Medically, scientifically, it looks like an amazing achievement. Certainly no easy task. Kudos to the application of skill.

Ethically, morally, what's the point? The rabbit probably had a perfectly good face to begin with. Poor little bunny.

I'm kind of mixed on the subject. I'm okay with it if's for medical or practical reasons, like if someone has a really fucked up face from a car accident and needs a new one so they don't make little kids pee themselves.

I've never been a fan of surgery just so you can look better (that includes breast implants. Not that I'm against them, I just don't think it makes a breast any more appealing). I'm also with Bardock, this particular surgery seems pointless. They used this innocent rabbit, putting it's life on the line, so they can say "hey, look, we can do it too!"

I agree with Bardock and BJ. Its messed up that they would alter that rabbit that way all for teh sake of saying 'Hey, we can do it too!' but it was also for science. There are other ways of doing this, with as much research that has been done in the feild of transplant surgery, why go and mess with innocent animals? Well, at least I'm not a PETA freak...those guys are on crack or somethig...anyhoo. That is just rediculous.

I don't know what the status of the rabbit was prior to surgery, and since it's china, probably nothing. Though I still think it's amazing what they accomplished.

Think about how many rabbits they killed trying to get one successfully altered. Kinda scary.

Better rabbits than people. =\

rabbits and other animals get treated far crueler and by the hundreds in plenty of places.

it's two rabbits, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things.

if you want to see something cruel and wrong check out that peta video of the animals being skinned alive for their fur.

here ignoring their all their radical anti fur trash they forcefeed you on the site the video is still pretty chilling.

Actually, I believe my dad's law firm is in charge of the legal aspects of face transplants and the like. There's currently a bit of worry about what sort of identity issues this could cause, should it eventually be allowed for humans to do to themselves. It's a touchy subject, and I don't see the point in making face transplants availabe to the typical public. We don't need them, we've got our own damn faces, and should be happy with what we have. Only if we get in some permanently disfiguring accident that would prevent us from leading a normal life should we consider allowing someone to have a face transplant.

Hell, i feel guilty killing that three inch spider crawling just on the wall beside my bed...he can bite me and make me have a hella alergic reaction, I'll prolly go into spasms and end up in ICU, but at least that poor spider would be just straight chillin on the wall above my bed, all 8 legs intact...oh well.

That was in China, and it was the first transplant of it's kind. They have not done it on humans there. It's still in the early stages of research. The rabbit that they put on was probably already dead, and the rabbit is perfectly healthy, I really don't see it as being "too" inhumane. In the grand scheme of things it was more helpful than anything else.

Also... there are many laws passed that say it is illegal to test such things on humans. Though I do agree that if they're willing to pay the participant, they should make it legal.

I can't see this ever going on and becoming a typical plastic surgery routine, namely because it would require a recently deceased person to be the donor for the person. There are not many people who allow their organs to be harvested for science once they have passed, and because of that it's like this will only be done in the situations you mentioned such as scarring and such.

on a related topic, this was done to a person in the US (I believe) where the woman had tried to kill herself by ODing on pills, and her dog came and started biting her in the face. She woke up, and had the surgery done, and they put the dog to sleep.

In my opinion the dog was trying to save her life by biting her, the only way it could think of waking her up. Chances are if she had the dog all it's life and this was the first time it started biting her, the dog wasn't trying to just maul her. I think they should have switched positions, and they just should have put the woman down.
