Can a person play as a recruit for anytime that needs him/her? I don't really have a team, but I was wondering if it'd be possible to sub for any team that would need another player should the opportunity ever arise.

Or do I need to be on a team for sure?

If you're talking about being a type of freelance substitute, then no. But if you see an opening in a team's roster for a second substitute like the one in Team XTREME's, then I'll make the changes for you to be that second. Only thing is that these teams are perminate once past the deadline.

You can pick up whoever you want, I'm just not going to registure them as 'free agents'. Another one of the reasons I want this done earlier so that people that want to participate can look at the list of teams already set up and go ask to join them as a sub or something.

I'm pretty sure Goten said, somewhere, that its not reqiured, but if someone gets injured in a game, you'd be down a player.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't find someone who would jump onto your team.
