There are so many bugs in this game to be worth $50. Unless you own one of three specific video drivers (ATI, NVidia, or S3), there will be no background, and each leader's face will be floating eyes and teeth. Then, whenever you build a world wonder, there is a fairly high chance the game will freeze and completely shut down.

And let's not forget how f'ing powerful your computer is going to have to be to be able to tolerate it. It takes about a half an hour to load any map, and even more to start a new game. And then in game, you have to wait about 5 minutes between turns before you can do anything else.

And if you want to quit, don't even bother trying to close it manually. It'll take another half an hour for it to close. Just use Ctrl+Alt+Del to close it. It'll be a few minutes faster.

Now, if you own some incredible super computer that exceeds the "recommended" levels for gameplay, you may enjoy this. IF you have one of those three video cards. Unless it's ATI or NVidia, because then, you're going to get to deal with a render error that will force you to go through uninstallation of the game, downloading a patch to fix it, but DON'T install the patch until you've reinstalled the game, or else you're going to cause even more problems.

This just pisses me off so much. I'm sorry. If someone here actually likes this game, and can play without it dying on them, or moving at the rate of a turn every ten minutes, then all the more power to you. I'm about to go sell it to someone else so I can buy a different game.

Well, it just froze up again because it tried to load one of its movies showing the completion of a wonder. If you can tell me how to turn those stupid movies off and keep them from playing, it'd be much appreciated. If there's no way to, I'm definitely selling this waste of money.

I hear C4 is supposed to be one of the better games that came out this year, but has a shitload of bugs in it. Hence why I'm skeptical about purchasing. I've got a ATI 256mb card but I still don't feel assured.

Well it could be rated best game of the century for all I care. If the thing can't play on a regular comp that's only 2 years old, and has bugs and crashes all over the place, I couldn't care less.

It's a pity you need the top of the line computers just to play the recent games these days. I'd love F.E.A.R, but I'm afraid my computer won't run it. You'd think with something like Civ 4, a 2 year old computer could run it.

And I can still run WoW ez.

The only "weak point" in my hardware is my video card. Which kinda bites the big one. But I'm capable of running everything I've tried running, so I've decided against shelling out for better shit. =\

D'yo overclock it? Otherwise it must have been pretty well made for its time.

WoW is a fantastic piece of game tech-wise however. It doesn't require huge specs to play, unlike a lot of poorly-designed games like SWG which require a supercomputer to play, even though the graphics are barely on par with WoW. I couldn't play SWG on my desktop, but I can play WoW fine on my laptop (512 ram, either 1.5 or 1.2 Ghz CPU, and a crappy graphics card).

So yeah, I can understand 20's frustration. As long as a game is designed wisely, it shouldn't require a supercomputer to play. Playability > Graphics.

Oh, well. The most demanding game I have is UT2k4. And I've never experienced a drop in framerate. So, I'm happy. For now.

Well, I figured out how the crash keeps occuring. But it still doesn't explain why it moves at the pace of a handicapped snail.

I think it's the video driver I've got. According to 2K Games, Civ 4 is not COMPLETELY compatible with all Intel video drivers. This means people with their default video drivers are probably gonna get the same problem I am.

The thing's only two years old... that and we download the system updates when they come through. So I still don't see any reason why it should be doing this.
