Custom Characters

Here's the setting: We've decided to integrate Custom Characters into the RPG. Here's your dilemna: We already have an established character base, and in a large majority of the cases, the person playing the established characters does not want to lose the character they've so handily crafted.

Each of you will create a lengthy and detailed rule page on what you believe would be the best way to incorporate a custom characters system into this site while keeping a few things in mind.

1 - The custom characters either have to be done so that the racial split does not upset the balance.

2 - The custom characters will not be able to affect the other members of the established universe or deny any of the "facts" created by our world.

3 - What penalties or bonuses would you allow someone starting with a custom character? What form of rules would you hold them under as far as character creation is concerned?

4 - How will this affect MIA? Would you abolish it (Custom Characters need no freeing really), would you lengthen the time, would you shorten it? This is not one where you just change it to how you like it, but instead only change it b/c it supports your product.

For this excercise, I'm looking for who will be able to impress me with the most innovative and yet thought provoking of answers. I want to see something that actually makes me think "Holy shit, that's the perfect answer." We've seen many various answers to these questions, and frankly, I've never been impressed with any of them.

This will be a very difficult task for you, as I have no idea what I will like, but a very good idea of what I won't like. You may extend this, if you wish, to small modifications of other parts of CDBZ such as equipment or racial abilities or even add a new system to here, as long as its entire role is in support of the primary goal: custom character rules.

This will give you an idea of what its like to create a small update that actually ends up causing other minor "patch" like changes in order to fit it in. What normally is a seemingly small task ends up being more than you'd think, in the end.

Oh, to make this even more difficult: You are to PM me your drafts of this information. I will allow each of you two drafts from which I'll respond with my various opinions or critiques on them, suggestions on direction or straight out hatred, and then you'll get the third and final chance to impress me with posting the finished product directly onto the board.

Congragulations to Goku Jr for finishing his Final Draft. I'm a little surprised that he skipped draft two and went from one to the final, but I don't really think that will affect him much unless I find the final to be lacking.

To the rest: As of the moment, there is no set final date, however, the common sense rule will apply as far as "Oh god this is taking forever"

Can I use the custom character projecty thing we did in HF's group last round for points of reference?

I have no problem with that. To be quite honest, after I saw what tasks everyone had put up for Week One, that's when I decided on what my task was going to be. I had no idea that later on in the week HF had added that task. So in hindsight, I possibly shouldn't have done my task and changed it. However, I'm still doing it, and I may be looking at things differently from HF, so what he likes may not pass for what I like and vice versa. That's another thing to staff, finding the road multiple people find as decent.

One more question,

The custom characters will not be able to affect the other members of the established universe

Can you define that a little more? Hopefully it isn't as acute as I believe it to be, because I am taking it as that customs won't be able to add onto any sort of history of the game, or to any of the generic players. Such as, a custom gets with a generic character (for instance, a custom Saiyan named, oh, Bob, gets with generic character Launch, they have a kid) Launch is a regular player. If Bob decides to quit, will that still affect Launch because of that bond? or, what?

It would still affect them in character, yes.

That's a story we build here. What I mean by this, and I clarify, is that you may not, under any circumstance, be someone's long lost brother or son or whatever. Obviously there will be a few exceptions, such as in the event of two friends agreeing to work the story out that way, but I'd hate to see another Torgeta join, informing Vejita that he is the son of Pan and Trunks, especially when Pan and Trunks look at each other going "wtf? This never happened" and this Torgeta guy expects everyone to just warp their history to fit it in.

I just read over it, however, I'm going to postpone responding to it for the moment, to turn some things over in my head before I really give any opinions one way or the other. Beings that there is current due date, and I don't plan to randomly screw someone by saying suddenly "You all have till three hours from now" knowing people work, there shouldn't be a problem.
