CoH/CoV Questions

KB, what does your character look like, I will make my character look just like yours.

I don't really have a character on Justice yet, but here's my main from Virtue:

The other side of his cape is black with a neon green Tribal pattern on it.

Double post ftw.

Still working on a character concept. I have a few. There's the giant robot thing (which really looks more like a dude in a suit), I was trying to go for a 'Gundam' like feel for it, some sort of scrapper.

There's the little girl concept, since I've played typically big hulking dudes, and seeing a kid doing martial arts/super strength would be funny.

There's an 'old skool' blaster named "Power Line" (might not be taken) with a classic sort of superhero costume and look.

There's always the option of remaking Forehead on Justice, but it's one of those things where you're like 'aw man not *again*', maybe.

I guess a CoX question would be: what do we need? Anything? Should I just create whatever the Hell I feel like?

Do I buy it in the store? How much is it? How much is it monthly?

You can buy everything online if you want from plaync.com I believe.

Someone said monthly is like $15

Heroes alone should be like $20 USD, no idea what the Heroes Versus Villians pack costs.

The CompUSA by Raditsu's house was selling villians for like $5, we should've bought like 5 of 'em and sold them for more.

Monthly fee for CoX is $14.99. If you only have heroes, it's $14.99. If you have villians, it's $14.99. If you have both, it's $14.99.

The end.

If someone wants a copy of CoV I'll go buy it from the CompUSA this weekend and just AIM/PM you the official code. Like Waff said, they were $5.

Like CJ said, you can buy all the codes online if you want, or you can buy the boxed versions at a store. I'm pretty sure the "Good Versus Evil Edition" (was only released a couple of weeks ago) is only $30 and its, by far, the best deal.

Personally, KB, I love the "old school" look for this game. It just fits the whole "we mostly take ourselves seriously" feel of the game. My main is an Ice/Ice Tanker that's actually a fairly small female. The idea of, what amounts to, this little girl standing in the middle of a gigantic mob and just kind of dancing around amusing me everytime I go herding.

We don't really need anything, but we'll take whatever we can get. At the low levels it mostly doesn't matter what your AT is. In the mid levels a tank or scrapper would be amazing, and when you get to the high levels you're amazing no matter what you do. We'll work with whatever you make. Just, for the love of god, don't make an Invlun/SS Tanker.

There isn't a shortage of the class that plays aggro control? Not sure how CoH defines this class, but it would be like the Enchanter of EQ or Bard of DAoC.

I haven't played either EQ or DAoC, so I can't really say. There are two (three kind of) ways of managing aggro in CoH.

Tankers (my main is one such) get the inherent power "Gauntlet." And really, that inherent makes the class what it is. Everytime a Tanker hits an enemy, Gauntlet generates aggro against that enemy and up to four other nearby enemies. This means that bad guys like hitting Tankers. A lot. To add on to this, all but one of the Tanker primary pools gets a power that does periodic damage to all enemies around you (powers that have an area of effect centered on your character are called PBAoE). This means that Gauntlet is triggered each time an enemy is just standing near you. Makes it really easy to piss off all of the bad guys. Additionally, all Tankers have access to the "Taunt" power. It automatically draws the aggro of the target and up to four nearby enemies as well, without requiring any kind of accuracy check; its a garaunteed aggro at a decent range.

The other class for aggro management is the Controller. Controllers gets a set of very potent status effecting powers (a status effect is referred to as a "mez"). These range from forcing an entire group of enemies to stand still, to holding enemies completely inable to take any sort of action, or every confusing enemies into attacking one another. This style of aggro management is a lot trickier to play than a Tanker because of the fact that Controller have neither a great deal of hit points, nor any real form of defense. If you're not paying attention, and a group of enemies breaks out of one of your mezzes, its usually all over. That said, its a hell of a lot of fun to wave your hand and encase an entire group of enemies in rocks, or drop illusionary decoys into a mob. When you're first getting into the game, you'll probably be a pretty shitty controller, but once you've played for a bit and know which enemies to hold, which ones just immobilize, and what you can just not really worry about, you'll have a lot more fun with the class.

For their secondary powers, Controllers also get buffs, debuffs, and heals. A controller who really knows what they're doing can single handedly support an entire team by healing, ressurecting, buffing, and throwing around mezzes. Very useful classes.

Sometimes Scrappers can serve as makeshift Tankers, but they lack the Gauntlet and Taunt powers that really let a Tanker tank.

The third way of aggro control, and I say this somewhat hesitantly, is to simply kill everything before it attacks. This may sound stupid, but you can make a team with enough damage output that everything would be dead before a tanker could gather aggro or a controller could lay down some mez. In fact, I was playing on a team earlier that was a tanker (me) and five other blasters (blasters are high-damage, ranged nukes). I would leap into a mob, take the initial volley of enemy fire, and then everything would be dead. Half the time I wouldn't even be able to throw a punch. It was craziness.

Just for the heck of it, here's my main:
Mara Sutra
Mara in her armor (sadly, I see this version far more than the other)

Sounds good.

Yes I'm familiar with mez, thats what they called it in EQ and DAoC but wasn't sure if that was the term used in CoH.

Its just that there are sooooo many bad Invuln/SS builds out there. I had no complaints with you last time we partied, so its not like I was attacking you directly. They're definitely high damage builds, they're mediocre tanks.

invuln shouldn't be a tank set. it's too hard to hold aggro with. i like it being a scrapper set though.

You shouldn't actually need to do that.

If you go to plaync.com and make a master account, you should be able to just put in the code that came with the game. Once the code is entered and activated you should get an option to download the City of Heroes client.

Once you have your account, enter your Manage Games menu and click on "Account Details." This should take you to another page with information about the games activated on your account. From there you just click on "Download game client" and you're good to go.

Banedor Warstalker
Controller
Magic and Empathy I picked I think.

Once I place an enchanment, can I replace it?

You can replace enhancements, but just know that the enhancement that was originally there is going to be gone forever.
