?You?ll wish you could stay longer?

Overview:

Welcome to Derbyshire, the shopping Roleplaying Game.

This RPG is based upon the brilliant shopping malls of Derbyshire, UK. You can create your own character and explored hundreds upon hundreds of different scenarios as you explore the inners and outers of the exciting aspect of shopping. This is a writing community/game, so if you love to write and shop, this is definitely your kind of place.

Here you?ll be able to, get yourself a job and earn money though different tasks, both staff given and manager given. You can buy a house, purchase clothing, buy a car, and even get your hair cut for that ?special occasion?.

As you roleplay during this your stay, think about the game, ?The Sims? and ?Animal Crossing.? You?ll have to do certain tasks and each individual move will affect the outcome in various ways. Anything can happen, from death, to child birth, and everything in between, so be careful and think your actions out carefully, or your character could take a turn for the worse. And if it does end up going that way, never fear, you?ll still be able to turn your character around depending on your actions.

Just remember to have fun and enjoy your stay.

The RPG Information

Here are the general rules and information for Derbyshire. If you have any questions about these rules, or any other questions about something you could not find in the rules and information below, then ask staff when you join. The information is liable to change without notification.

Rules:
  • In a nut shell, whatever Staff says, is final. Don't argue; just do as instructed by Staff. If you feel that Staff is being particularly unfair, then post your complaint in the Discussion board stating what Staff is not doing correctly and they will address it as best they can. Just remember to do it in a respectful and dignified manor.

  • No OOC (Out of Character) writing inside the IC (In Character) boards, unless clearly stating so at the bottom of a post. OOC writing inside the IC boards must be accompanied by a post and must be kept short, if its not you will be warned.

  • No Spamming the IC or OOC boards, if you do you will be warned.

  • NO PORN PERIOD. If you do post porn, you will be banned instantly.

  • No Flaming. Joking around is encouraged, but there is a fine line between joking and flaming. Joking is a laugh in which both parties making the joke and the party being joked on are both okay with the friendly laugh. Flaming is an attack in which the party flaming says something bad about the party being flamed. A warning will come from Flaming.

Information:

Choosing Characters
When selecting/creating your characters, it is in your best interest to include as much detailed information upon joining as possible. Not only will this give the staff a better understanding of where you plan to take your character, but it?ll also give the other members a better understanding of your character for interactions.

A few good examples of what do give would be, age, hair color, eye color, size, weight, clothing, skin tone, and attitude towards different situations.

~-~Character Styles ~-~
Different character styles will bring you to different impasses, however, you will not be able to start out as one of them, but with enough rp?ing in the right direction, you?ll be allowed to take various turns, here are a few examples of where your character can go.
- Police officer, Thief, store owner, MVC(most valuable Customer).

~-~ Items ~-~
The RPG mainly revolves around shopping, so without a doubt, there shall be different/various items that you?ll be able to purchase, all of which will help to increase certain stats that?ll allow you to earn more money and haggle prices down even further than the norm.

(note: the item list will expand as the rpg grows)

~-~ Jobs ~-~
To apply for a job to earn money, contact one of the store owners and wait for staff approval. Once approved, you?ll be given a task to complete, complete it and you?ll earn the job. This is one way to earn GIL quickly.

~-~ Death ~-~
If you are killed, you don?t actually die. Instead, you?ll be stripped of all GIL to pay for doctor?s fees. During your stay at the hospital, you can shop at the gift shop in the hospital, if you?re at the right level, (level 7). When killed you stay in the hospital for 1 OOC week(7 days).

~-~ Jail ~-~
If you are placed in jail, you?ll be stuck in jail for 2 weeks, (14 days ooc). During this time you can?t shop at the normal shops, but you can still purchase items from other inmates. Once released, you?ll lose all your Thief items(if you have any), and all Gil.

~-~ Techniques ~-~
So you?re probably thinking, ?techniques in a shopping rpg!?!?. Well, you?d be correct. There are a few techniques within the game that?ll allow you to do/earn things much quicker than normal, it?ll also allow you to reach further into the game to do more than ?just shop?.

~-~ Schools ~-~
After purchasing a ?school uniform?, you?ll be able to attend school, which will guide your towards your path towards Thief training, security training, or store ownership, plus more!

~-~ Spirit Levels, shopping levels, and Stats ~-~
Spirit levels are, in essence, you?re strength as a person as a whole. The higher the spirit level, the better the shopping level, the better the chances of earning techniques, jobs, and different items along the way.. Here is a list of all stats:

~-~ Physical Stats ~-~
Strength - determines how many items you can carry.
Speed - determines how fast your character is.
Stamina - determines how much endurance your character has.

~-~ Mental Stats ~-~
Intelligence - determines how smart your character is.
Luck - determines how lucky your character is.
Determination - determines how determined your character is at accomplishing his goals.
Charisma ? determines how much people like you.

~-~ Shopping Levels ~-~
Each shopping level is determined by your Mental Stats added together and each level is 50 Points.

Example:

Intell: 10
Luck: 25
Det: 6
Charisma: 30

Total points: 71
Shopping Level: 2

Example 2:

Intell: 40
Luck: 100
Det: 57
Charisma: 60

Total points: 257
Shopping level: 5

~-~ Mental Stat Point Bonuses ~-~
When you add points to your physical stats it directly increases your Energy Level, so what good are mental stats? In order to balance the importance of physical and mental stats we have provided bonuses for certain amounts of mental stat points.
  • Every set of 100 intelligence you receive a new shopping list level.
  • Every set of 50 Luck you will receive 50 more Gil per week.
  • Every set of 100 Determination you receive 1 TP added to your weekly spirit training.
  • Every set of 100 Charisma you receive one groupie.

~-~ Training ~-~
Training will be held every Sunday in the forums. In order to receive your allotment of TPs and GIL for the week you must Role Play at least once that week. You will start with 9 TP which can be allotted into the various stats for level increases.

~-~ Money ~-~
Gil is what the RPG uses as currency. You will begin with 500 Gil and you will earn 50 Gil per week.

The Techniques

~-~ Haggle ~-~
A very basic technique that is easily learned though vast experience of shopping. This tech allows you to lower the price of items by a certain amount of gil per level.

Level 1 - (-25%), Requirements: Shopping Level 5.
Level 2 - (-33%), Requirements: Shopping Level 12.
Level 3 ? (-50%), Requirements: Shopping Level 25.
Level 4 ? (-80%), Requirements, Shopping Level 40.

~-~ Time slow ~-~
Not going to have time to finish work and shop? This is the technique for you. Harnessing the powers of space and time, you?ll be able to literally slow time down so you can continue working, get done faster than normal, and still be able to make that clearance sale. This is also useful if there is a low amount of items remaining and you want something, but someone is about to get their hands on it.

~-~ Pick Pocket ~-~
Not all shoppers are the kinds that pay for what they get. If you?re more into the art of five finger discounts, this is the technique for you. Depending on your level, you?ll be able to pocket the bigger items.

Level 1 ? 1-5 lbs, Requirements: 25 strength, 25 speed, 25 Luck.
Level 2 ? 6-10 lbs, Requirements: 40 Strength, 45 Speed, 50 luck.
Level 3 ? 11 ? 20 lbs, Requirements: 80 Strength, 110 Speed, 90 luck.
Level 4 ? 21 - ??? lbs, Requirements: 150 Strength, 200 Speed, 210 luck.

The Special Items

The special Items are unique things that?ll allow members to reach further into the game after passing a certain feat or pending character style.

~-~ Photo ID ~-~
Some items require you to be of a certain age 30, upon reaching that age you?ll automatically be given a photo ID, however, if you are not of age, don?t fear, there are ways to earn either a fake ID(for thieves), or a real ID(for a level 10 shopping level).

~-~ Backstock ~-~
Some members will have a longer list of items that they?ll be able to sell and purchase once they are handed the keys to their store and become store owners.

~-~ MVC Card ~-~
Some members, once they reach a certain shopping level, will be up for a MVC Card, or a most valuable customer card, which will offer bigger/longer discounts at various stores, pending on the month.

The Stores and Their Items

Since you only start out as a Level 1 Shopper, you?ll start with limited stores and items.

Stilton On Rye

The taste of a new world.

Main Page

Welcome to Stilton on Rye. This RPG is based on a simple idea. You are the owner of a retro restaurant in a distant future. The only things you serve here are natural things, bread, made of rye, cheese, stilton, or other types, and other foods. In this high-tech world, everyone eats very little as a result of genetic experiments, so you only sell sandwiches made from stilton cheese spread on rye bread. In the next pages you will learn how to manage your restaurant using a play-by-post mode to do it.

The point of the game is to gain as much money as possible, spending it as efficiently as possible.

Rules/Help

OOC Rules

1. What staff says, goes. Should you think a mod or admin is being unfair, post in the OOC Area, saying your complaint. They will try to be as fair about it as possible.
2. No complete OOC Posts in the IC Area. If you wish to make a comment, add a line or two at the end of your post with an OOC: tag at the start. Complete OOC Posts are warned.
3. No flaming is allowed. If any thread goes from jokes to flaming, it is closed and the flame-baiter, or flamer is warned.
4. No Porn?whatsoever. If you don?t know if your image is classified as porn, talk to an admin in a PM and ask him if it is okay.
5. Quite the clich?, but ?Have Fun RPing here!?

Starting Out

You start out with one restaurant, with one table, one cow, one cheese-making machine, one patch of rye, and one robot chef that will make the bread and the sandwiches. You will also start with 10 000 dollars which you can spend to increase the efficiency of your restaurant.

As often as possible, you will RP having a customer. There is a limit to how many customers you can RP a week. This makes the furniture upgrades valuable, more furniture, more customers. However, if you do not RP all of them in one week, you will lose money proportional to the amount staff thinks he would have given you. (Staff posts about this.)

You will show him to a table, and you must have a discussion. In these high-tech times, almost surely, the customer you will be interested in ?the old times?, or else he would have picked a normal restaurant. The RP itself won?t be so long, because there isn?t much to say. Then, staff will come in as the customer, and ask questions about how the food is made, the old times, or something not really related. It will be either about our current time or about even before, in the Middle Ages.

Depending on your answers, staff will give the money you deserve. If you give extremely detailed responses, you might get bigger rewards. Do not look on other sites, if you don?t know what it is, just say it. We can?t stop our members from doing that, but it is your problem. If you cheat, it won?t be as satisfactory to gain money. Also no links and no copy/paste?s from other sites. It must be a completely original answer, preferably long as well, one or more paragraphs.

Every member gets his own forum; at least until the member count is too much.

Competition

Of course, what joy is there in a multi-player online RPG without contact? You are able to go into one of your competitor?s restaurant, and try to do what you want. You can sabotage, look at their techniques to answer customers, steal furniture, plant evidence for the Sanitation Department, etc.

All of the above and more can be done via an RP in a competitor?s forum. You post trying to do what you came for. Ending the post for example with a: ?He tried to place the smoke bombs on the ground slowly, looking in every direction?Would he make it without being caught?? type of sentence.

At that moment, staff will come in and post whether it succeeded. If it succeeded, staff posts how much money it costs him to repair/pay a debt/pay a fine. The longer, and better quality the post, the bigger the costs. However, should your actions failed, you might end up paying a fine. Staff will tell your competitor that you either have to let him go, or to RP the punishment. If you go for a fine, it can be how much you like, up to five thousand dollars ( 5000 ). This is without contradicting items, bribes and such, which will reduce the fine.

Special Upgrades

These are upgrades given for extraordinary RPing. If at any time, staff decides you don?t live up to this ranking any more, it is immediately retracted.

High-Put Friends - You have gained advantages by gaining friends in high places. This saves you the trouble of being caught by a competitor, or being the target of a hoax. Any fines you have to pay will be split in half and you pay only 50%.

?Special? Uncle - Seems your uncle has been hired as a DA. He can get you off the hook, should you find yourself face-to-face to a fine. This time, you don?t have to pay the fine at all, but this has a limited number of uses a month, staff will specify how many you have left in your roster.

Special Recommendations - So, your high-society friends have decided to help you out. At any party they go, every new person they meet, they recommend your restaurant. This causes your customers to be generous, most likely rich. 50% more at every money gained.

Furniture And Items

Need a new table, some more chairs, or a fancy chandelier? Here you are able to buy furniture for your restaurant, which will increase your customer count, you money gains, etc. Remember, the value of a dollar is different than in our times.

Standard Retro Table - Buying this normal, two-seated table, will increase your customer count by one.
Cost - 1,000 Dollars
Gain - +1 Customer Count

4-Seater Retro Table - Buying this bigger, 4 seated table, will increase you customer count by two. Also, it will gain you a +500 dollar benefit every two customers. This makes up for the higher price.

Cost - 8,000 Dollars
Requirements - Ye Old Round Table and Chandelier, Customer Count greater than 5.
Gain - +2,000 Dollars per Customer.

Ye Old Cheese Maker - This old machine is the same to the one you start with. It requires one cow to work with, and will manage to produce mediocre stilton cheese. It will increase revenue by 500 per Customer.

Cheese Maker 6000 - Replacing your old cheese-making machine will surely increase your revenue. This new machine can impress your customers not only through the excellent cheese it makes, but it can also answer questions when not busy.
Cost - 5,000 Dollars
Requirements - 2 Extra cows per Machine
Gain - +1,000 Dollars per Customer, You may skip one question a week.

Cheese Maker 10000 - This state-of-the-art machine will manage to make the best cheese around, increasing your revenue. Also, it can be programmed to do two things as well. If you don?t know the answer to a question, it can answer for you. And, it replaces the cows you need to make the milk.
Cost - 12,000 Dollars
Gain - +2,000 Dollars per Customer, You may skip one question per customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this site?

This is an RPG, based around a fictional galaxy and a fictional plant: Jamba, a planet populated by ham.

What is an RPG?

An RPG is a roleplaying game. A roleplaying game is a game in which you take on the role of a character and play through their lives. In a roleplaying game, you can also interact with other players.

How do I sign up?

To sign up, all you have to do is follow the simple instructions on the joining page.

Do I have to download anything?

No, you don?t. Unlike the RPGs you see out their today on the video game market, we go by roleplaying format. This isn?t like a video game. All you have is forums to play with.

If it doesn?t work like a video game, then how do I play?

You play by using roleplays to carry out your character?s life. From there, you can write to earn things throughout your travels, and experience things all around the world, and much more.

How do I roleplay?

You write posts in novel form and post them in the roleplaying section. Please use third person and past tense only. NOTE: You cannot do this until you are accepted.

I can?t write. Is there any other way I can play?

No.

Will there be more content added?

Yes. In the future.

Can you die in this RPG?

Ham is meat from a dead creature (the thigh/buttocks of a dead creature, to be exact. Commonly pork). You can?t die when you are already dead. So, no.

No one has replied in my join post!

Be patient. We all have lives.

Joining

To join Jamba is a very simple process. All you have to do it go to our forums, go to the joining section, and proceed to make a thread containing the following information. After that, all you have to do is wait for staff confirmation, and when they tell you to register, you are finally accepted.

This is what your join form should look like:

Name:
Preparation:
Style:
Shape :
Roleplay Example:

Name is, of course, your character?s name. You may use whatever you like here, as long as it is appropriate for people under the age of 18. Remember: this is your only chance to pick a name. You can, however, have nicknames and such later on. This is your only chance to pick a main name, though, so think it over.

Preparation is the amount of time you?ve been ?cooked.? This goes by common terms like ?raw.? For more information on what this actually does, see ?Preparations/Cooking Styles.?

Style is the type of ham you actually are. Similar to race, in a way. This includes smoked, honey-glazed, and etc. For more information on what this actually does, see ?Preparations/Cooking Styles.?

Shape is your general shape/form.

Roleplaying Example is exactly what it says. It is your roleplaying example. This is just to prove you can roleplay well enough to join. We aren?t very restricting here, as you only have to do 150 words in third-person and past tense form. It?s pretty easy to do. If you can?t do that, we?d be happy to help you out.

Our World

Jamba is a strange planet located in the far away galaxy of Hambo. It is an extremely small planet compared to all others in the area. Some have even compared it to the smallest planets in the universe. There is some thing else that makes Jamba well known, however. That is that is the only world made out of meat.

The planet is made of ham, to be specific, and is shaped into a small square shape. Similar to the pieces of meat you see in typical dog and/or cat food. This world is covered with forests made of mould, lakes of pure meat juice, deserts of endless spice, and everything you would ever see on a piece of ham. Just in ?worldly? form. Basically, it?s like a living meal, always changing.

Jamba is inhabited by, of course, ham people. They come in all shapes and sizes, such as legs of ham, slices, and so on. Whatever you wish. That depends on you, as you are a part of that group. There all sorts of types of ham to choose from, ways to be cooked, and other things, as you will learn elsewhere.

There are ?lesser races,? of course. And they will be out there. Look out for them, as they will be throughout your quests and sagas.

Stats

This is the stat sheet that will appear on the forum roster when you first join this RPG. It includes all stats. You will be able to increase all of these stats later on. The time for this is every two weeks on Saturday, in which you will be given twenty points to increase your stats with.

General Stat Sheet/Roster:

Name: Generic
Preparation: Random
Style: Random

Pineapple Pieces: 500

Star Rating: 300,000

Juiciness: 50
Toughness: 50
Sweetness: 50
Spiciness: 50
Flavour: 50
Size: 50

NOTE : There are no mental stats. You get 50 pineapple every training. You get the same amount of points. See techniques for moves.

Preparations/Cooking Styles

Preparations

Preparations are the amount of time you?ve been ?cooked.? This goes by common terms which include raw, rare, medium-rare, medium, well-done, and overdone. The way preparations work is that it increases or decreases two stats. These stats are ?toughness? and ?juiciness.? It, in no way, gives you any advantage other than the fact that juiciness is an offensive stat and toughness is a defensive stat. They do not add to your ?star rating? at all.

Preparations, however, are a neat way to add uniqueness to your character. The following are the bonuses/penalties for each preparation.

Raw:

Juiciness = +7
Toughness = -7

Rare:

Juiciness = +5
Toughness = -5

Medium-Rare:

Juiciness = +3
Toughness = -3

Medium:

Juiciness = -3
Toughness = +3

Well-Done

Juiciness = -5
Toughness = +5

Overdone

Juiciness = -7
Toughness = +7

Cooking Styles

Cooking Styles are basically different types of recipes when it comes to ham. There are four in total, and each, just like the preparations, have their own bonuses. These bonuses, again like the preparations, don?t give an advantage.

Cooking styles include honey-glazed, salted, dried, and smoked ham. The bonuses for each are listed:

Honey-Glazed:

Sweetness = +5
Spiciness = -5

Salted:

Spiciness = +5
Size = -5

Dried:

Flavour = +5
Toughness = -5

Smoked:

Flavour = +5
Juiciness = -5

Items

Hams are surprisingly advanced for pieces of meat. The following items are available at any store.

Meat Cannon: A cannon used to fire lesser meats. Plus 5 to Juiciness.
Pineapple Pieces: 1000

Deluxe Meat Cannon: A deluxe cannon used to fire lesser meats. That obviously makes it better. Plus 10 to Juiciness.
Pineapple Pieces: 2500

Food Hose: It is said this was used by the elderly on other words to live. On Jamba however, whoever carries this is a formidable enemy. Plus 15 to all stats.
Pineapple Pieces: 5000

Cheese Armour: A weak armour made of cheese. Plus 3 to Toughness.
Pineapple Pieces: 800

Spicy Armour: A vast upgrade to cheese armour, this one is made of hard spice. Also quite tasty. Plus 10 to Toughness.
Pineapple Pieces: 2300

Armour of Jamba: An armour made out of Jamba, the very planet on which you stand. Plus 12 to all stats.
Pineapple Pieces: 4000

Leg of Ham: The corpse of one of your fallen brothers. Plus 2 to all stats.
Pineapple Pieces: 1500

Power-ups/Techniques

Power-ups

Power-ups are things you can earn in sagas that can increase your stats by a certain multiplier (for example, times five). Please note that these can only be earned in sagas through top-notch roleplaying. The definition of ?top-notch? is to be decided by the staff member who is running that saga. Do not complain if you didn?t get any power-ups in a saga. Just try harder next time.

All power-ups are permament. If/when you get another power-up, you will be divided by the previous power-up and then multiplied by your new power-up. In the event that the stats end up in halves, it will round up.

Each race goes by the same power-up system. However, you are not limited to a description. You can get sprinkled with some spice, or become the Haminator. It doesn?t really matter. Be creative.

Also note that power-ups will be harder to achieve each time, even if they may seem to have equal requirements here.

The following are the levels of power-ups:

Power-up Level 1
Multiplier: x5
Requirements: Exceptional Roleplaying (through the eyes of the judge)

Power-up Level 2
Multiplier: x15
Requirements: Exceptional Roleplaying (through the eyes of the judge), a trigger

Power-up Level 3
Multiplier: x30
Requirements: Exceptional Roleplaying (through the eyes of the judge), a trigger

Techniques

There are no definite techniques on this site. They are created for you, and only given out for exceptional roleplaying (saga or otherwise). If you are given a ?technique,? you will create one and submit it for judgment by staff. If accepted, you will receive the technique.
