Best Guitarist?

Whos the best Gutarist? I always have this argument with my friends and want to know who you think is the best from the past and the present

Past- Jimi Hendrix

Present- Zack de la Rocha ( Rage Against The Machine)

Zach de la Rocha was the singer. Tom Morello was the guitarist.

Anyway, I'd have to agree with you there on both, only subbing Zack with Tom.

Really? I`m pretty sure Zack was the guitarist.

Im pretty sure you're wrong.

I would have to go with Jimmy Page as one of the best.

Him or Eric Clapton.

Kim Thayil from Soundgarden or Eddie Van Halen, too.

this is simple: Stevie Ray Vaughan

If you don't know who he is, you don't get an opinion on the subject :-P

Vaughn was good on a scale with blues, in that he excelled exponentially but if you're looking for speed and accuracy then you need to turn to Michael Angelo Batio.

He may have been heavy metal though he's hailed as practically the fastest guitarist in the world. Speaking of Tom Morello, Batio actually taught him while in college. Also managed to invent and successfully play the quad guitar. Booyah.

I'm a huge fan of a Gary Moore song called "Still Got the Blues" it has quite possibly the greatest guitar solo ever.

As much as a love Clapton, I'd have to say Hendrix is the greatest of all time. Clapton went with Pau lMcCartney (I believe...it was one of the Beatles) to see Hendrix play. Clapton said "He's going to put us out of business."

As for the best guitar player running around today, it's really hard to say. Eddie Van Halen is still playing, Tom Morello, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, BB King, Carlos Santana and countless others across many many genres.

The best technical guitarist is probable Joe Satriani, it seems like you couldn't put something infront of him he couldn't play but a good blues guitarist will sound more interesting and emotional then Satriani's stuff any day. Not to knock him at all, he just doesn't quite have the heart wrenching power of the blues behind him.

I know I've missed countless others along the way. Ted Nugent and Zakk Wylde are two more.

That'd be Daron Malakian, Celipa.

I'd have to agree, but I haven't been exposed in completeness to older, more legendary guitarists...so don't get me wrong.

EDIT: Actually Serj might've been the guitarist in that song, I can't remember.

EDIT2: Jimmy Page ftw btw

What song?

Depends on what type of music. I mean stuff like Jimmy Paige or something like Joe Satriani.

I especially enjoy Buckethead. He impressed me a lot because he can move all his fingers as fast as his alternate picking. It's insane speed and he made some random ass shit that is just off the wall but still amazing.

Eddie Van Halen - Eruption. AMAZING.

Al De Meola has a song called "Race with the devil on a Spanish Highway" and it's quite possibly one of the coolest things I have ever heard.

Jimi Hendrix is the best ever. Nobody, past or present, can do it any better.

Presently, Jake Shimabukuro is god. It's ukele, but who cares. Still better than any guitarist this side of counterculture.

I'd probably have to go with Tom Morello, too. Which is surprising, 'cause I'm not actually a huge Rage fan. (They're good, I'm not saying they suck, shut up)

I also think Dan Donegan is absolutely fantastic.

Hendrix doesn't count. Everyone knows he'll rock your face off. It's common knowledge. Tongue

I've seen it before. I never thought I would rock out to a ukelele, but I did.
