I personally think this is a spoof of DBZ, but some people have disagreed with me stating the storylines aren't similar enough.

The fighting is also majorly blown out of porportion, like DBZ.
The Chaos Emeralds could be like the Dragonballs, as well.

Sonic = Goku
Shadow = Vegeta
Mario = Gohan(I guess)
Luigi = Krillin
The Professor = Dr Briefs
Mecha Sonic= Every Major Villain rolled into One
Emeralds = Dragonballs
(I could go on, but I choose not to)
However, that does not take away from its undeniable awesome-atude.

I personally found these fights to be better, myself. As they worked in battle royals, and in DBZ if there was ever multiple people in fights, they either all teamed on one guy, got broken up, then beat one at a time (See Broly) or picked one opponent and it ended up being a one on one fight anyways (See Super 13 movie)

I always thought of Sonic as Future Trunks. I mean, the whole coming from a different existance from a capsule.
