Yeah, so I just heard on the news over here there's gonna be a LOTR musical hitting the WEst End over here. I dunno about any of you guys, but that sounds fucking stupid.
And then, I'm informed duely by my mate that their gonna do a bloody MMO of the damn thing to.
LOTR was a kick ass set of books and movies, doing anything more to them is murdering it.

Oh no he d'int!
I think we already have a LOTR musical here in America. I'm not sure, maybe it was just some skit on Late Night With Conan O'Brien.
I get TV and reality mixed up a lot.
[bad-poetry]Either way, SOUNDS GHEY![/oh-noetry]

An mmo...pushing it. A musical...well that's just too much. Someone must have a obssession with wizards and dwarfs and shit.
Let the LOTR franchise die out until thirty or fourty years then let someone else make a new movie or something.

I thought the MMO was a good idea. Just found out about it the other day.
And, actually, LOTR is a very high-brow work with classic dramatical themes. And Ian McKellin is a stage actor, so if he were to play Gandalf it would be pretty cool. I wouldn't go see it, but nevertheless, it would be successful.

The thing with the LOTR MMO has been know for a while now. But it still shows some promise, given it`s unique family tree system and use of realestate. It just really depends how the creators will use the idea.
Also, allthough there were cases of bad LOTR games (like Fellowship of the Ring for PC), Return of the King was actually very good. Both parts of Battle for Middle-Earth also weren`t too bad. So I think it`s a bit too early to judge.
But yeah, a musical is going too far. I don`t know why rights owners agreed with something like that.

The thing about big things like LOTR is that companies will whore the hell out of it. Its what happened to Space Jam, Power Rangers, Land Before Time, Matrix, several Disney movies, Pokemon, etc.
The companies will pretty much milk every bit of money they can out of it, then throw it away like an old prostitute who doesn't turn tricks anymore.

This was probably how investors felt when someone pitched to them the idea of a prologue to the Wizard of Oz. They laughed.
Then the idea became a hit play called Wicked and said investors got fucked. In the ass. Hard.

I was never that big a fan of LOTR. At the time of its release, it was probably fresh, but these days the ideas Tolkien laid out have been reused so many times by others that it seems old.
That, and I just thought the book dragged on too much. >_>
I doubt I'll play the MMO unless it's somehow better than every other fantasy-based MMORPG on the market.

Dragged on? Try Wheel of time. I'm on Crossroads of Twilight and OH GOD I needs some plot progression, yet I can't stop reading, please Jordan please.
