Yes, Aqua. We're reading them. And we're responding with reasons why we aren't following your suggested system. Sorry if that upsets you. =/

At the time I told you that, yeah, I felt like it would be pointless. However, I fully intend on wrapping things up with 18 if I do lose her, if I don't, no loss. Sure I'll lose all my years worth of stats, and abilities, and items, but I will have furthered my characters development. If I start over as a new character, then at least I got to finish what I planned with 18, or try to.
The thing here is that you focus on rewards rather than the satisfaction of writing. Not a lot of people are like that, but as Rad said, we can't please everyone.

Well krillin, a lot of people's replies were in regard to my stances last night and not on topic to my current posts. Therefore my frustration. But reijin seems to have it all worked out in his head where im coming from so I'm happy that at least someone gets what Im saying. from there, you guys can decide what to do with it, but no one (in their replies) indicated to me that they understood, fully, what i was suggesting.
EDIT: and from the recent replies, I'd say he's still the only one (and perhaps Burter).

I say you all do what you think will make the community grow and prosper and whatever seems to be the best for Chubbs, I would agree with. I trust staff over a person who's been here three or four months that complains because he loses a couple things. =\
Honestly, though, I think staff will work it out and things aren't even finalized with it all yet.
Good luck staff! ^_^

You're right Aqua. Since I don't agree with you, I must not understand what it is you're suggesting. Makes sense.

You keep your characters. - yep
After the PCIII rewards are given, you may convert to a custom character if you wish at the normal stat penalty for switching characters. - yep
New joinees will only be able to join as Customs from here out. - yep
Depending on your roleplaying activity from this point on, you will be given rewards on your new character by applying the reward system that we'll apply then to anything that happens from now till then as well, meaning that all roleplaying now will be just as effective as it will after. - yep
Unless im overlooking something (and i very well might be) i think that covers all the bases.
Thank you so much rei for keeping a level head and at least bringing this back to the matter at hand (not saying you agree with me, but at least you took the time to understand what i was saying).
EDIT: Tapion... I don't think you know where im coming from on this matter and im not going to take the time to explain as I already have in the previous pages of this thread... repeatedly.
Ok, so now that I've basically gotten the point of your suggestion...
I'm going to throw a couple of things out there, and I want to see your solution to those points while staying true to this vision.
- People like myself and Rad have been here for years, myself since day one. We've both earned an arsenal of techniques and we both have an insane amount of items. We can level planets. There is absolutely no competition for us, and in order to even allow us to enter into an event, the stats have to be completely overlooked. This obviously is why we feel stats need something done to them... So let's say Rad and I are extremely busy until this is done and are unable to roleplay. How would we be compensated?
- I was not involved in PCIII at all. I was, however, active during that saga, albeit in a different saga. Why would someone from PCIII get to start off anew and with an advantage over me just because I chose to enter a different saga?
- Staff are all going to be busy working on the new content and may not have enough time to competitively roleplay. I personally do not care, but some staffers do feel that their character is important enough that if they had to choose to leave their character to exclusively be a staffer, or have an extreme disadvantage as 'punishment' for being a staffer, they would quit immediately and try to simply be a character. What is to reward them for their efforts to bring this into light while being unable to roleplay?

The fact that so many of you still seem to think im arguing about losing a couple of things implies that you dont understand. Im done with this thread. I'll let staff get to work. Reijin understands as does Burter. Whether they use my suggestions remains to be seen, but at least I tried.
EDIT: ill reply to rei in a sec.

No, at least you CONTRIBUTED. It has nothing to do with "tried". That implies that the system is faulty and that your suggestion will fix it. That's your opinion. We still need to test it to see if that's the case or not.

Staffers, please stop arguing. We and him disagree here. So to avoid just inflaming one another, let's just all step back and draw a line on the ground.
I'm just going to try to work back and forth in an organized manner to get exactly what I can about the situation.

1. I thought that it seemed most people were against compensation. I myself have been swayed mostly that way. Therefore, my suggestion for these 4 months to count is within that context. So yeah, all stats would be reset for everyone, no compensation save for whatever you guys decide to do with the techniques (good luck with that btw...) and you give people the oppertunity to continue working towards something by applying the suggestion i mentioned above where from here on out, all finished threads (that would normally receive a boost or would under the new system) are saved some place until you guys determine the new stat system and upgrade system. Once we reset, you simply reward people for their RPing from today to the reset and go on from there.
2. Leave out the PCIII rewards. Now that you mention it, if we're not compensating for stats, there's no reason to add it. Though, i would say that all those pending updates ( including maybe PCIII if we were getting techs from that) that would have yielded techniques should be rewarded before the reset so (if you guys do allow members to keep some of their techs or all) the members will have their full range of techs to choose from. But if anything pending before now isn't yielding a tech... why bother? Just save work from here out.
3. I assume this is if we applied my suggestion. In which case, you could apply you ever-famous static reward to active staff. I for one have no problem with staff getting some sort of bonus for dealing with all of this shit. Or, you could always just try to talk them down :-P. But I wouldn't think that the staff here, writers that they are, would have a real problem getting their RPs out there. But as i said, I'm open to whatever there... static reward... reward given by admins to their subordinates... however you see fit really.
Does this make me seem less crazy OMG stats!!?

Old Tapion, I think you should maybe read the whole thread. It's clear from some of your replies that you don't fully understand this.
I can sympathise with you, Aqua, because I can see what's happening is very similar to what happened to myself a while back (with people replying without reading anything). That said, I think we should let staff work things out a bit before committing to any "rewards count from ... NOW" plans. I can see where you're coming from, and indeed, I'm wondering what the point of doing the Kai quests over the next four months is now. If there's a way of doing it fairly, I agree, but that in itself is going to take time to work out. It might be best to wait until the updates are further along and we know what's staying/going.
It would be nice for some past saga rewards to be carried over, but I feel the further you go back, the murkier things get. I'm hoping that this update will herald a new, more accurate rating system (like UGS =O), as part of this whole 'proactive' thing, and that will probably render a lot of the older saga rewards innaccurate/unfair. It's difficult to gauge when the cut-off point is, though, since there's much bias involved.

Ok, let's get to point three.
Not all staff are going to be as active as the members. Members might be insanely active during the next few months in hopes of gaining an edge by that system, and staffers would be busy doing this work regardless. Some staffers, like Bardock, competent writers by large, have issues that do not allow them to regularly be on the computer so a majority of the time they have to choose to either do something staff related, or roleplay, which usually equates to staff stuff first, catch up on all the posts on the board and updates second, then roleplay if you have time. It actually does take a few hours if you are only on in short bursts once a day or so.
Some staffers and members are still having some serious issues losing the old techs. We are considering a reimbursing system that will allow them to possibly gain something to rebuild with.
Of those suggested, I'd like to throw my suggestion out there to see your opinion on it. The ONLY reason I'm not throwing out the many other suggestions is because I don't know if those members want their stuff public yet. I have to actually paraphrase it a bit to avoid giving out some information that I don't believe we've mentioned yet.
"Let's take all the techs out there and assign a value number to them. All members who are still active by the time we do the reset will begin with a number bonus for their activity. Any new people will simply join without this bonus and build from there. A static bonus across the board for the former members that stayed active."
Amending that post I made in the staff forum, I followed up with this:
"Then allow these new members to buy any tech that they can afford using this number bonus they recieve. They then lose what they haven't spent. They may not be able to afford a tech they really want, but everyone would have equal opportunity to choose from any tech within that limit to keep balance while rewarding them with the access during character creation."
Now to amend it with what I'm reading currently...
Here's something I want your opinion on to see if this will cure your ills, and then after you post I would like to see member opinions on this.
NEW VERSION:
Quote:"Let's take all the techs out there and assign a value number to them. All members who are still active by the time we do the reset will begin with a number bonus based proportionally on their activity, using the new reward system to gauge this as if it had been implemented right now. All new joinees will be devoid of this bonus and will simply build their characters from there.
We then allow these new members to buy any tech on our list that they can afford using this number bonus they recieve. They may only choose one of these techs and it will be considered an innate trait that they may include into their character's creation, such as race or history. They then lose any points that have not been spent in this manner.
They may not be able to afford the exact tech that they wish, and powerups will be exempt from this list for balance reasons, but that depends solely on their activity from the starting date forward. Everyone will have begin the game at a level that is based on their activity to this point.
Staff members will begin with a number bonus to be chosen at a later time that will allow them to remain competitive with the members for their help in bringing this project to life.
Essentially, on a list of techs, how active you are from now until the reset will determine how powerful of a tech you may choose for your one starting tech to build your character on."
How does that sound to you?
(After Aqua replies, I will post saying if I am ready to hear other member responses to this, but for now, please let me get a feel from just Aqua)

It sounds wonderful so long as the numbers assigned for activity aren't static or capped. If they aren't I think you have yourself a wonderful compromise.

Ok, so if someone just finished earning Metal Binding last week, would you say that they are SOL and should just be as active as possible until the actual reset to allow them to start their new character with this?
This will allow members to start off like this:
"Julie the Magician - Human
Starting Power - Telekinesis
Description: Julie grew up in a circus. She learned a great deal of fighting styles from the performers in the circus, but her time around her former master, the great Impresso the Magician, she gained an affinity for telekinetic power, which allowed her to achieve a great mix of shock and awe amongst the crowds for her tricks.
Unfortunately, a crowd member entered the tent having strapped a bomb to themselves, and detonated it during one of their shows. Julie, having been at the hospital for a severe stomach virus, was the only survivor. Upon hearing the news, she vowed to increase her power and use her telekinesis and fighting styles to defeat any twisted being she found."
or
"Affliction - NonTransformer
Starting Power - Pyrokinesis
Description: A child that claims to have been born in the core of a star from an unknown being, he has arrived on Vejita in hopes of finding the strongest warriors available to express his feelings of anguish upon. His initial arrival to the planet resulted in a large wildfire spreading across a large portion of the forests, bringing out numerous low level Saiyans to defeat this flaming djinn."
The numbers would not be static nor capped, but simply based on how active you are.

I would say that staff seems pretty set about actually resetting. therefore, I would think that staff should only consider activity from this point forth. Continue to give tps, moves, etc to our current chars in the current system until you apply the reset so we have something to write with/ about until that time but yeah, do as you suggest and only apply the activity points to people's work from here out. I can't speak for others, but that's enough reason for me to keep writing and developing my character ^_^
