That's the card-based one, right? What's it like?

From what I've heard of Chain of Memories, I think the basic plot is to regain your memories by reliving them, kinda. I played it for about 10 minutes and decided it didn't have the right KH feel. BTW, I'm playing KH2 right now, and I'm about to fight the MCP. OMG Tron.

Chain of Memories is actually really sweet so far. The system, as far as anything I've played, is entirely innovative, and still maintains the fast-pacedness of actual gameplay. Yes, it is card-based, but look at it like this. FFX is a turn-based RPG, and Pokemon/Yugioh are turn-based card RPGs. Kingdom Hearts 1 employs a real-time battle system, and so does Chain of Memories. You have a "deck" in which you place attack cards. By pressing the A button, you use this attack cards against the enemies, while moving around them and trying to dodge their attacks. Each card you use is discarded, but by "reloading" your deck (basically, standing still and keeping the A button held down for a certain length of time), you get these cards back. Of course, you also get Spell Cards, Item Cards, Summon Cards, etc.

Finally, Donald and Goofy do not fight alongside you as they did. Instead, they also are in the form of "cards" that will drop randomly on your fight. By using them, they jump in, do their thing, and jump out shortly after.

Every card has a number, from 0-9. Of course, while you're attacking, your enemy is attacking as well. They also use "cards". Here's where it gets interesting. If you use a 8 attack card, and your enemy uses a 4 attack card, your attack will override their attack, performing what's called a Card Break. Essentially, their attack is immediately stopped, and their card is immediately discarded. Of course, this happens to you. If you play a 2 attack card, and your opponent plays a 4 attack card, your attack will be stopped, and you will be stunned for about a second. It should be noted that I do not believe the numbers on the cards actually relate to how much damage you do. It should also be noted that discarded cards are NEVER lost permanently. As soon as the battle is done, your deck is completely recharged.

Finally, an interesting idea is the ability to stock up to 3 cards at the same time. If you do this with attack cards, the numbers will add up, and boost your attack value, thereby lowering your chance of being Card Break-ed (broken, I know. Shut up). But, with certain combinations, better things might happen. For example, of you stock 3 Cure cards, you will perform the Curaga spell. If you stock 3 Cloud Summon Cards, Cloud will perform Omnislash when he is summoned, instead of his usual two blade slash. Unfortunately, when you stock cards, the first card you stock is lost for the rest of the battle, and CAN NOT be reloaded.

The system is actually entirely innovative, and I find it a lot more fun than the original PS2 battle system. The story isn't as moving or deep (thus far, anyway), but Axel looks awesome, and the speech in here definitely leaves a lot to chew on. The game is definitely quite good, and if you have a chance to, I definitely recommend picking it up. Or borrow it, like I am.

It's alright if you're into that kind of thing, but I thought it was disappointing. The plot was lacking a bit...to repetitive, and the whole thing just didn't do it for me...I bought it because I heard the cut scenes were PS2 graphics.

Which is true...but there are only like...2 or 3 movie scenes in the whole game. The rest are just narrated GBA scenes.

EDIT: Krillin's explanation is better, and he's faster.

PBK: You seriously thought a GBA would have PS2-quality graphics? o.0

Krillin: That sounds like it could be pretty fun. Towards the end of the game, though, I could see some of the enemies/bosses pulling out some really cheap-ass decks. I'm generally a huge fan of card-based games. I'm actually playing through MGA2 right now.

Well, I dunno about later in the game yet. So far, it seems as though you play through each world you played in KH1. I've gone through Traverse Town, Wonderland, Monstro (just as boring as it was in KH1), the Coliseum, and Agrabah. Halloween Town is next, and I dunno after that.

Castle Oblivion is the hub for all this. For each floor you go up in the castle, you go through another one of the Worlds in your memories. I don't understand why, but the girl with the sketchbook in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2 is apparently behind it somehow.

Anyway, the movie at the beginning of the game is incredibly impressive. Too pixelated to be PS2 quality, but I daresay it's easily Playstation 1. It flows smoothly and seemlessly. Great stuff.

EDIT: Oh, and I hear that if you beat the game, you get to play as Riku. Whoo-yay.

You know, I've been playing KH2 nonstop since teh boyfriend bought it for me Saturday night. I'm not the gaming type but I'm as addicted to this one as I was with the first one. Now, I seriously have no clue about some of the things you guys are talking about and I probably never will. All I can really say is that I'm enjoying the game just as much if not more so than the first one. *shrugs* I don't really see the point in picking it apart really. O.o;

whelp.... back to my PS2!!! ^-^ (heh, I just finished Jack Skeleton and am getting ready to start the PotC world... hehehe... Jack Sparrow!)

I finished the game last night. Holy crap the final boss fight was too long. I'm not entirely sure it was one boss in several forms or if it was like 3 different bosses. Probably my least favorite part of the game was the seemingly random "anti-form" drive in which Sora turns into a heartless.
