guy around, and I know that, but I have the determination to win. Adele is here to sight-see, but I'm way too competitive to just lose a race." He grins big, "Count on it." Showing off his determination, Steve noted that he was quite the football player back in his day.

Adele: With brown hair and a wrinkled face, Adele is about as cute as an elderly housewife can get. She's the kind of person who bakes cookies for the kids on the corner or picks up stray cats off the street. "Sometimes Steve tells me I'm too nice for my own good," she laughs, "And I guess I see his point." Being on the race is going to be a great experience for Adele. "I've always wanted to see what all is out there in the world." She says, "And this is race is just a God-send."

===============

Taryn (29) and Julie (28 ) ? Roommates
For three years, Taryn and Julie lived together in an on-campus apartment at their local college. However, a major tiff over living conditions had them not speaking for five long years. ?It was one of the roughest times of my life. I?d gone from having this great friend to being on my own. It was scary,? confesses Julie. No longer able to afford the apartment by herself, Taryn placed an ad in the newspaper looking for a roommate, and Julie answered the call. The two patched up their problems and have been living together happily for three years. ?We?re both smart, we?re both pretty, we?re both sassy, and we?re gonna bring down the house!? Taryn laughs. No matter what the results, the two vow not to fight at all, and be satisfied with however they do. Air kissing, the two then share a hug, and smile.

Taryn: Skinny, blonde, and big-breasted, Taryn is just smoking hot, and she knows it. Unlike the stereotypical blonde, Taryn is a fairly intelligent girl. Though like the stereotype, she admits her love for shopping and clothing. "It's gonna be hard not having the wardrobe I usually have, or the make-up I always get." She feels the biggest advantage she holds is her looks, which is not afraid to use if she has to in the race.

Julie: Like Taryn, Julie is short and skinny. However, unlike her roomate, she is a brunette and isn't as well-endowed as Taryn is. "It's always been a joke for us that the only thing we don't have in common is our boob size," she giggled. Julie is a natural athlete and is a very gifted volleyball player, which she regularly plays all the time. "The biggest assett I have," Julie states, "Is my love for a game. If I'm competing, the only thing I think about is winning. Set morales aside, because they can make or break you."

Episode #01 - Oh, I Love It When You?re Evil

At the Tropicana Casino, eleven teams of two await the signal to begin the journey of a lifetime. Putting their fears aside and mustering all of the courage from within themselves, they nervously concentrate on the prize: one million dollars to split between amongst themselves and their partner. Host, Phil Keoghan approached the teams, nodded, and addressed them, ?Welcome to The Amazing Race! It?ll be a bumpy road, but at the end, the last team to cross the finish line will earn one million dollars.? Phil then stopped to let the teams cheer. God knew they?d need every last ounce of happiness they had, because the race would drain them physically, and even more so emotionally. Phil then smiled, nodded again, and continued on. ?The race is divided into thirteen legs. In eight of these thirteen legs, the final team to arrive will be eliminated from the race. In four of the others, the final team to arrive will be forced to hand over all money and possessions. In the other of the thirteen, the first team to arrive will win The Amazing Race.? This time, only smiles came across the competitor?s faces. ?When I say go, you?ll dash a fifth of a mile to your bags and read your first clue, sitting on top of them,? he announced, as the teams nodded in understanding. ?From there, you?re on your own,? he continued, and the looks changed to those of worry and skepticism. Would they blow it already? Who wants to be the first out? ?On your marks?? Phil began, as the teams began to get into position. ??Get set?? he continued, as they began to concentrate on getting to their bags. ?GO!? he screamed, and they dashed off on a journey that would take them through almost 50, 000 miles and more continents than they could dream of. In a way, they were lucky for taking part in such an incredible journey. In another, they were crazy bastards for signing-up to begin with.

"Phenomenal. It was anticipation, it was nervousness, it was excitement--I was scared. It was all of those emotions rolled into one." ~ Taryn (Taryn & Julie)

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Dashing ahead of the pack, Dave was the first to the clue. As Kyshawn arrived, they together ripped open the first clue, with the other teams far back. Teams first had to make their way via marked cars to the Las Vegas McCarran Airport and book a spot on one of three flights, landing thirty minutes apart to Brisbane, Australia. Each flight, however, could only hold four teams maximum, while the first would only hold three. In front of the International Airport in Brisbane, teams would find their next clue. Picking a marked car, Dave hopped into the drivers seat, as Kyshawn gladly took into the back. ?Let?s go, babe,? he said, as he put the key into the ignition. ?First place, here we come!? Kyshawn said, laughing, as she pulled out a map.

?The race is about thinking clearly and quickly, and that isn?t our strongest point. We took a minute, though, and admired that we?re amazing runners. You can?t have a better opening than the one we had, today.? ~ Dave (Kyshawn & Dave)

As the dating couple began to pull out, friends and co-teachers, Samos & Ryan ripped open their clue and got into a car. Most of the younger teams reached it within the next minute, and even Steve & Adele didn?t take too much time later. However, Eric cheered as his grandfather ran slowly, far away from the clue. ?This is so frustrating!? Eric thought aloud, as the other teams climbed into their cars, including married grandparents Steve & Adele. ?Come on, grandpa!? Eric cried, as his grandfather neared the end of the course. Huffing and puffing, Ben finally reached his grandson, as the other teams all drove away.

?Being the last team to leave for the airport was hard on me, but I guess it really taught me that you have to have patience. In this scenario, every team is only as strong as it?s weakest member, but in some ways it?s my grandpa, and in other ways, it?s me.? ~ Eric (Benjamin & Eric)

Currently in third place, twins Veronica & Daniel had managed to forge ahead of the other teams that they had gotten to the cluebox with. ?Make a right here, Vee,? Dan dictated from the back. ?Which exit do I get off on?? she said, looking both ways as she turned. ?Twelve,? Dan responded. ?At this rate, we?re gonna be on that first flight,? Vee told her brother. ?Twins work best, I guess,? Dan said, smiling at his sister.

?We normally fight a lot, so it was a great surprise to me to realize that we truthfully get along. It?s just nice to be with my twin brother again, I guess,? ~ Veronica (Veronica & Daniel)

?Driving in the wrong direction has never been this fun, has it?? joked Suzie to her husband, Alan, as the two drove forward. ?That isn?t funny!? Alan said, growing increasingly frustrated. Soon, a team passed them. ?Hunnie, we?re getting passed already. We?re gonna be sitting here forever if you don?t pick up the pace,? Suzie mentioned, trying to tame her husband?s anger. ?Let me drive, Suzie. You just sit back there, and tell me where to go. You can?t be both team members? sweetie,? Alan said, noticing the look on his wife?s face change from that of caution to that of obscurity and unfamiliarity. As she looked in the window, Suzie realized that not only was a team about to pass them, but they were virtually doomed, as their relationship caved down on her.

?Our relationship is a very complex one. We were married by the time we were twenty years old, and have been together ever since, with three wonderful children.? ~ Alan (Suzie & Alan)
?We don?t spend too much time together, though, so we decided that this would be something neat to try and improve our relationship. I wouldn?t say that Alan?s known for being the most calm person on the planet.? ~ Suzie (Suzie & Alan)
?And Sue over here isn?t known for being the quietest person on the planet.? ~ Alan (Suzie & Alan)

?We just passed the married couple, didn?t we, hun?? Sarah asked Rachel. ?I dunno, babe. Let me drive, ok?? Rachel replied, clearly uninterested in her girlfriend?s chatter. ?Yeah, babe,? Sarah replied, sighing deeply.

?My real motive for signing-up for the race is to even out our relationship. I?m sick of being the one that has to be put onto the back burner. Rachel?s my first priority, but I?m farther down the list for her.? ~ Sarah (Rachel & Sarah)

Summer bit her lip. ?Em, I think we need to pull over. We?re like, almost out of gas,? she told her stepsister from the backseat. ?Didn?t we leave the park like ten minutes ago?? Emma joked. ?Nothing we can do. Look of the draw, I guess,? Summer shrugged and leaned back again, as Emma pulled into a gas station nearby. ?We?re losing time. This sucks,? she said, in a frustrated tone.

?Before the race, we sat down and talked about the things that we need to change to run a successful race. Emma told me not to be so high-maintenance, and to let loose, and I told her not to drop the f-bomb every time something goes wrong,? ~ Summer (Summer & Emma)
?It isn?t my *BEEP* fault that I get really frustrated. I?m sick of this *BEEP*.? ~ Emma (Summer & Emma)

?Running high, running low! Hit it Jules!? Taryn sang as she drove, ?I was running into? OVERLOAD!? Julie sang back. ?I?ve got a new attitude!? they sang together. ?We?re so in last, Tar!? Julie laughed, staring at the map. ?Yeah, well. Let?s just keep singing our toons-kies,? Taryn giggled, spitting out her made-up words. ?Where do you come up with this stuff?? Julie laughed, again. In truth, however, the roomies were in anything but last.

?We?re here to win the money, but have fun and meet new people at the same time. I?ve never been anywhere outside of the States, so I?m hoping that I?m gonna get to experience things that I?ve only been able to dream of up to now. I have no guys in my life right now, so Taryn is the perfect person for me to run this race with. We live together, and we always have so much fun together. We haven?t known each other for too long, but we?ve become really good friends.? ~ Julie (Taryn & Julie)

As they had expected, Veronica & Daniel were the first to reach the airport and waited for a shuttle outside of where they had parked their car. Having just missed one, they sat on the curb, expecting to wait a while for the next to come. During their wait, however, they were joined by Samos & Ryan, Kyshawn & Dave, and out-of-the-blue-team Jeremy & Sara. As the parents joined the other three waiting teams at the curb, Sara decided to ask a few questions. ?Are we the first four teams?? she asked Kyshawn, as she became increasingly annoyed with the mother. Rolling her eyes to Dave, her boyfriend smiled, and shrugged his shoulders.

?Jeremy and I know that we aren?t going to get along and we?re fine with it. It?s the other teams that aren?t going to be happy with the way we act during the race. I think it might take some of the pressure off of Jeremy behaving.? ~ Sara (Jeremy & Sara)

Climbing onto the shuttle, Samos looked to his buddy, and spoke in a dull whisper, when he mentioned what was bothering him. ?There are only three spots on the first flight.? Ryan looked back at him and glanced at the other teams, chatting amongst themselves. ?We?ll have to dash for it. I think we can beat some of them,? he implied, hoping that they wouldn?t be left behind.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth & Zachary were still lost. ?Do you have any idea where you?re going?? Zachary asked. ?I really shouldn?t have driven, right?? she asked, looking for support from her fianc?. ?Nah, we?ll be fine. It?s only the first half hour of the race. Don?t freak yet,? he mentioned.

?Zach keeps his cool when I know I can?t and it bothers me a lot. It?s hard to freak out and then see that somebody else is so collected.? ~ Elizabeth (Elizabeth & Zachary)

Directly behind the couple were married grandparents Steve & Adele, who rolled down their window and screamed over to their competitors. ?Any idea where the airport is?? Adele asked from the back, hoping that they?d have the answer. ?No idea at all,? Zach replied back. ?I?ll follow you guys,? Steve shouted. Zach shrugged and rolled the window back up.

The first bus reached the airport entrance, and Samos & Ryan hopped off first, racing into the terminal. Directly behind them were Kyshawn & Dave, who were trying their hardest to catch-up to the leading guys. Getting into line, Samos penned himself and Ryan onto the first bus, and Dave did the same for her and Kyshawn. Casually striding into the airport, Jeremy & Sara looked around for the sign-up sheet, but when they had finally located it, Veronica had already made it, bumping the parents onto the second flight. Defeated, they went and sat on their own in the corner, as the leading teams celebrated their triumph.

Rushing into the airport, Summer & Emma were the second team to sign onto the second flight, followed closely by Alan & Suzie, and finally Taryn & Julie. ?Looks like you?re the only piece of meat on the flight,? Taryn joked to Alan. The married parents laughed it off, and started chatting with the roommates. ?They?re nice girls,? Suzie revealed in an on-location confessional.

As they arrived at the airport, Benjamin & Eric, Steve & Adele, Elizabeth & Zachary, and Rachel & Sarah were forced onto the third flight. ?My prediction is that one of us teams will obviously be eliminated at the end of the leg,? Sarah mentioned. ?Let?s hope for a miracle,? Eric commented, as his grandfather stood by, looking as beat as ever.

Hours later, the first flight landed in Brisbane, launching the three teams into an assault to gather into first place. ?Run your ass off,? Daniel mentioned to his sister, as she took a deep breath, to show her agreement. Getting to the clue in first place, Kyshawn & Dave ripped open the next clue, and learned that they were to head to a nearby hotel, as pictured in an attached map. ?I guess we have to get there by cab,? Kyshawn said, as she whistled to gain the attention of one. ?Exciting. The real race is about to begin,? Dave added.

?It felt like we were racing to be the first team, not the last. We haven?t had a brush with elimination yet, so I can?t comment on how nerve-wracking it is, yet.? ~ Kyshawn (Kyshawn & Dave)

Directly behind Kyshawn & Dave, and currently in second place, were the twins, Vee & Dan. Bad luck hit Samos & Ryan, however, who had major trouble with getting their bags. Eventually doing so, Samos wasn?t afraid to show his true feelings. ?This is bullshit. We lost our first place shot because of our bags. I can?t get over how ridiculous this is!? Ryan looked on in silence as the two sat in their cab.

As they arrived at the hotel, Kyshawn & Dave graciously made their way to the cluebox, and ripped it open. ?Make your way to the penthouse floor by the stairs,? Kyshawn read, giving Dave a look. ?What?? he asked, as she frowned. ?Attitude problems, Dave?? she asked, angrily, as he rolled his eyes. ?Let?s just go,? he finished. As the couple took off up the stairs, Veronica & Daniel arrived at the hotel, and read the clue. ?I say we try and beat the others up the stairs,? Dan suggested. ?Alright, let?s go,? she replied, beginning to dash. On the stairs, however, Kyshawn & Dave were going way too fast for the twins to keep-up, and arrived at the top rather quickly. ?This place is so beautiful!? Kyshawn said, admiring the sculpting. The way that the afternoon sun beamed down on the apartment made it almost seem to glow, with the illusion of unsurpassable beauty. The couple stopped to admire it, but then quickly gathered their next clue. ?DETOUR,? said Dave, smiling at Kyshawn.

A DETOUR is a choice between two tasks, each with it?s own pros and cons. In this DETOUR, teams would have to choose between ?Face First? and ?Feet First?. Teams opting for Face First had to don safety gear, step out onto the ledge of the hotel, and do an Australian, or Face First, rappel right off the ledge of the building 200 feet down, one team member at a time. While the task could be terrifying, if they muster the courage, a team could complete it quickly. Teams choosing Foot First had to spot a building across the way with the race flag on top, travel on foot down the hotel stairs, walk to the other building and up 30 flights of stairs to where the route marker was waiting. While not a frightening option, walking all that way could be tiring and take a long time.

?We?re doing the rappel, right?? Kyshawn assumed, as Dave gave her an obvious look. She smiled back, and the team prepared to don themselves up for the ?freaky? task. Samos & Ryan, who had recently arrived at the hotel, and Veronica & Daniel were just about reaching the top, however, and the two watched as their lead diminished. ?This is such a shot to the head,? Kyshawn said disapprovingly. ?We?re all here now. Damn. I thought we were more ahead than this,? Dave agreed. While they waited to begin, the second flight to Brisbane had just arrived. ?Sprint!? Summer said to Emma, as they jogged to the next clue. Currently in fourth place, they quickly got a taxi and were on their way to the hotel, with Alan & Suzie right behind. ?Run, Jeremy!? Sara called as her partner walked. ?Listen, Sara. Don?t be a bitch and expect me to wanna listen to you. Things don?t work that way,? Jeremy antagonized, as Sara held her breath. ?Everybody else is running! Don?t you want to get ahead?? she asked, slowing down. ?We aren?t in last! Who cares?? he replied. As they argued, Alan & Suzie climbed into a cab and began the drive down. ?The sisters are ahead of us, but the other girls and the single parents are still back there, right?? Alan assumed correctly. Suzie rolled her eyes and looked at her husband with a look of aggravation, ?Why should I know? Use your common fucking sense, Al.?

?Getting off the flight, we knew we had to give it all we had. We were the oldest team on the flight, but we didn?t want to give up already. We?re not bottom feeders.? ~ Suzie (Alan & Suzie)

At the hotel, Dave edged out Daniel at the rappel down the face of the hotel wall, while Kyshawn and Veronica smiled at one another before the second round began, even though Kyshawn had a slight advantage from her boyfriend?s early finish. Despite trying her hardest, Kyshawn lost the time she had earned, and Veronica beat her down the wall, leaving the twins in first place.

?We made up a lot of time at the DETOUR, and I was proud of my sister. She caught me when I fucked-up and let that other guy beat me down the wall. I think we?re both glad about who we signed-up for this with.? ~ Daniel (Veronica & Daniel)

?I?m proud of you anyway,? Dave said, kissing Kyshawn on the cheek when she reached the bottom moments after Veronica. The two girls got unharnessed, and together, the two teams ripped open the next clue, tied for first place, while Samos reached the bottom, and Ryan prepared to rappel. ?Drive yourselves...?

Teams would now have to drive themselves 43 miles to the town of Mooloolaba, and proceed to Underwater World, where at the entrance, they?d find their next clue.

?When we read that we had to drive 40 miles, we knew that the standings were gonna be messed with. We knew it?d be better to go slower and not lose our pacing, then just speed and then realize we?re doing it all wrong,? ~ Dave (Kyshawn & Dave)

As the two leading teams left, and Samos & Ryan got closer to doing so, the other teams began to arrive. After passing Summer & Emma in their cab, Alan & Suzie enjoyed being currently in fourth, but the sisters were close behind. Arriving at the hotel, the married couple decided to take their time up the stairs, while the sisters decided to jog up. Noticing that Summer & Emma were on their tail, Alan began to pressure Suzie into picking up the pace, and the married parents kept their lead to the top, while Jeremy & Sara narrowly beat out Taryn & Julie to the hotel, and dashing up the stairs, both teams were able to nearly catch the other teams, as they began to rappel. Alan became the first down the wall, with Emma finishing just a minute or so afterwards. ?Come on Summer!? Emma called from below, as her stepsister prepared to pass Suzie on the way down. While Summer openly accepted the challenge, Suzie was visibly nervous, and with the time given, Jeremy was able to reach the bottom, just as Summer got down, followed by Julie. Suzie, however, had lost the lead that Alan had worked hard to gain for the two of them, and when they finished just ahead of Jeremy & Sara, to find Summer & Emma already gone, and the other teams close behind. ?Damn it, Suzie!? Alan said in agony, as Suzie just ran into the backseat of the car.

While the teams began their drive to Mooloolaba, the final flight landed in Brisbane. Getting off rather quickly, Steve & Adele took off for the hotel. ?Gosh, Steve, this has been difficult!? Adele remarked in the backseat of a cab. ?We?re too old for this!? Steve said, winking at the camera. The two shared a hug and laughed rather quickly. Behind them, Rachel & Sarah planned to pass them. ?They?re really nice people, but this is a race to be the best, not be the nicest to the old couple,? Sarah said. ?Oh, I love it when you?re evil,? Rachel added, as her partner smiled at her. ?Did they just pass us?? Adele asked, peering out her window to see the girlfriends laughing. ?Can you make sure we beat them there?? Adele asked the driver, attempting to give them an advantage.

Back at the airport, Elizabeth & Zachary and Benjamin & Eric were receiving rotten luck, as giving their bags into storage for the flight seemed to do them in. ?We?re still waiting, and the others left a good while ago,? Eric said, adding, ?but at least we know we?re not totally in last. That?s always a plus.?

?It sucked. We knew we were better than that, but we were stuck there. It?s never good to have an early brush with elimination. It just was our rotten luck.? ~ Zachary (Elizabth & Zachary)

The two teams finally found their baggage at around the same time, and took off for the hotel. The grandfather and grandson duo narrowly beat the engaged couple, after their cab driver got last on the way over. While the two teams made their way up the stairs, Rachel & Sarah, and Steve & Adele raced to complete the rappel down the wall. When Rachel and Adele began at nearly the same moment, a race to the bottom became heated. ?Adele, you?re my hero!? Steve yelled, making his wife smile. Though Rachel beat her, Adele was welcomed down with a kiss and a hug.

?He supports me, and I love him for it. We?re meant to be, and we both know it.? ~ Adele (Steve & Adele)

Eric easily rappelled down the wall, but Benjamin began to struggle. Elizabeth & Zachary, pleased to see that the others hadn?t gathered too large of a lead, also decided on the rappel, meaning all teams had done so. In a race to the bottom, Elizabeth beat Benjamin by a longshot, and soon enough, all teams were headed out to Mooloolaba. While the bottom teams began their drove, however, Samos & Ryan became the first team to make it to Underwater World. ?There?s the clue!? Ryan said, as they parked their car.

Teams would now have to decide whether or not they were going to try and earn more money, or not. If teams decided to try and earn an extra $250, they?d have to proceed inside, get suited up, and find one of eleven envelopes inside, containing the money. Once teams enter Underwater World, however, they are not allowed to leave without the envelope. Teams choosing not to go for the money, or once teams that finished had gotten the money, needed to head another 80 miles out to the town of Ferny Hills, where they would need to find a marked woolshed, and search through giant stacks of wool for their next clue.

?We weren?t sure if we were in first, but knowing we were ahead, we decided it?d be cool to just go for it. We walked down, and realized we were in first. It was amazing!? ~ Samos (Samos & Ryan)

Getting the equipment, and preparing for the dive, Samos & Ryan were given one warning. "Just watch out for the sharks," their intructor told them. Moments after diving in, Veronica & Daniel and Kyshawn & Dave pulled into the parking lot. "Okay, more money or first place, what's it gonna be?" Vee asked her twin. Daniel could see Kyshawn and Dave suiting up in the diving outfits, and nodded. "Let's just go, we don't need money." Agreeing as usual, Vee and Dan left for Ferny Hills.

On the road to the Underwater World, Alan could see Summer & Emma just ahead of him. "I'm gonna pass them," he informed his wife. She seemed worried, "They might not like us if we do that, Alan." Not heeding her words, Alan began bucking it passed the stepsisters, laughing like an idiot the whole way. "I don't get you Suzie. You get mad cause I won't run, but don't want me to speed. Make up your mind!" Meanwhile, Emma was spouting off curse words. "Damnit, Suzie and her husband just passed us, Summer! *BLEEP*!"

Only a few minutes behind them was Jeremy & Sara."You sure we're going the right way?" Sara asked her fellow parent. "No, Sara," Jeremy answered frustrated. "I'm not sure of anything right now, okay?" While they took a wrong turn, Taryn and Julie unknowingly passed the parents. "This is so damn frutrating," Jeremy spouted, "I don't see Underwater World anywhere on our damn map! Ugh!" Sara just groaned, not helping at all, ready to give up. "We are so dead." She told herself.

Back at the Underwater World, Samos & Ryan experienced the wonders of the water. Keeping close as to not attract sharks, they easily managed to find their envelope. Following the co workers, Kyshawn and Dave got out moments after them.

"It was an unforgettable experience. I've been in this race only one day and already I've done something I'll never be able to do again." ~ Kyshawn (Kyshawn & Dave)

Just as Samos & Ryan and Kyshawn & Dave were leaving, Alan & Suzie appeared in the parking lot with Summer & Emma right on their tails. "The two big guys and the black and white couple just left," Suzie told her husband. The two read the clue and were given the same option as the previous teams. Both of them opted against taking the chance at extra money and began the long trip to Ferny Hills. Taryn and Julie arrived a bit later, and also continued on without taking the bonus. "Let's just go, we can't afford any lost time now," Julie insisted.

Back on the road, Jeremy & Sara quickly began to realize that they were going no where and fast. "Let's just pull over," Sara finally reasoned, not waiting for Jeremy's input. They pulled over and talked to someone at a gas station. "Underwater World? That way, not too far now." The owner pointed them in the right direction and they headed out. "I can't believe we were going the wrong damn way," Jeremy muttered. "Some driver you turned out to be." He taunted.

Because of Jeremy & Sara's lost time, Rachel & Sarah along with Steve & Adele had pulled ahead and made up some lost places. "Money? Nah, let's go," Sarah decided. "We don't need any extra money," Adele told her husband of several years. Jeremy & Sara finally found the Underwater World next, pulling in and getting their clue. "We're too far behind now, let's go Jeremy." Sara began getting into her car. "No way, extra money is a great idea. I'm going in." Shocked at his obviously dumb choice, Sara screamed at her fellow parent to think about it, but he just suited up, suggesting she do it too. "This is gonna friggin eliminate us, I hope you know that," She shot at him as she suited up.

"I was furious at him! We had this perfectly fine position in the race and he blew it all just for some extra cash, which we didn't even need! What the hell!?" ~ Sara (Jeremy & Sara)

The two dived down and rushed around the sharks, looking about. As they did, Elizabeth & Zach with Ben & Eric came in and left, knowing better then to wait for money over elimination.

"I was ecstatic when we saw there was another car there doing the money dive. We still have a chance!" ~ Elizabeth (Elizabeth & Zachary)

Just entering Ferny Hills, Veronica and Daniel celebrated with their huge lead. "I can't even stress how amazing it is to be ahead of ten other teams right now," Daniel grinned from the driver's seat. "Not going for the extra money had paid off really well." Veronica agreed from the back seat. They both pulled over and hurried into the woolshed. Working together, they started tackling the smelly stacks of wool for a clue.

Back at Underwater World, Sara and Jeremy sped out of the parking lot $250 richer. "That was such a stupid mistake," Sara repeated. "Are you crazy? That was the coolest thing I've ever done. How often do you get to swim with sharks, Sara?" This one kept Sarah quiet, as he did have a point. That was one experience they would never repeat.

With all teams now on their way to catch up with Veronica and Daniel, the race was truly on. Keeping their lead wide open, Veronica & Daniel shocked Samos & Ryan when they left with their clue just moments after the two men arrived. After finishing the wool searching task, teams would have to drive roughly 15 miles to the Brisbane Grand Hall, a famous australian museum that was once the Town Hall of one of the oldest cities on the continent. This would be the first pit stop of the race. That team to check in, may be eliminated.

Samos & Ryan were greeted by Kyshawn & Dave, who arrived third. "Where are the twins?" Kyshawn asked as the two began to dig the wool stacks themselves. Ryan, who was buried under plently of wool already, replied with "They finished already." The interracial couple exchanged glances, "I knew we should have just skipped the money task," Dave sighed.

On the road, Taryn & Julie began to pull to the side of Summer & Emma. Without thinking, Emma slowed down so they talk to the roommates, but were surprised when Taryn pulled ahead of them. "Another team just *BLEEP* passed us. This is messed up, Summer." The petite Summer just kept quiet. "Ugh, I'll give them a peice of my mind!"

"It's hard to stand up to Emma sometimes, even when she gets angry. I guess I'm too shy and I'm worried I'll piss her off." ~ Summer (Summer & Emma)

Alan & Suzie came into the woolshed, pleased to find two other teams still working to find a clue buried underneath the huge pounds of smelly wool. Moments later, in came Taryn & Julie followed by Summer & Emma. "Five teams," Samos muttered, "So much for a great lead."

Meanwhile, Phil stood waiting with an Australian friend of his at the Brisbane Grand Hall. He was not surprised when he saw the african american twins running with their packs down the walkway. "Veronica and Daniel," Phil smiled at them, "You are team number ONE!" The twins bursted into cheers, laughing. "We didn't take the money," Dan grinned broadly. "And first place is better then any amount of money you can give us." Not able to resist the urge, Phil continued. "As winners of the first leg of the race, you have won a complete home makeover, courtesy of Home Depot, which you guys will enjoy after the race." Hugging again, the twins went for the twelve hour rest period.

Back at the woolshed, the five teams scrambled throughout the barn to find a clue. "This is so frustrating," Dave complained, trying to keep his cool. Everyone looked over when Suzie screamed out, "I got it, Alan!" in joy. For the first time since the race started, the married couple shared a big hug at completing the task. "Bam, let's do this," Ryan told his friend when he grabbed a clue as well. The two teams left, leaving three teams battling it out, having absolutely no luck. "We've been here the longest," Kyshawn complained, "Why can't we just get a break?" To their dismay, Taryn & Julie collected their clue next and left. "Oh man...I can't do this," Summer groaned, "Emma, I think we're done." Emma only shook her head, "Suck it up, baby, we ain't done yet."

Back at the pit stop, Alan & Suzie put aside their differences, put their hands together, and stepped on the mat. Phil looked grim, but only for suspense. "Alan and Suzie," he began to open his smile, "You are team number two!" The two kissed and celebrated, laughing at the turn of events. They moved off the mat so Samos & Ryan could get their turn. "Samos and Ryan, you guys are team number three." Nodding, they slapped high fives and did their secret handshake. "Groovy," Samos laughed. "Not what we wanted, but we'll take it," Ryan nodded.

"I think this first leg has shown us that we can work together if we have to. We both have to change something about us, and if we can somehow accept that, we could win." ~ Suzie (Alan & Suzie)

Rachel & Sarah and Steve & Adele came into the woolshed just as Kyshawn got her clue. She screamed in joy and hurried out with her boyfriend. "Wow, these stink," Adele commented as they dove down into the wool. Muttering, Emma continued her search for a clue.

Kyshawn & Dave noticed a huge traffic jam building up on the way to pit stop and quickly moved to take the long way around. Not realizing it, Taryn and Julie had got themselves stuck in the jam. "This is just our luck," Julie laughed. "Right on the way to the pit stop, we screw up. Just. Our. Luck." Taryn honked the horn in frustration.

Elizabeth & Zachary came in to meet the other teams. After a few minutes, Benjamin & Eric slipped in as well. "Uh...that's way too dirty..." Eric seemed hesitant, but his grandfather pulled him into the wool piles. "Come on!" He laughed, "Let's search!" The two laughed up the joke, showing their close bond. Just as Jeremy & Sara were walking into the woolshed, Summer found their clue with relief.

Phil wasn't surprised when he saw Kyshawn & Dave walking up together to the mat. The Australian man greeted them. "Kyshawn and Dave...you are team number...four!" The two screamed together in shock and gave each other a deep hug, laughing. "You left the woolshed fifth, but you guys here fourth. How does that make you feel?" Kyshawn looked up at Dave, smiling. "That anything is possible." She replied. In complete coinicidence, Taryn and Julie came running down and met Kyshawn and Dave. "Taryn and Julie, you're team number five." They sighed, "What can you do?" Julie asked, "Luck is part of the game too."

Night was just starting the threaten the sky. "I can't believe this," Zachary mumbled, "Ten people are here and we can't find even one clue." Just as his complaint hit the air, his fiance` jumped up with a clue in the far corner of the huge shed. Jeremy and Sara, who had only been there a few minutes, began to work overtime.

Just as Rachel and Sarah got their clue, Phil welcomed in Summer & Emma. "Summer and Emma, you guys are team number six." The two smiled and hugged Phil out of happiness. "We spent so long in that damn shed," Emma laughed, "We left just as the last team came in. I can't believe how hard those clues were to find." About twenty minutes later, Phil was greeted by another team, this time a surprising duo. "Elizabath and Zachary," Phil had to chuckle, as he couldn't believe how the two managed it, "You are team number seven." Just behind them came in the dating couple, Rachel and Sarah, and Phil dubbed them team number eight.

"Adele! Adele! Right here, I knew there was a place I didn't look!" Steve yelled in excitement. He waved the clue up in the air, excitedly. They left, leaving only two teams. Benjamin & Eric, and Jeremy & Sara. "If we get eliminated, we are through," Sara threatened. "You are your stupid choices." Minutes passed and finally a clue was found. Benjamin looked up in dismay as Jeremy waved the clue in the air happily. They didn't say a word to the grandfather and grandson, just leaving. "We're done," Eric sighed, "We lost."

"Steve and Adele," Phil welcomed the grandparents, "You're team number nine!" The two grinned, holding hands. "You guys happy?" Phil smiled. "I think I'm happy to know that no matter what number we are, she with me," Steve curved his lips into a grin. The two left, and a few minutes later came the last safe team. Phil looked grim, as if about to bring troublesome news. "Jeremy and Sarah..." he began, as if cut off by sadness. Then he grinned, "You are team number ten!" Neither of them hugged, but they both celebrated by showing their approval, laughing. "Do you think you guys did well together?" Phil asked them. "No," Jeremy said honestly. "But I think we're going to have to start, or we're doomed."

"I give up," Eric said for the tenth time, laying on a stack of wool. "Just stop, grandpa, we're through. No use in going on anymore." Eric, who had been searching the whole time, scoffed. "Eric, I don't care if we lose it or not, we are getting to that pit stop and that is final!" Eric wasn't convinced and just stayed there. After a few minutes, Ben found the clue all on his lonesome, but seemed proud of himself for not quitting. He hurried Eric along into the car, who had by far just given up all hope. "Who cares if we lost, kid? We're gonna finish, and that's all that matters."

In the dead night, Phil watched as Ben and his grandson walked onto the mat. Both were smiling, just because of the situation. "Benjamin and Eric," he said sadly, "You are the last team to arrive." Ben nodded, knowing what was coming next, but not caring. "I'm sorry to tell you, you've both been eliminated from the Amazing Race." They nodded, knowing it. Both kept smiling. "Are you proud of your grandfather?" Phil asked Eric. "I don't think words can express just how happy I am to have a partner like grandpa. Even when all hope was lost, he kept going. He just wanted to get here, win or lose. I gave up...but he didn't." Phil smiled over at Ben, "Do you think your grandson was a good partner?" Eric smiled at his grandfather, who put an arm around him. "I couldn't think of anyone better. I wanted to get here for him. No matter how he dresses, how he talks, or who he likes, Eric is still my grandson. He showed me that he hasn't changed, so I wanted to show him that I haven't either." Eric laughed and hugged his grandfather, who was in near tears. "You showed me, grandpa, you're amazing." Phil himself had to brush a tear away.
