this has been stuck inside my head for weeks. i just hoped that it would escape. i suppose it finally did.
---
stars that blaze so brightly through your hair, a sparkle from the saturday sun. we twist between bedsheets, our love flows in rivers towards the earth. the sweet scent rising from every corner. my ghost rises in a stove's burner. you quietly cover the flame, soup for a sick lover.
the words were plain the subject overused, but every heart does beat and every writer dies a romantic. a backwards step into a book, the story where no one is ever wronged. this pictures that hide words.
words whispered by a glass, that fragile sense of touch. one more memory you'd rather forget. forgotten toys and torn pages in this journal. words never meant to be found. the callous ink dries quick, unforgiving. so unwilling to change, not unlike I. my delicate skin cracks in anticipation of your breath. the words i knew you could speak. "i've never loved you as i do in this moment, this careful collection of gazes, the sum of longing." my lungs breathed easy.
the words i spoke that day, burned into my tongue. "you could never take away my love of you. no selfish act will ever carve into my teeth." your hand snakes into mine. every move calculated with such reckless precision. such beautiful abandon.
you reach for your camera and spin the lens through all that we may become. color circles around your eye, searching for that perfect shot. our perfect life. your eye seeks to capture those simple vicissitudes in leaving.
kiss me once more and promise it will not be the last. "and i always keep a promise."
